I can't believe I finally found this one, and I thought I've seen them all, but here is a brand new one, while still being an old one,❗️ "old seadog"..... icon‼️®™️ 👏👏👏 BRILLIANT❗️

Love the determination to get it all done, esp fixing that RayMarine unit, most wld have chucked it. Now every time you use it I'll bet you get that warm & fuzzy feeling 😄 kinda like rescuing a stray dog from the animal shelter ☺️👍🏼

Never judge a book by its cover, especially an engine. For the most part, it's what's on the inside that'll make all the difference.

Really liked this one. You're on track to being an engineer and a mechanic! Great piece about the life raft, too.

I loved how cynical the guy testing your raft was about some of the items in it.. pure gold! A tip: When you're getting a life raft serviced/tested, if you ask, they can usually include some small items supplied by you to go inside it, with the rest of the raft kit. For example, some old spare glasses, in case you don't think/have time to grab yours before abandoning ship. (But there *should* be spare glasses in your ditch-bag anyway, right?)

Hey, I I like your series so far. Bit of advice regarding the sea water pump. Most pumps , including ''tis one will leak first through telltale holes to let you know the seals protecting crankcase from sea water intrusion. I periodically check for water dripping out as that's when you need to replace seals. If water gets in, it will make it into the oil and cylinder. Perhaps that was the source of the smoke. Water as it's compressed will generate some damage, smoke and loss of compression. Fair winds and see you out there. Cheers from Canada

Great video Barry with a cliff hanger too.😀 Was it just a loose connector on the plotter screen? Well done with that anyway.👍I noticed on the replacement water pump that there were a few screws missing from the pump end plate - did you sort that? Are you going to refurb the old one - a bit of shot blasting, paint and a new mechanical seal and you will be good to go. Thanks for all your hard work and sharing a well crafted video.😀

you are a f***ing genius keep going I enjoy your video's I wish there was a a table of contents so I could follow vids in line.
@AfricanFlightStar5 жыл бұрын
Phil Rusciano There is - just go to his channel, click the 'Videos' tab, then sort by oldest first. It will list all the videos in date order. Nice thing about Barry is that he always puts the Episode Number on every video, so it's easy to follow in the proper sequence. Most other sailing channels don't do this. Another Old Seadog advantage 😄

About engines being clean: sometimes that's an indication of good maintenance. However, the engine being clean on the outside only means it is clean on the outside. It means nothing about its mechanical condition inside. Clean outside can be hiding problems inside.

You have mostly slime on the bottom, but be careful! If you end up having barnacles you can get some nasty cuts from them!! They are slow to heal. rinse with vinegar, follower by an anti biotic. I never do a scrubbing without gloves.

Re: Fluid for refilling a compass I had to refill an autometer procomp liquid filled gauge a few years ago. Took a whole lot of research, but it ended up being a $3 bottle of glycerin from the drugstore. I know it's not the same thing, but maybe it helps.

@@AdventuresofanoldSeadog You said it was burning oil and that doesn't fix itself...(diesel mechanic) Just interested. Glad to see you've got a proper diesel; not one of those clattery Yanmars....

I recall you mentioning blue smoke while motoring, and that usually means engine sump oil getting into the combustion chamber (I'm a gas engine mechanic, mind you). Also, in the diving footage, Shadow's bottom appears to be blue...was that shot before last video's haul-out? (The binge-watching continues...)
