Giethoorn is so cool. Loved our visit there a couple of years ago. And yeah, it is like a mini (but rural village) version of Venice. And a local corrected my pronunciation of the town - the G is that throat clearing noise the Dutch make.

I'm studying Dutch right now. Giethoorn = clear your throat then say "eat horn" directly after without a pause. Same deal with Gouda: hock up then "ow! da" right after. You got it mate! If you really want to impress, say "Ahm-stair-DAM" for your next stop, accent on the last bit.

Those little chalets u walked around to i stayed in a few months ago. The place that was closed is the boat rental place and to go around on a boat is the only way to see Giethoorn. .a beautiful place to be .

Would have been interesting if you'd seen a huge mountain range in NW Germany lol. Flat as a pancake and once you get past the Ruhr cities and head towards the Netherlands it gets a lot less populated, no cities or large towns and if it's night you don't see any streetlights around, you know before you get to the border with NL that it's there because the whole country is lit up like Xmas tree compared to that part of Germany.

Gouda the "G" is pronounced as an "H" so it would sound like "Houda" in the Nederlands! North is "Nord" if that helps! Don't forget to ask for "Sprinkles! the Dutch love "Sprinkles" they also love Liquorice and "Stroopwafels", I know you will like "Stroopwafels"!
