My dad was the project manager at becks mill, he owns Pritchett brother’s construction. When I was about 9 years old my uncle took us in to the cave while the water was drained out, we saw blind fish and even some very large rooms in there. I love Salem, they have a great Mexican restaurant too! And obviously H&R bakery, thanks for the videos. We have so much history in Lawrence county

I really love the tours you do of these lovely Southern Indiana towns. I come from Ohio and now live in Florida, but in recent years before leaving Ohio I had started spending more time in Indiana, especially the part of the state along the Ohio River from the Ohio-Indiana border down to Louisville. I moved my big boat down from Cincinnati to Florence not far from the Belleterra Casino and my dad owned and operated a successful foundry in Richmond the last twenty years of his life. I have not been to Salem but it looks to be a lovely town. That county courthouse in the center square is a beautiful building. The downtown area still looks prosperous. I hope that there are not too many vacant storefronts. Some little towns look like ghost towns anymore. At some point I will probably be coming back to live in SW Ohio, and if I do and have my health that I can still travel, I will want to explore more in Southern Indiana thanks to seeing your videos.

Lots of charming little towns in southern Indiana! A few years ago I did a survey of every town along the Ohio River, from Lawrenceburg to Mount Vernon. I have to say, it was a healing experience, and would recommend it to anyone. The last major Ohio River town, to edit and publish, is New Albany, which I hope to complete this winter. But away from the river, my true obsession has been Corydon, and I have filmed and re-filmed it numerous times, to get everything right. Corydon was one of the first tourist towns that Dad brought us to, when we were kids, and I’ve always treasured it.

I always enjoy your videos. I lived in Dog Trot Road, west of town around 2003. Straight north of the highway is Wonder Valley Camp. They had a couple of waterfalls. Some of the older folks told me about going to the camp when they were kids and the waterfalls were their showers. There was also a cave near the camp, but it was on private property. We had permission to go through it. It was a hole that you dropped down through and walked a little ways and came out the other end. There are a lot of names and dates on the walls. There’s a story of a French soldier that was separated from his unit and spent a winter in that cave. I heard he wrote a short book about it, but have never seen the book. Washington County is full of history. I worked for John Jones for a couple of years while I lived there. He was really good to me. They had an event at the 1820’s village, where they made parched corn and they also had an apple press. There’s also an old Quaker church on Trueblood Road. So many things to see and experience there.

IF you ever get a chance, how bout making a trek to either Gaston or Muncie? I saw that you've been to Santa Claus, but the videos are only a couple minutes. How about a longer video showcasing the many stores and also Holiday World. My wife, son and I went there in 2007. What a cool place! My aunt and uncle told us about it. I'd never heard of it before, so we took a drive...it's a little ways from Ft. Wayne (that's where they live). Thanks for the great video. We recently visited en route to Chattanooga and to see if we could find some ancestry info. Both my husband and I coincidentally have ancestors who lived near Salem at the same time in the early 1800s although they both came from different places and both ended up in different places. I got about 15 mins in the hay center before they closed and wasn’t I sorry! It was awesome! And now that I’ve seen your video I have about 10 more things to add to my list.

Indiana has a large number of military memorials, at least one in every county. Not to mention ones in graveyards. If it weren’t for our veterans, we would not enjoy the freedoms we have today.

@AdventureswithRoger Couldn't have said it better. I have SEVERAL vets in my family, so I love being able to attend these events and pay my respects to not only my loved ones, but the millions of others that fought along with them. Nobody should have to do the things vets have to do.

@AdventureswithRoger you should look into making a video on Columbus, IN to see if there's a video idea that could fit the style. It's an hour from Salem, and it's a fairly decent size due to the growth and presence of Cummins. There might be something here that you could use for a future video :)

Good times! I grew up in central Indiana, and it was just a given, that every teenager in the area, was going to cruise around the town square! I don’t know of any place that still has that tradition. Back then, it was like a rite of passage: you get your license, you drive your friends around the square! 🙂

I’ve done segments there about Christmas, the town of Madison, Clifty Falls, the tunnel, and the JFD Lanier mansion. There’s much I still don’t have though! 🙂
