I realize that I am writing this one year after this original aired, but I feel compelled to say that as a Connecticut native, you guys did an excellent job of covering most of everything Connecticut has to offer. Excellent job! Perhaps the only detail that was left out was that Connecticut also offers many bucolic dairy pastures and produce farms with breathtaking scenic vistas, as well as more than a few quaint small New England towns scattered throughout the state. The most important fact is that you both have shown is that CT is SO much more than a "pass through" state on I-95. You two are wonderful travel guides, you are both seem to enjoy each other, and enjoy life together, and as such, are a joy to watch!

I was born and (mostly) raised in Connecticut, and the Mystic Seaport has always been one of my favorite places. Just walking around there gives you a glimpse of a way of life which has largely disappeared. Another thing worth noting is the ruggedness of the terrain once you get off the beaten track; between the rocks, the forest and the winter weather you wonder how anybody ever managed to farm there.

Love the video! As a local, it’s amazing to see all that you did. I also work for the Mohegan Tribe so it was 1. Great to see you stay at our casino, and 2. I wanted to add a bit of indigenous history you missed. Specifically, “Devil’s Hopyard” is one of many locations of cultural importance to indigenous people of the area. Originally, the story was that the Giant, Moshup, became so angry that his feet turned fiery red hot and he walked from the Martha’s Vineyard area, west across New England. Where he stepped, he left imprints, such as those found at what’s now known as Devils Hopyard. When early settlers arrived, they attributed many indigenous stories to the occult/demonic origins. Hence changing many names of local indigenous sites to “devil” instead of “Moshup” and retold indigenous people’s stories involving the devil instead. Love the video, but wanted to share this information for anyone interested. 😊

As someone born and raised in Fairfield County and who moved to the middle of the state but travels all over CT, you really showed the details many overlook. Arethusa's ice cream shop and farm fresh restaurant usually dont get recognition from travelers. Yale has the Peobody museum, and the Beineke rare book and manuscript library too thats also worth seeing. Gillette castle was built around the dragon. The dragon head is where smoke came out from the chimney, the claws, spiny back and tail are around the sides of the castle. The reason for the rough sides is for the dragon scales.

As a New Havener, I don't think it's a big deal which spot you got your apizza from. Zuppardi's is highly regarded. The whole "rivalry" between the pizza shops is overblown. I'm just glad you got some Foxon Park birch beer! Reminds me of when you got birch syrup in Alaska. Did they taste similar?
@AdventuresofAplusK Жыл бұрын
We agree! We're sure you can't go wrong with any of the apizza shops! We hate these highly opinionated foods because no matter what we pick, people come at us and tell us we picked wrong 😂 It tasted different! The birch water was like slightly sweet water, but this definitely tasted more root beer-y.

To Europeans, we always think US food sizes are big and know to get a small, but those ice creams were on a whole new level! I dread to think what their large sizes were like! Where I grew up, there's an open air museum that reminds me of the Seaport museum as like the one in Connecticut, the buildings used to exist in a real-world scenario and they were taken down brick by brick and rebuilt at the museum. My mum would always tell me one of the old Victorian terrace houses in the 'town' part was the home of a kid she taught.
@AdventuresofAplusK Жыл бұрын
That ice cream scoop was off the charts! I think they would just hand over the bucket if you asked for a large 😂 We love those kind of museums! We've really enjoyed being around stuff that is as old as it gets here in the US! But it doesn't compare to how old buildings are where you are!

The historic ships were amazing. When I visited Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI (just outside of Detroit), I noticed the beds in the homes of this Revolutionary period village were quite short. When I inquired of the docent, she explained that early Americans were much shorter than they are today. James Madison, the nation's fourth president, was only 5'4". For architecture fans, New Canaan is home to the landmarked Glass House designed by the late Philip Johnson, who was a professor of architecture at Yale. Though he built the house for himself, the building is now open for public tours.

As a Connecticut native I really enjoyed this video. You did a good job at kind of sampling the whole state. The gorgeous mountains and waterfalls, the food (Arethusa Farm is my favorite ice cream. Raspberry is my favorite flavor). I've actually never had a steamed burger and I've lived here my whole life lol. And Mystic was a great place to go for history, also. Too bad you didn't get to check out the aquarium. I think they're one of only 6 aquariums in the country that have beluga whales. Imo you should have gotten pizza at Pepe's. lol. But yeah, Connecticut is a beautiful state and a lot of people don't realize it because they don't go out in nature. Even in the winter I like to go on hikes and to see waterfalls. I even get ice cream at Arethusa in the winter. Summer is still my favorite season here, though. And yeah, it's a bummer that you didn't get to make a RI video, but that's what the weather is like there a lot of the time. It can change on a dime, too.

Connecticut has many amazing things that are close by. Within 30 minutes you could go from hiking in the woods to world famous pizza in New Haven, right near famous Yale University. BTW, concerning "firsts", the first person to fly did it in Bridgeport Connecticut, by the name of Gustave Whitehead, who did it in 1901 in front of 10 eyewitnesses. Back to natural beauty is the Connecticut coastline, and if course Route 7 which we travel every year for the foliage and stop off for a big dinner and stay overnight up there. Another btw, is Connecticut's Wine Trail, I think Connecticut has 13 Vineyards, some of which have their own restaurants. Really, a nice, nice area.

Hey! Welcome back to New England! I live about a mile from CT and am discovering a lot of beauty there that you don’t see from the aggressively driven highways. A lot to explore. I can’t wait to see what you focus on in my home state of MA. Clearly Boston, hopefully the Cape, but so much to see outside of the metro area. Safe travels!

I love Frank Pepe's white clam pizza. The line is always crazy - but awesome. At least it is less busy there, we usually order and go eat in the park.

If you haven't made it to Iowa yet, he won't want to miss Maquoketa caves state park. It's beautiful! Some other suggestions are the Field of Dreams, Buddy Holly crash site, and American Pickers, though you're both young, you will still appreciate these.

Iowa will be our 50th state and we have big plans for it! 🚴♂️🚴♀️. We won’t have our van so we’ll be very limited to where we can go, but we’d love to visit again to see some of the spots you mentioned one day! Thanks and thanks for watching!
