Kampanisu has many local variations (and often families have their own recipe, which is a variation of the local version). Some use more sugar, some less, and some not at all (in the East Lapland less sugar is used than the West Lapland, in Kemijärvi no sugar at all). There is also variation in the number of fingers depending on the place. The common number is 4 (Salla) or 5 (Kemijärvi), but there are 3, 6, and even 7 finger versions (Kuusamo). In some areas, it is bent into a steep arc, which makes it look like reindeer antlers.

Korouoma is awesome. I've visited during all of our four seasons and it never disappoints, even after multiple visits there's still more to explore. Autumn is also nice with all the colors. The climb out is a workout, especially if done multiple times a day with a backpack. Wilderness cafe owners are also very nice people. Visited last year and the cafe wasn't open, but they offered a coffee at their rental hut when I'd pass by. Got out of the rain to warm up and chit-chat everything from hiking to music.

You actually grilled your sausages on the newer place that was actually built by the tour operators. Which is why there was no firewood and it was already lit. I guess the new trail actually goes slightly past the original camp spot with two lean-to's (Laavu in finnish) and fire place's. It has a composting toalett and also firewood. I have fond memories of sleeping on said Laavu many years ago... it was a bit nippy at times, as it got as cold as -25 C during that trip. Also some of the most spectacular or striking waterfalls are actually downstream of where you started your way backup the hill. But since it's a bit of a slog and not maintained, you would have needed snowhoes or skis. I'd say that the nicest looking fall in Korouoma is Bluefall (Sininen putous) or also often called Wolfs tooth (Sudenhammas) by climbers.
@AdventuresofAplusK10 ай бұрын
The fire pits were very nice! We got lucky with that fire still going! We did see the sign about how those are for the tour groups and figured if there wasn't a group around then we could use it That camp spot and other waterfall sound awesome!

If you encounter a semi truck in bad weather you can't slow down, because longer you are in the cloud more likely you are going off the road. And if you slow down and someone is behind you they can't see your breaking so and ram into you and in worst case scenario they hit you and you fly to on coming traffic. So no slowing down when they come towards you, faster you are out of it the safer it is for everyone. Friendly tip from a local, seen so many horrible head on accidents in KZbin (Sometimes with a semi truck even) so don't want anything to happen to you. Tips what to do. 1. If it is clear so you can see far, but only when the truck is going past you lose visibility and you see it far away you have to look at the road where it is going before the truck is past you and follow it as best as possible. 2. If you can't see the road like in example 1, you have to look at the red posts on the side of the road then you see you are going on the right tracks. When you are near them on your passanger side you are good. 3. Best thing on bad weather is to have open a navigation app that follows you in real time then you see where the road goes so you can anticipate the turns and see them. Sometimes this is the only thing you see when the weather is really bad you have to turn according to the navigation app. And that is scary. I recommend Waze as the app.

Stud or friction tires are required by law in the wintertime. You might not have time to run into a police car before you crash anyway, so... There is that :D Basically suicidal
@joojoojeejee605810 ай бұрын
All tires are "friction tires", but to clarify, you meant snow/winter tires without studs.. ;) Generally they work well in conditions like in this video (dry ice/snow). Studs are useful when the temperature is a bit warmer and the road more slippery.
@pvdogs210 ай бұрын
In some regions of Canada, studs are banned as they were causing extensive damage to roads.
@joojoojeejee605810 ай бұрын
@@pvdogs2Studs are banned on some individual streets in Helsinki (as an experiment or something). :) Anyway, winter is generally much milder in Canada than Finland, so there's less need for studs or specific winter tires in general. Apparently "all season tires" are popular there... In Finland the law requires winter tires (studded or without).
@AdventuresofAplusK10 ай бұрын
We were thankful to have them!
@pvdogs210 ай бұрын
@@joojoojeejee6058 Yes, where we are in the southern part, we use all season tires outside of winter and winter tires during the winter season. In some parts of Canada, the studded tires are allowed only during some months and in some areas commercial vehicles are required to use studded tires during the winter. In areas where you can RV in the winter, winter tires and some sort of traction device like chains are required. Some areas of Canada can get really frigid temperatures. Alberta this year has had a few days around -45C (without the wind chill). On the other hand we have had a very mild and dry winter in southern Ontario although we did have a couple of weeks with the temp hovering around -27 C.
