This is a fantastic project! I’m 2 years late to the party but you took a useable knife and made it a great knife. Really well done!

I think it looks really good, I would feel well proud of that, I genuinely turned away a mini Hudson Bay Knife because the handle was a joke, terrible. Looks great man

Good job but I would also have made a nice hole on the tang and on the handle to be able to attach it to the lanyard / strap which is always useful!

@@AdventureTimeOutdoors I was walking the dog last year and came across a burl in a little dead tree. Next time i went I had a saw. I slabbed it up, not too well, on a band saw and left it to dry. Some not bad grain. We will see how it turns out. Did you see the haul of vintage fishing lures I picked up on the weekend? For $1? Thank you for the reply, Mark

@@AdventureTimeOutdoors I was planning on a video. No big mods. It was used as a garden tool for years. I had done a part one a year or two ago. Why does that sound familiar? Any way, I am going to give it a try and film it as well. I think the rod is a berkely from the number on it. The reel looked like it had never been used. Thank you for the questions, Mark

Ya I have worked in the steel industry for 17years and have seen some really bad accidents. Guys losing finger, bad cuts and broken bones. I have a good respect for machinery and sharp edges. The next one is going to be way better. I am going to make my son his first knife. I will film it from start to finish and I'm going to pull out all the stops.

Why not rebore the holes (SLOWLY) to fit the 6 mm pins? This is a question, not a suggestion.

That was my first thought but when I put it on my drill press I broke 3 drill bits on 1 hole. I figured they hardened the tang aswell and it was just not going to happen.

@@AdventureTimeOutdoors I also bought into the hype about this knife, both figuratively and financially,and found so much wrong with it.I have medium size hands and I could hardly get a good grip on it because of the munchkin sized and badly designed handle. And the size of the ricassa was simply ridiculous. Also, no loophole to retain a wrist cord which made the knife too easy to slip from the hand and too dangerous to use; so I sent it back. However, to be fair, the knife had possibilities for improvement and wished I had the tools and expertise to refine it, so imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon your channel to find someone that not only agreed with me, but also had the tools and expertise to do exactly what I wanted to do with this knife. And what a fine job you did. It was well worth the wait! P.S. I think you should send your video's to the Condor People (who incidentally make very fine products other than this disaster} and show them how a real Hudson Bay knife should be made.
@AdventureTimeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
@@rangefinder3538 I ate a lot of crap from viewers when I ripped on this knife. It seems to me that some knives are made by people who have no experience with them. There were so many design issues with this knife and it always comes down to the price. What do you want for that price or I expect too much for that price. Mora makes great well thought out knives with proven designs for cheaper. The Hudson bay camp knife isnt a good knife it is a cool looking knife. The only reason I kept it was because I had so much fun throwing it. (It really throws nice) if it wasn't for that I would have thrown it away. It feels much better now in the hand but I still need to field test it........and throw it around a littlelol

It's called (proprietary) hardware makes it hard to copy or clone the knife. Without being able to tell you would be surprised there are fakes out there for just about every make (ZT) (BUCK) (Down under knives) you name it

That steel looks to easy to drill.
@AdventureTimeOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
It should have been but it seems like they hardened the handle. It wore out 3 of my bits and I was useing the slowest speed on my drill with lots of oil. Dont know why the steel was so hard but it killed a new cobalt drill and 2 slightly used ones. So I gave up.
