The dropped floor in the sleeping loft is brilliant. Great design and layout.

Agree! This is the detail that made this design livable for me. A shorter ceiling and extra windows is a great compromise to get more height to stand up and get dressed. LOL

I am 5ft8, I could drop it even more. :)) But then again, the current measurements would suffice either way.

@@davidchandler6885 Yeah I saw a design that Bryce could stand up in and I loved it! But I think it is a brilliant idea for them. Actually I saw a design where the loft was above the bathroom and the entry part was not only dropped but had a closet at the end. This also allowed for a large bathroom.

Love what she said..."you build a tiny house not for resale value or somebody else, but for you! the people who are going to live in it." Brilliant! Every, single thing I remodel or add in my sticks and bricks foundation house is heavily considered with permits and resale value, regulations, red tape, etc. etc. Yech! I would sooooo prefer to just build for ME. Wow, what a concept! haha I'm going tiny...
@biggest23

Yep, that's spot on. When I was working in the UK, the TV was bloated with a number of tedious series on redoing houses and it was just an endless parade of experts promoting generic design to assist in resale. Absolutely nothing of the owners character was revealed and they lived like visitors in their own dwellings. Slaves to the market.

Bryce!! This is, without a doubt, the absolute best episode of Living Big to date! Not only is this the most phenomenal Tiny House design and execution and couple for that matter, but your hosting and interview style is so natural and authentically charming. Making these shows has given you the best experiential education and polish. I cannot wait to show my husband this particular episode so can understand and get excited by what living in a Tiny Home could be. And This couple was initially inspired to it by your show as well! Unreal.

I've been researching tiny houses for over a year now. This is by far the best one I've seen. I like the idea of 10 feet wide. Just gives it that extra space to not have it feel quite so tiny or cramped. Love the look of the climbing wall but I'm afraid I would never make it up there using that. Lol

If it's only a storage loft, I think a fold-out stair in the same wall as the climbing wall. But for something used daily, a stair built into that bookshelf and wall...

One of my favorite homes. Lots of light, spacious feel, modern but cosy decor. The kitchen is beautiful. It would be a pleasure to cook in it! I love the main loft- very clever design. Sometimes I feel all the pull outs and puzzle pieces to make a tiny home work are cumbersome. It’s nice to not have to pull out the bed or push it in to eat dinner... I guess for one person it would be ok. Great home!

Has anyone tried putting RV style "slide outs" on a tiny house like american RV's have? It would give more space in living etc areas yet allow the slide to come in for transporting?

Wow!! I love the roof on the porch... I had a deck with a roof like that, it was lovely to have beautiful light coming through even on a darker day☀☀☀☀☀☀☀

A great build and very open and uncluttered - sorry to see them sell but I'm sure the new owners will appreciate all the hard work that went into it - good luck on their next adventure of building a family - which is much harder than building that lovely home and one you can't walk away from as it is for life - thanks for sharing

Best Tiny house I have seen here yet. Really agreed with a lot of there decisions. The folding furniture does make a home feel like a holiday home/caravan/boat to me also. Very livable and the outside seating space really makes the whole thing seem much bigger. Shame I am from the U.K where red tape stops us from having the freedom to experiment with alternate ways of living that are less costly. (think thats why I see so many Brits on this show living in NZ haha)

Definitely a superior design. Seems very spacious and yet the loft is nice and private. The only concern is that smaller window in the main loft. Why not have it big enough to leave in case of fire? That should be a requirement.

Explain how the fire is going to start?

Bobb Bob They have a two-burner stove in the kitchen. She was holding up a candle. How do any fires start? Just because they are off the grid doesn't mean fires cannot start. Doesn't it just make sense for whatever reason to have another exit? It seems to be a no-brainer to me. I really don't understand why tiny houses have so many windows in the first place but at least have a big one in each loft (like a skylight) to provide an alternative escape route in case of whatever!

Agree with you one thousand percent on this point. It would be a nonnegotiable feature in every design where safety is considered.

NobleDesignMedia I don't like to be fear-based or paranoid, but just as a way to feel safe, I would do it and I like the skylight idea because you can even go out and sit on the roof sometimes!

lemurian chick Oh right...a two gas burner..Which is only used when you're standing next to it....That's a fire hazard. and a candle. i have candles too. A simple smoke detector would cover all those needs. Which in most houses you are required to have or you won't get insurance coverage.
