I am a selftaught dancer and I don‘t regret the decision of going into my cellar every weekend and practise dance. It‘s never been easy for me, bc I‘ve hidden it from my family. A lot of people said, that I am too tall to dance and just not fragile and tiny enough. They said I should focus on my grades and not on a sport where I‘ll never be successful at. People wondered why dance meant so much to me, cause I would only do it at home. But all of those people dont know, how it feels, to fall in love with a sport, and how strong this love and passion can be. I‘m now dancing for one year and I‘ve improved so much. But for me, it‘s not about being the best, it‘s about loving what I do. And I REALLY do. I enjoy dancing with every count and with every step. While dancing, I fly. And that‘s what define dancers. The feeling of flying while dancing💫 UPDATE: holy frick it has been awhile since i wrote that. I am now proud to say, that I was able to join a small dance studio where I started to learn with an actual teacher! I have improved so much and at the end of the year, I was able to choreograph and perform my OWN solo! I DID A SOLO INFRONT OF PEOPLE! NEVER GIVE UP YALL❤️

I am a self taught dancer. My family is not wealthy at all. My parents think only study can make you successful. But I know I can dance . I wake up at 4.00 AM for dance practice when my family is in a sleep. I don't have any seperate room . When I get chance I start to dance . I really enjoy it. After watching your video I gain much confidence. Thanks a lot

Thank you for this!! My mum says that I shouldn't try to do ballet as I am nearly 17 and am not the fittest, skinniest, or most flexible person in the world. I keep trying to tell her that I'm not trying to become a professional, but she insists that since I didn't start when I was younger my body hasn't developed it's muscles the way ballet dancers' do and I could do lasting damage to myself. I would love it if you could do a video on the topic of starting dance "late", and maybe have some pointers for dancers that are trying to teach themselves "late", as I do realise I could damage my body and would like some advice on how to avoid that. Thanks again!!

Ayzeck Nozniksid I started Ballet at age 3 and was always the smallest and struggled to leap more than an inch. (strong shoulders and thighs) But that is OK. No person, not even a pro. is perfect. Just seems that way sometimes. In fact starting Toe Shoes too early i.m.o. is harmful to the joints. Start turns slow a single turn at a time, same with jumps. Have consistent posture, square shoulders, hips, and BEND the knees slightly always. And you will be right as rain. I get inflamed joints (from my genetics), and had heart defects from birth. But because I stretch, take breaks, and gentle on my posture and knees I am still dancing sometimes. Never ever too late to follow your heart. Who knows, you may suprise yourself and be a pro. Best Wishes.

I take absolute beginner adult ballet classes. Ages range from the teens to people taking ballet for the first time in their 70's. Dance is a great for the brain - body connection and it is super fun. With the right teachers and absolute beginner level you, will not hurt yourself. Enjoy the beauty that is dance.

It doesn’t matter when you start! It doesn’t! I started dancing when I was 13 because that’s when my family could afford it (there was an assisting program at my studio that allowed me to assist classes for credit towards tuition). I’m not trying to be a professional either, I just love dancing it makes me happy. As for starting young I teach intro to ballet (3-4) year olds and I used to assist a 2 year old dance class. Honestly the forest years as a baby dancer is building motor skills, with the exception of those spectacular one in a million dancers who catch it at 3. Don’t let that hold you back, I let that hold me back for a long time and it hindered my progress. I’d recommend doing NYC barre (it’s like an hour long) your technique will be so much better. Ask around at your studios if they have tuition assistance programs or programs where you can do something and trade that for tuition. If you work maybe use some of that money to enroll in a dance class (if your Mom says it’s cool). And don’t give up on yourself. I know watching all of the competitive dancers on Instagram and whatever is intimidating but you have to focus on what you want. I hope that helps!!

Ayzeck Nozniksid I started adult beginner ballet at the start of this year and I’m 15 and have never done it before. I’m in a class with all adults. My ballet teacher only teaches teens and adults and believes anyone can dance if they want to! No one is too young to start ballet and if you find the right teacher then you will love it! I’ve been working on my flexibility a lot by just using videos so that’s definitely something you can be doing. Body shape doesn’t matter either! In terms of doing damage to your muscles yes you might hurt a bit at first because your body isn’t used to it but like people say “no pain, no gain!” you should definitely go for it because it’s one of the best decisions I made. I don’t want to be a ballerina but it’s so helpful for getting awareness of your body and I want to go into musical theatre which is why I started it. Also it’s so good for your mind. In that hour of ballet I completely switch off and focus on dance and it’s amazing. Good luck and I hope you find the right class for you! ❤️

For a long time I wanted for become a dancer since a kid but my family was not wealthy plus my mom never encouraged me to do anything when I was younger. For the past year i've been trying to get flexible, being my healthiest as I can, and trying to stay constant with my work this really gave me inspiration! ❤ Thank you so much!

Thankyou so much for this! I gave up dance after my second year so my brother could play hockey. My single mom said we'd eventually have enough money for dance later, but we got a new child, and our money's being directed to him. I know I'll now never be in a studio again, and I left it at that. Now I'm a teenager, and I'm starting to dance again. Your videos help motivate me. I went on a break after hurting my knee and when I started to dance again my family made fun of me. I feel like I can't get help from anyone, so I got in a hole where I just stopped dancing and was really discouraged. Eventually, I started to dance in my room or on our deck outside. I got out all my feelings and emotions out through dancing, and here I am. I dance daily and love it. I know I won't be a professional, or ever dance on a stage for an audience, but now that thought doesn't hurt too much. Dancing is my passion and love. I don't need someone's recognition: I just need myself and dance. So thankyou for helping me through this journey!

Motivation comes and goes. Instead make it a habit. Two helpful books are: The power of habit by Charles Duhigg and Atomic Habits by James Clear. Also if you are in the United States and happen to have a YMCA near you, consider joining. When the studios are not in use, mine allows us to use them. My friends and I often get together to practice routines from the classes the Y now offers. (tap, ballet, Jazz, Broadway) If your Y doesn't offer dance classes, start up a petition. I've seen that work in 2 Y's that I go to. All Y's are different but that has been my experience in NYC. They also give financial aid if you can't afford membership. Thank you Miss. Auti. Another good video as always! ♥

Agree with everything you said. Also, a huge help is finding your main personal reasons for dancing, and remind yourself of those often to stay motivated on your own or in studio. For example: it takes years to build my endurance to even jog a mile in a "normal" time. And I still have days where it is not possible to jog at all. I was born with heart defects, so continuous cardio is hard as I need to rest frequently. In dance, like hiit, yoga ... etc. I can try hard for 30 to 90 seconds (more if I am lucky) and slow down, or stop and restart etc. So it is achievable even on a not so perfect physical day sometimes. That is my motivation. It is what brings me back to floor year after year. It can be adapted to all levels and bodies. And it makes me feel alive and rarely frustrating. Anyone can find their individual reason and passion for what they love, and when they do they will return.

I'm a self taught dancer, started at 17 ,,watched lots of youtube tutorials until I became addicted to youtube 🤭but it's paying cos it just 2 years down the line I've been soo good at open freestyle dance and now I perform at events tho not the big ones but that is just the beginning 💪💪💪..if I managed to do all that training n everything I believe anybody can do it...just have self discipline n always pray before doin your training,n another thing don't be aiming at instant gratification ❌ but instead focus on delayed gratification cos it comes w lots of goodies🥳🥳🥳...

First I wanna say thank you so much for the motive video.. I'm one of the dancers that I had to do every thing by myself cuz I'm living in a country doesn't care that much about dancing specially when I was younger then the war came and I had to spend 11 years of my life teaching my self dancing and get to know many styles and fall in love with them and now after 11 years I have my own dance crew and hundreds of dancers working with me after I tried so hard to spread the culture of dancing in my area giving them hope and always teaching my dancers to lean on their self and never be afraid when they have to cuz they can do it and dancing is totally worth it ❤️

Self-motivation is my biggest challenge. Frequent relocations, constant change in life routines, plus being a mom and frequently getting sick or getting injured causes regular interruptions to my movement practice, but I've noticed that when I pick it back up again, I'm stronger than the last time I picked it up, even if I've been set back. Almost 40, I move for my own health and personal pleasure, not to become a professional, but I want to get stronger and more skilled as I age. Having a home in my ever-more-liberated and spirited body for as long as I'm able to is my goal. I really appreciate Miss Auti 💓

Hi, Auti, you are so valuable, thanks a lot, what you've said is very encouraging, because not anytime the self teaching have the trust or Faith to keep on track because we need names, real people to imitate the example or simply knowing the have done it in the same way, and as "the Boss" used to say -this gun is for hire....-, we need always a motivation word in the middle. Here's my advice for anyone: Self-consciousness comes from: 1.Clarity 2. Quality. 3. Congruency 4 Compromise. A 4 C's sense that leads you to success if you just have the interest on the reward. You mustn't forget it or soon be quitting. Love you too Auti.

My mom told me i would have to pay for my own dance if I wanted to do it, she says I would just quit on the first day :( I don’t have the money, since I’m not old enough to get a job. I don’t have a lot of discipline since I’ve never done anything like this before. I do combat training, and my teacher said dancing could really help with grace. I’m a very tall skinny awkward person, and I hope that this can just build confidence. I’m going to try, and I’ll update this as I go along. I have no idea what to do but I’ll try my hardest. I want to dance because I want to express myself, and I want to help myself to get more fit, and to just be graceful and confident. I really hope I can teach myself and learn to dance :))

when i was younger, i hated dancing in general. when all the kids were dancing and singing on the birthday parties or in school- i was always the one who was sitting and almost cried how awkward it was (lmao). i was very interesting child haha i always had on my mind "what if they judge me" "people are watching me" "this person is probably laughing at me" etc. my parents knew that it was hard for me to socialize, i used to be very shy and not even saying anything even if someone asks me something because i thought if i don't say anything they won't think anything. anyways i wanted a sport, no matter what is it, i just wanted to do something like other kids, not be left out and have a hobby. first i did basketball, it wasn't really best experience, i didn't know anybody and all of them were older than me. it wasn't really a sport for me. a bit later i started having social medias, watching youtube and musical.ly more. i loved watching gymnastic videos, i liked them so I've been a gymnast for a while. i knew alot of things and moves, one of the reasons why i was a gymnast is because i could impress other kids and be more special. i started being less shy, getting bit older and making friends at gymnastics. I've thought that i will be gymnast forever. i started being very competitive, comparing my self to others and trying to be best. i was getting kinda- loved in my class getting all of my popularity which made me other person. I changed a lot, starting to be a bit pick me actually cuz of all of the attention I've got. one day, my music teacher said that we have to do a dance, whatever dance we want. i didn't know i could do that ahshhaha i died how embarrassing it was but whatever anyways i played the music at home and started dancing. I've put more energy in it and sent it to my dance teacher. I've got a good grade and praise (probably the fake one) , but i felt somenthing. something about dance. my gymnastic classes were getting boring and i felt like I'm forced to do gym just because of my popularity and attention. i gave up and started dancing. my friends couldn't belive it lmaoo cuz i hated dancing. i do comteporary dance now like 1-2 years and if there wasn't my music teacher i wouldn't dance. thank you so much for this video it actually motivated me

I've always been interested in dancing and people have told me i'm pretty good at it so I asked my mom if i could learn contemporary, she was pretty surprised but she said she'll try to find one, I've done a bit of gymnastics so i know some basic tricks, i kinda knew that there weren't really any dance studios here in my city, then quarantine started, so at june i started learning easy kpop dances though i know i'm not really good at hip hop stuff but i led my mind to believe it's the only thing i can do, i stopped dancing for 3-4 months because i think i weren't improving, i'm chubby, i have huge thighs, and when i see dancers it kinda brings me down because they look so toned and i look like melted ice cream, and i was always told by other people to stick to singing and leave the dancing to other people. It was November 2020 when i started dancing again, my flexibility was horrible, and my jumps were lower than they already were because i never had good jumps, and everything was just a mess, it's currently February and my flexibility is getting better i can do some of my old tricks again, i'm currently striving for better feet, arms, jumps and control specially turns. Sorry if that was messy HAHAJSJA it's currently 12:14am in my country and i'm trying to type without my parents noticing that i'm awake HAHAHAHAHHA

Personally, dancing comes naturally, I have this leg flexibility, a little back flexibility, But it was not always like that, my flexibility journey was not always easy, I watch a girl called Anna Mcnulty, everyday, two times a day for stretching and I got much better, anyway. I don’t like the idea of “going to a studio” because I do mostly improv dance, and I really enjoy it. I dance because I love to, not because my mom told me to, or because other girls and boys at my school did, I dance because I have a passion for it and I am motivated, If you are not motivated then dance might not be for you, the passion is different for everyone, my sister loves animals, my mom loves to cook, my dad is mean(I don’t live with him) my brothers are good at gaming. Basically, find the thing that lights your soul on fire 🔥 Maybe that is dance or maybe it is something completely the opposite, only time and curiosity will tell. Be the best you can be!

I do the most basic steps atm and work on muscle development and flexibility. I noticed I forgot to roll out my muscles only today. I just want to be able to have a better posture and get moving and maybe a bit more. Atm working out for 30 to 90 min a day. But I'm 40.

Stretch. That's literally all you can do. Stretch slow and deep but never to the point that it hurts. And warm up before you stretch to make your muscles looser

If you pulled your hamstring, the most important thing is rest, do not stretch before it is healed and is not painful anymore

Does anyone know if you can get on a higher level faster if you dance train, even if you do it through youtube content yourself, and then you take an actual dance class a year later?

I wanted to start ballet. I’m 15 and I don’t have any classes for my age around where I live. But people on the internet really made me doubt myself. Is it that bad to learn ballet online and from books. Does « bad habits » really make you get injured that bad? I really want to try what should I do? (I am pretty flexible (I can do splits etc) but I don’t have strong muscles.)

Are there some people who started dancing contemporary as grown ups down in the comments? Do you know if there's some kind of forum/ Chatroom online to interchange tips/ videos/ motivation with people who are on a similar journey? It would help me so much since i cant afford taking classes rn.

I’ll never be as good as my mother she was the best dancer at her college, and people still talk about her at that college 30 years later ! . My mom lived in a country with a lot of opportunity for a dancer , but there’s no proper training where I live so I’ll have to teach myself meaning I’ll never become the dancer I wanna be :(
