What should the beginner student of knowledge be busy with? *Be busy with studying ilm and only ilm* 1) Sincerity for Allah - الإخلاص 2) Correct intention - تصحيح النية 3) Perfect the reading of the Qur'an al-Kareem - قراءة وتلاوة 4) Start memorizing the Qur'an 5) Learn the Arabic language 6) Learn the Adhkar of the Prophet ﷺ 7) Move on to other sciences that your teacher advises you with

The goal of a Tālibu-l-3ilm is to know Allah's Dīn and then act upon it and donate that knowledge to others, not to be in the "highest league", cuz that would include a false Niyyah which results in Riyā' wa-l-3iyadu billāh.

I believe what the shaykh is referring to is the drive towards high octane knowledge and scholastics. A certain mindset and character is required to obtain these sorts of things. Also, there are narrations from the scholars of the past in regards to seeking a high level in talibul ilm and wanting to memorise even more than the greats before them. و العلم عند الله تعالى

I have been watching your videos alot and love what you do and the way you deliver your talks. There is an item you mentioned in this talk that I understood in a way that is wrong. I see this item amongst many imams and scholars. It is that saying those that pursue knowledge of Islam and dedicate their lives to it completely are above those that go into worldly careers (when you said "الله فضل بعضكم على بعض"). The use of this Ayah in this context is wrong. It provides an avenue for those that become students of knowledge to feel superior to those that pursue worldly paths. It is a poisonous idea that has deprived the Muslim ummah of the power it once had as Muslims deem those that pursue worldly careers as 2nd class to scholars. How many Muslims are there today that are top class scientists, doctors, mathematicians, economists, engineers etc.? People subconsciously don't take these paths seriously as they think that they are "pointless" since the hereafter is the final abode, when in fact work is Islam with the correct intent is worship in Islam. The work that people do has a rippling effect. Even the most meaningless jobs have a rippling effect throughout society. Economists can change the trajectory of entire countries, influencing the very way of life of millions. Imagine a Muslim economist introducing positive change into their country that helps Islam flourish in some way. How could such a person be considered below a scholar of Islam just because they pursued a "worldly path"? At the end it is not so clear cut to the degree that simply because one dedicates the their lives to Islam they are automatically considered better. Their status is elevated greatly but one cannot simply state that they become superior just by that one merit alone. Indeed Allah has preferred some over others but the metrics by which Allah has established his preference is more nuanced.
