That's not what makes a good interviewer. A good interviewer presses for truth and can get information from a story others can't due to their lines of questioning and tactics. Simply letting someone "tell an engaging story" is actually not an interview at all.

Kudos to him for making it through that. A few years back I did a trans-mongolian trip that had me go from beijing to ulaanbaatar and then all the way to Moscow. Getting a visa for Russia is crazy enough, they ask you all these personal questions about family members histories and military service, but going in through train meant that I had to go through some random border check point in the middle of nowhere. A stark realization came to me as the three stout and very unhappy border agents in long grey trenchcoats and uniforms, like something out of an 80s movie, rifled through our bags, backpacks and even the compartment above our closet. They pulled out chewing gum and sternly demanded explanations. It was 2 am, I was in the middle of siberia, and I could be arrested for literally anything and NO ONE would know where I was. I didn't have cell service, no internet, no phone, save for the sporadic few moments I managed service passing through larger cities. It was a tense moment, but still an exciting trip. Russia is Russia. It's not the West. It's a unique place with a unique set of rules and many in the west can't comprehend the experience.

However Afghanistan was part of the 43,000 mile bike trip in 2010-2014 and he said earlier in the conversation he didn’t have a phone with him on that trip, he said iPhones weren’t on the market when he left, and the cell phone he had on that trip he chucked in a river. I watched the whole show. For someone who traveld for months and then spend more time in a prison and just recently came back he had an extremly specific opinion on the russia ukraine conflict. In my opinion that was quite suspicious. If i open a random main stream news site i would read exactly what he told about the conflict, about putin, about the the Asov battalion are somehow not real nazis and so on. I am not taking sides in this conflict. But i have never heard something that sounded so much like a cyops operation to get the propaganda into the ears of people that usually not listening to main stream media.

Also telling he brings up Bucha which has been shown a Ukraine propaganda false flag. Amazing he has all the talking points of our corporate "mainstream" media

@@M1984FA Absolutly, i researched that Bucha thing even before it hit MSM. Pure false flag. Nothing made sense. Corpses left and right the street like you drove through with a lorry and just dumped the bodies left and right. And magically the corpses looked after two weeks like just killed two hours ago. Like there are no dogs, wolfes, rats, foxes, birds and so on in Bucha that would not immediatly start to eat them. Nothing dead lies outside without signs of animals feasted on it in the first night they can reach it. Town people do not know that, but when us country folks see a dead animal without bite wounds we know that died only hours ago.

A story isn't necessarily the truth. the idea that it is, is much of what plagues the chauvinistic western society today. It gives us murderous war among other things. Truth must be backed by proves. Evidence. Science. Not idealistic dreams and ideas. Not wishes. And not politically convenient stories told and too often made up to fit with one's or the listener's ideas, reality or narrative. It's deadly dangerous. One can preach but thats nothing to do with truth.

He forgot to mention 2 things 1 - he had a tourist visa, while for journalism you need to get a different kind of visa 2 - he's talking about April, news report that it was a second trial, and that there was one on March 20. So, apparently, he was warned and then continued to do things that are not exactly legal with his kind of visa.
