I've driven to the Yukon about 5 times and Alaska twice. When you drive the Dempster Hwy , drive carefully because new gravel is laid down in June and it is very loose so you can easily slide off the road if you go around corners too fast. This is why I prefer driving in August when the gravel is compacted down and the road is smoother. It's a great drive and you'll enjoy the vast scenery.

I live at 4,000' right on the US/CA border in north central WA. The house on the hill to my right (north) is in CA. My view to the west is the Pasayten Wilderness and Cascades (US), and the Snowy Protected Area and Cathedral Provincial Park (BC). You are right that when you gaze out at the magnificent mountain ranges, the borders and lines created by mankind seem a wee bit silly.

I would totally consider living in a small town like that too. Can't wait to see the next parts of your trip. Safe travels! Love from South Africa 🇿🇦

Loui, you have to stop at Coal River Lodge on the way up. The people running it is awesome. Spent a couple of weeks there in 2021. They accommodated us as good as they could :) And if you have time you should go down to Atlin, BC. They have a fantastic coffee roaster there, Atlin Mountain Coffee roaster. They do everything off grid. Solar and wood fired roasters
