no need too replace those quarters,some patch work with a mig and body work and your as good as new. when we grew up,we had no money to buy parts,so we repaired what we had. a new quarter will still need body work anyhow,id just fix what you have. grind them patches out of there and re do them the right way,get an old fender our door and grinder with acutoff wheels and cut your patches out.

I would do two new quarter skins. At least from like the door handle high on down. If the quarters were that rotten requiring all of those patches you should probably check the putter wheelhouses and body mounts too. A-body’s are prone to rotting in those areas.

The grinder method works good, but if you're worried about digging too deep into it try a heat gun and a putty knife or screwdriver/chisel. I think you'd be surprised how well it works to remove filler. Theres a bunch of videos of people doing it on here.

Naaaaah, get crazy, go fast, just dig in, you won't hurt it. lol, No, you can take your time but honestly don't go too slow in one area, you can get too much heat in an area and oil-can it a bit. Keep moving around and spread the love. I like the bare metal look too so I think you should replace both, even just stitch weld in a panel about an inch below the top body line so everything below it will be new and you can go the bare metal thing. Someone already mentioned it but I will second the suggestion to switch from sanding to using those abrasive disc "death sponge" looking wheels instead. They take paint off quickly and beautifully, leaving a nice clean metal surface that I'm guessing doesn't have a bunch of dust worked into it like with sanding. They throw material but it isn't as fine as sanding dust. I've used Harbor Freight versions as well as ones from other sources and the HF ones seemed to disintegrate way faster. Big surprise, right?
@kirstieskarz3 ай бұрын
Huge surprise 😂😂😂💯 this was great thank you for all the advice! I love learning from other people's experiences lol 😊
@wfoguy3 ай бұрын
There is only one correct answer. Both quarters need replaced. Patience is paramount in any project. People save and save to get money to fund a project. There's many reasons why many projects drag on for years. I'm older than dirt and I continually remind myself to buy the best part the 1st time and do enough research to do it right the 1st time. After years of building I still make mistakes. When ever you have limited funds, it's imperative to do it right the 1st time. I understand that you need continuous flow to keep a youtube channel alive but if you short cut and redo, I think you will loose watchers. I will be in Pueblo for NSRA, if you have any desire to meet and see what I drive, let me know. Keep plugging. :)

The black spots are what you want so you can find the dents to work out. But honestly in the end, time spent and cost of metal and bondo and grinding wheels, you would be better off getting the OPG partial quarters.

Love watching your vids here in New Zealand. Always a shame to see you struggling along, wishing your channel would go viral so you can make some proper youtube money. Full quarters are nice but also expensive and not an easy job to fit. Patch panels or lower panels cut and welded in would do just fine and youll love that you did it yourself. Id call in some friend of friends favours and see if you can do a deal through Garrett Mitchell, see if you can use some of his companies buying powers/trade accounts to help you get better deals until you can secure your own. Good luck!
