Hi Mike. Excellent job you´re doing here. I can make a sugestion on the steering box top cover sealing. Once I repaired one of these from one of my LR and I couldn't find a square ring for it and used a round one wich was a little triky to fit, but solved the problem of the leaking. Probably it's a so basic solution that could look stupid if Adwest didn't do that way, and they sure know the reason for a square section seal. Maybe it was lucky me.

Hi Mike, unrelated question but Land Rover related :-) would you know or remember what size half nut you put on the Defender gear stick when you did that modification to the gear knob some months ago?Many thanks, Richard.

@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks so much Mike :-) yes it is the JAM NUT I need, I did the job you did in the video a year ago, did it with some dry paste which turns into extremely hard cement, it came out really well and neat and the knob never fell off again.

Mike. Would one of the return-2-centre '4-Way/Terrafirma' steering dampers assist the power steering box and pump from turning those phat wheels & tyres ? Well done rebuilding a 4-bolt AdWest ! V.

Do these box seals go brittle if it's left empty and on the shelf for a couple of years then?

With new seals? Not really

One of the top recon firms here in the UK told me that they did if empty and unused and it was one they had done. Leave it as it is then?@@BritannicaRestorations

Probably using Britpart seals... Even Britpart gave up years ago selling recon steering boxes as they were crap

hey, I replaced the whole box. Now I have the problem that my steering arm doesn't go far enough onto the teeth and the nut is only just with all the threads on it, have you ever had this problem? And is it normal for the washer to be bent after tightening? I would be very happy about an answer :)
@BritannicaRestorations6 ай бұрын
Did you use the original drop arm? Usually they go on quite deep
@Defender_explorer6 ай бұрын
@@BritannicaRestorations No, it's a replica part, I had once made the original draft, but it didn't work much further. Thanks for the answer, there are few people who know about it
@BritannicaRestorations6 ай бұрын
Do you still have your original? If so try it to double-check. Normally the steering box shafts are factory so pretty much 100% correct dimensions

I wish there was a magic way of stopping the bottom seal from leaking.
