Mistakes - 1) not knowing ur niche, target audience and what they want to watch 2) crying over losing followers 3) not thinking long term (what kind of business u want to start as a creator) 4) not building an e-mail list 5) poor collab pitches (instead, focus on what u can offer the creator/brand) 6) sharing ur videos on irrelevant promotional groups 7) not engaging with ur audience 8) giving up too early --- Goodluck guys!

Recently a friend of mine was telling me about how no one seems to like or comment on his Facebook photos. I replied, "Well, if you only post photos about your personal life without building any relationships with other people by, for instance, commenting on their photos, why would they comment on yours?" That was kind of a eureka moment for me. I also remember Gary Vee saying in one of his videos that he spent months if not years just commenting on people's Twitter posts to build connections. By sheer volume and hustle he was able to begin building something huge!

#2 is so key. Once I got a nasty DM from someone who got upset that I unfollowed them because they had a follow for follow policy. She said I'd "slapped her, a small business owner, in the face" and I was "making myself look more popular than I really am". I kindly replied and told her that I had a right to unfollow someone if I decided that their content wasn't for me (I don't mass unfollow, I genuinely saw some of her stuff in my feed that I didn't like) and she'd be better off spending more time on her business than coming after individual unfollowers. People come and go, focus on posting quality content and engaging with the people that DO follow you.

I worked for one of the biggest companies in the music industry and was climbing the ladder quickly. It was so scary to leave a job that so many people viewed as glamorous, but I just wasn't happy. I just started my channel this week and your videos have been extremely helpful to me, so thank you so much Vanessa! It's amazing & inspiring to see your growth in such a short time. Question: How many instagram followers did you have when you first started your channel? I've always wondered!

Just want to add that the end of your video says allot about what happens to a person who pursues starting and running their own business. And that thing is that they make themselves more employable to others because they are creating a skill or skill set that is marketable and is backed by their portfolio of work. I definitely noticed the better and more educated I got, the more job offers lined up. What a distraction 😩 probably would be way further along in my business if I didn't take the job and kept working on my personal brand.

I am so happy I watched your video, because, I have been trying to collaborate with a few other creators whose contents are completely different from mine but we share the same audience. The commonality is I do psychic readings, most of my subscribers are women, they create contents related to beauty, their subscribers are women. I did exactly what you said two weeks ago, I thought it was a win win offer, although none of them replied, I feel good about what I did, my approach wasn't about only helping myself, but what I can offer their subscribers as well, and I knew I would have shocked them and make it fun for everyone involved. I have also tried to collaborate with others who do device evaluations to no avail since I am also a software engineer with a degree in CS and Electronics. I will keep trying till someone sees the value in what I have to offer. Thanks for validating my idea.

Niche down is my favorite point you make, being a specialty restaurant not a buffet. I know this is what every other adivisor on KZbin & the planet is saying but This feels so counterintuitive!!! I'm being so incredibly hard headed on this one so just wondering Who else struggles with refining your niche & finding a way to cut it down & grow your channel well. I love my channel and what I do but I am getting discouraged because every single topic I want to create content for is TOTALLY over saturated! I was at a wedding the other day and I was describing your first rule in detail to someone without ever hearing it. I noticed the same thing, everyone starts doing the same type of video over and over and only branches out after they grow a huge audience. It's an issue for me as my first viral video was wrestling related, and I wanted to work on other things, but I've realized that my small audience are people who followed me for the wrestling content.

Awesome content! Thanks for you coaching, the best I have seen so far!!. Just a question: how does KZbin check watch timing and promote a KZbinr to keep them active and more visible? It comes to my mind because I had a boss who used to ask her employees to open the KZbin channel of the company and play all videos at least for few seconds to keep it active and make people think that it's actually popular haha...it was such a ridiculous idea. But now you explain that and it makes me curious. Thank you so much!!

Haha the "Have a great life and I'll see you in the next one" sounds so ominous lol! But I love all your content, and at the mention of a "sales funnel" I imagine your channel to be a giant funnel of content. Great work keeping all of us creators engaged! Amazing to see your channel snowball in real time!

I love this! Building a channel is challenging is a challenge and really planting a seed and just have the patience to water it (work on it) everyday. You really have to start somewhere....

Hi Vanessa, thanks for putting your camera info in the description bar, which one are you currently filming with? I’m considering purchasing the Sony one, but I heard it overheats.
