hey Alvin, I'm originally from Texas but have been living in Bay Area, CA for 3 years now. I recently got accepted to a job training program/internship and based off my extensive interview I was told that I could be a good fit for their project coordinator/management track. I've been doing my research in order to prepare myself and your videos have been the most helpful! It's also a relief to hear you are a fellow introvert, that has been my main concern since I started exploring a career in project management. Thanks for your advice, it is very much appreciated.

Is it possible to from a project coordinator to something more technical? I feel like I'm kind of just stuck in a rut.

Absolutely, I've worked with Project Managers who became Project Managers, and even moved up the ladder to be Directors in Program management. You can absolutely do it!

Any times for coming onto a project that has already been started? I'm starting on a new project with a new team that is already well into development. I have only been on projects that have started from 0, any tips on aclimating to a new project where the ball is already rolling?
@alvinthepmofficial7 ай бұрын
@RealJonSarge, I definitely know how you feel, and I've been in that situation so many times. Here are a few tips from my own experience: 1. If you can, speak to the previous Project Lead who was in charge of the project, so you can get a better understanding of the project background, assumptions, risks, timeline, etc 2. Get a copy of the most important Project Documents and read through them (i.e. Charter, Business Case, Project Schedule, Project Plans, Previous Meeting Minutes, Requirements Documentation, etc), 3. Depending on the scale of your project and team, meet with the key project leads so you can build that trust and relationship early on, and ask them questions you have about the project, so you can ramp up as fast as possible 4. Get to know the Project Sponsor, and any other stakeholders who have High Power and High Interest, so you can align on their expectations on the Definition of Success, 5. Understand what the current Communication Plan is, and how you'll keep the cadence of discussions, steering committees, engagement level, etc sustained Just a few of my tips from my past experience, and I hope this helps! What are you doing right now to ramp up with your new project?

@@alvinthepmofficial Great tips! Right now to prep I'm reading " The Professional Product Owner_ Leveraging Scrum as a Competitive Advantage" to help underpin my Scrum Understanding. I am also going through all our documentation on Notion and Discord. I have a meeting set up with the current Product Owner and the CEO to get a understanding of their problems and how we can develop a roadmap to achieve their goals. I also have a meeting set up with our hardware engener who has been acting as the project manager in a limited capacity to understand where the project is at and the needs that a full time project manager can help fill the project gaps.
