Arkansas: One Day in Hot Springs, AR | What to Do, See, & Eat in Hot Springs National Park
In this week’s video we’re in state #24, Arkansas! We only had one day to explore The Natural State, so we headed to the small and unique town of Hot Springs which is home to Hot Springs National Park. There are many things that make Hot Springs unlike any other city. The most obvious of these is the natural hot springs that have drawn people here to bathe in the healing waters for thousands of years and it was those same waters that encouraged congress to make it the first federally protected land in 1832 (40 years before Yellowstone became a national park). Another unique thing about this city/national park is the fact that it is the only national park that includes an urban street known as Bathhouse Row! It’s also the only national park with its own brewery (Superior Bathhouse Brewery)!
We started our day in Hot Springs with a self-guided tour of the Hot Springs National Park Visitors Center which is housed in the old Fordyce Bathhouse which we highly recommend! We then headed to Quapaw Bathhouse where we spent entirely too long soaking in the healing waters before ending our day at Superior Bathhouse Brewing… Which on top of being the only brewery inside a national park, is also the only brewery in the world to utilize thermal spring water in their beer!

Really appreciate the detail about the town and how the bath houses work before going there! Thank you. You guys seem like a lot of fun. Interesting about the noise. Seems like a recipe for migraines. Noise, heat, probably dehydration...together with not eating, which of course we usually forget to do when we travel because we're in a hurry to get out the door. We live really close to Bath in the U.K. which has a popular natural spa and you can see the old Roman baths. I like that these ones had 4 different temperatures. The pruney fingers are practically a super power because you can grab things in the water better than people with normal fingers haha. Dear Matt and Nat, At the very outset I like to appreciate you for your great effort to show us the beautiful hot bath systems in modern set up. It is far better than the large numbers of natural hot springs . It has temperature control and quality control of the water in which people remain floating like frogs for hours together sometimes having long durational nap after getting drowsy for the price of a just 10 KG packet of India Gate Basmati Rice in Patel Brothers Super Store , that too with no time limit for the entire day with the great scope of enjoying yourselves to the hilt. There is not a lot of industry in Hot Springs unfortunately, however my brother worked for an electrical company in town. I’m sorry I don’t know the name. It is a beautiful place to live, and yes a lot of tourists! If you are comfortable working at a casino, Oaklawn Casino pays well and has good benefits. They are open year round, with the influx of thousands during horse racing season!

We stayed at the waters on the 27-38th, this year for our anniversary. Wanted the Arlington but reviews of mold etc was a no go. Last year for our honeymoon we stayed at Capone's loft and it was AMAZING!

Hot Springs looks like fun! We have been to Eureka Springs and love the area. I have a history of migraines too. My eyesight gets affected, and they usually last an hour. I enjoy your videos take care.

I've been to Hot Springs more times that I can remember and I don't remember thinking that the road seemed noisy on Central Avenue. I just don't want people potentially thinking about going to Hot Springs to get the wrong idea because Hot Springs is so wonderful.

Maybe it was just during our visit then? But there were a lot of large trucks (dump trucks, cement trucks, etc) passing through which made it pretty noisy. It didn’t ruin our trip by any means, just something we noticed. Still a wonderful place to visit! Thanks for watching!😊

Great video y'all! The hot baths sound awesome, just gotta stay hydrated! That may be the cause of Nat's migraine :( Or possibly walking out of the tranquil spa to that loud ass street! Geez, y'all weren't kidding about the noise. Matt, your surprise at liking the hazy ipa, I feel ya man. I'm not a fan of ipa's in general, but the hazy ipa's are delicious, if you're ever back near Asheville, I recommend Neon Ghost hazy ipa from Bhramari brewing, the Lorelai is really good too. If you return be sure to drive outside of the city to rural areas. The Buckstaff Batthouse is my favorite place, and over the years, I have spent $$$$$$$$$$$$ thousands of dollars, no regrets. I get and drink the fresh free spring water daily and I soak in the hot/cold mineral springs daily, too. I am never ill!!!!! I hike daily in the national park, and I would not live anywhere else in the world. I have met folks from all over the world, from Spain, Japan, China, Portugal, Europe, Canada, Russia, & Switzerland, etc., come here to get the fresh spring waters and soak in the mineral springs. We go to the local farms to pick fruits and buy organic veggies, RAW HONEY, spices, artisan cheeses, locally grown grass fed meats, etc. .............................. relaxing in my huge, colorful, handmade hammock

We did Quapaw too but we did the private bath 🛀 and then a couples massage after. My massage was the worst I’ve ever had… but my husband said his was the best, so I guess it depends on who you get. lol 😂 Next time we’ll try the public pools!!!

As a native of Hot Springs, I would go to the Buckstaff at least once per week and the Ohio Club was my hangout. I don't live in the city anymore, but every time I go back I hit both of them up before I return to my new home. I know the Buckstaff sounds a little crazy, but it's awesome to be pampered. The Ohio Club is an awesome cozy spot for my childhood friends and me to hang out and catch up. Also, anytime I'm back around the holidays, especially new years, I spend it at the Arlington. They usually have something going on, oh, and it's haunted. 😀

In the 1950's-mid 1960's illegal gambling in Hot Springs was abundant. As a teenager of 14-19 while walking the street in downtown I passed the Ohio Club often, it's ouside doors open and looking in I could see the gambling machines and tables. There was a lot of fun in those wild days/nights. Newly elected Governor Winthrop Rockfeller closed it all down in 1967.

We were suppose to go to the Hot Springs the first of March but had to cancel our plans : ( . Looks like a cool place to check out though! So sorry you left feeling poorly. I feel like the wait to get in was because they had to wait for people to leave for maybe fire safety reasons? Anyway, Would like to know how many people can be in there at a time. The street kind of sits down in a valley, so I’m sure that doesn’t help matters, but also the amount of large trucks (semis, dump trucks, etc) that use the street is crazy! If they would restrict access to those larger vehicles it would make a huge difference! -Matt

Thanks for visiting our town! Bathhouse Row Is one of our most traveled roads in Hot Springs. It connects to several of our main roads. It is loud and very busy! Many buildings across from the bathhouses are being remodeled and/or rebuilt. Being down in a valley just amplifies it all! Ya'll should come back and enjoy some more of what Hot Springs has to offer!! Horse racing (Oaklawn Casino), Lake Quachita, Hiking/Biking trails, Fishing and the good ol' southern Food!!

Hot Springs Creek which heads in the West Mountains (about 3/4 mile west up Whittington Ave, near Tiny Town and about 3/4 mile north up Park Ave, near President Clinton's boyhood home) flows from these head waters via a box culvert, parallel, UNDER Whittington Ave, Central Ave, ('noisy main street' aka Bath House Row and State Hwy 7 in downtown), Bridge St, (shortest street in America, all 175' of it...lol), Broadway St, Market St and Broadway Terrace where it day lights to the surface ditch at Church St and Broadway Terrace intersection. This might be some of the noise problem as well as the brick and mortar buildings on each side of Central Ave helping retain said noises! You can Google this creek along the path I've described and see both ends. At least 2 times I've seen this undeground box culvert fill 100% full during a rain storm and then the surface of Central Ave becomes Hot Springs Creek. Downtown flooding is commmon (maybe once every 15-30 years).
