Silas. I THINK the GM bus is a 4104. Not sure. The engine is DEFINITELY worth saving! It is a 6-71 Detroit, inline 6 cylinder 2 stroke, Clark cycle. These are fantastic diesel engines! It has intake ports opened at bottom of the stroke, and exhaust valves in the head, likely 2 per cylinder unless a later head was put on with 4 valves per cylinder, for increased flow. Tne ports and valves open at same time-actually exhaust valves open slightly before the intake ports to allow “blow down” of the spent gases for better exhaust removal and so hot pressurized exhaust gases don’t blow back into the intake air box. Then the piston opens the intake ports, now both the exhaust ports and intake valves are open, and the Roots type blower on the side of the block forces in high volume air at low pressure, 2-5 PSI, and it goes into the air box in the block, then through the intake ports, simultaneously pushing the remaining spent gases out through the still open exhaust valves and out of the cylinder, then the piston goes past BDC, goes up, closing the intake ports, at same time the exhaust valves also close, the fresh new air is compressed, gets hot because of tge high compression pressure, near the top of the compression stroke, the injector sprays fuel in, the hot air ignites it, piston passes TDC, hot gasses push piston down on the power stroke, and the above sequence repeats. Up is compression, down stroke is power. Intake and exhaust are at bottom of stroke, at same time. Beautiful design and efficient! These engines are the greatest diesel in world history! They run electric motor smooth and sound awesome! And YES 2 stroke! The drive to the rear end is a “V drive” and only uses a torque converter and a simple one speed gear box with forward, neutral, reverse! Excellent design and super reliable like the engine snd no shift jerking because it has no gears to shift! All automatic. These were fine machines. Best diesel buses ever made! Hope ya sell her whole! Worth preserving!! Cheers Silas! 👍🏻

@@2StrokeDriptroit That bus is a GM TD series, Old-Look, transit model. It no longer has its original side windows, in addition to other modifications. The GM PD-4104 is an intercity coach with bright aluminum cladding, forward-slanting side windows, etc., most-famously used by Greyhound and Trailways. They were built from 1953-1960, and used that same GM 6-71 diesel as the old look in this video.

The refrigerator in the bus looks like a typical RV refrigerator that is propane or electric, so it does not have a compressor. It will probably work, and they run forever on a tank of propane. The transmission in that is weird. It is a "2 speed Hydramatic", and I remember the GM busses in San Diego having 2 speed transmissions. When the bus would pull away from a stop, the transmission would stay in low in most stop and go city traffic, but if they went on a longer road without many stops and they could get the speed up some, like around 40, it would slam into second gear rather hard. They were geared so that they could run on the freeways. BTW: a little trick on any gas refrigerator. If it does not cool, try turning it upside down and leave it for maybe 5 minutes, then turn it right side up. You wait for it to stop gurgling and fire up the burner. It should start cooling again.

There were two twin bed frames built over the back wheels and those fresh water tanks sitting in there were under the beds. That random copper line going up to the roof is PROPANE, the tanks are on the roof, if they are still there I never looked. That carpet was under the beds is the reason it looks newer, awesome find on the coin, who ever did the conversion must have lost it laying the carpet.

When I used to have big holes like that. I would dig out all the dirt and gravel and make it deep and then bury a bunch of engines and heads and other stuff that would be solid and not crumble. And then I will be bury it all with dirt and gravel and that would never ever sink again once it was all packed in. And it wouldn't really cost me that much in scrap metal compared to gravel and dirt I kept putting on top of it

that 50c piece is pretty cool. Those circulated for a very long time, until real silver coins were no longer produced. Used to see quite a few like that pre-65 when I was a kid. All kinds of coins went through the till at dad's gas station. They started disappearing from circulation pretty fast after that. Even saw a few into the '70s working at a gas station in college, and it was usually kids coming in to buy candy from our counter. You knew they'd raided mom and dad's coin stash. They wouldn't have had a clue.

What a wonderful camper-bus that must have been at one time. I still think it is a beautiful bus. Certainly nicer than most of the modern junk driving around these days. Not too long ago I saw a semi-truck with a huge trailer behind it all set up as a “camper”. It had panels that could be extended on the side. That thing must have cost a fortune. Anyway, an enthusiast with some time and love and money should probably be able to restore that van and turn it into a beautiful camper. A shame to scrap it, but from your point of view I understand that you can't do anything with it. In fact, like any other car, it's just a piece of metal. I'm afraid your half dollar won't be worth that much, but it is a unique piece, so you should keep it nicely. Thanks for the great video, and I look forward to the next one! 🙂👍
