New Mexico: One Day in Albuquerque, NM | International Balloon Fiesta, Sandia Crest, & MORE!
For state #41 on our journey to all 50 states in 2021 we made our way to New Mexico! For our time in the Land of Enchantment, we spent one day exploring the state’s largest city, Albuquerque, but we didn’t just explore the city! A large part of our visit revolved around the city's iconic Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. The Balloon Fiesta is a nine-day event held in the first full week of October that hosts over 500 hot air balloons from around the globe making it the largest hot air balloon festival in the world! But our adventures didn’t end there! In addition to the Balloon Fiesta, we also got to check out the Albuquerque Old Town as well as Sandia Crest… A 10,679 ft. peak that looks westward over the city, making it an amazing place to catch a beautiful New Mexico sunset!

It was beautiful to see Oct. 6, 2021 from another perspective. My baby brother turned 52 that morning and his life ended that morning in a road rage shooting near Old Town. Hey my hometown! Born and raised! For the viewers trying to imagine The Box when you look on a map the balloons will travel north to Bernalillo slightly west towards Rio Rancho then south towards Bosque Farms area and slightly east towards the Monzanos then north back to the field. The wind has to cooperate though. If your Plan A fell apart there is the Tram, the Petroglyphs Park, or the zoo. Glad you had a great time!

In AZ they do a Halloween balloon festival where the kiddos trick or treat to the balloons inflated on the ground. Lots of food trucks and there are larger balloons for tethered rides... The Balloon Fiesta this year was truly amazing! I grew up and currently live in ABQ so this vlog was super fun to watch! I love this!! They have a balloon race in St Louis every year in Forest Park, and the night before the launch is called the Balloon Glow where they light up all the balloons at the same time!! (But don’t launch them) There’s food trucks and entertainment, and it’s so magical to see the balloons all lit up at night!! To be honest… Not really! Lol… It was just all the time that we had since we have jobs that we had to get back home for. I would say, if you can, spend at least 2 mornings/evenings at the Balloon Fiesta and spend the late mornings/afternoons exploring the city. Hope that helps!
