I bought one recently. Came her for install tips. Mission success. Thanks.

good video. just a tip always add some anti-seize to every place you put two parts together (screw in) that way you will never have a issue taking it apart down the road. If you live on the coast its a must. when your dealing with stainless steal its a must to keep it from binding up.

Thanks for the video, especially the talk through how it works.

You are REALLY going to want to put split washers between the nuts and the hub. Wind will cause the radials to vibrate, which will loosen the nuts, which will cause the raidials to unscrew, fall and get lost. How do I know this? It happened to me. I was down to three radials after 6 months in the air. All it took to fix the problem was a set of stainless steel lock washers from the nearest ACE hardware store and borrowing the tall ladder from the friend AGAIN. Why couldn't they include lock washers with the antenna? PROFIT.
I couldn't tell in the video but I am guessing that there si some type of guying on that 10 ft mast clamped to the vent. I hope so anyway.

I have the JDT2 which has the 6m vertical on top, and 2 of the lower vertical radiators have loading coils and an adjustable stinger. No instructions on how to tune, I'm assuming these are for the 6m. What say you??

Hi iv got vhf scanner here in Ireland's. iv had a standard sky king fibreglass antenna. but the cable has got damaged over the years. so need a new one would u recommend the discone over the skyking for a uniden base scanner. I usually use it for boats up to 15 mile from my house. l
@timtucker58058 жыл бұрын
+seamus doohan I would need to see a picture of that sky king to understand what it is before I could answer that question

Can you please post a SWR plot for that antenna from a VNA like e.g. a Rigexpert?

😅 It's a copy of radio shack scanner discone antenna . I remeber it was sippose work on ham bands gi swr on 6 meters and 2m 70 cm limited to 10 watts max .

Where did you get that cool tri-pod?

What happened to the tripod you showed us?
@timtucker58053 жыл бұрын
It's still in use as a portable antenna mount. Penninger Radio makes those; they have several models: www.penningerradio.com/product-category/tripods/

I've got the same antenna in a Tram version. What kind of SWR readings are you getting on 2m, 70cm, and GMRS?
@TheErod1944Channel9 жыл бұрын
Overlin Alaniz I'm using the Diamond version of this antenna antenna to Receive/Transmit 6 Meters, 2 Meters, 220 MHz & 440 MHz via some mobile duplexers/triplexers. The SWR on all 4 frequencies is about 1.20:1. The Jetstream should be about the same provided that it has the 6 Meter whip on top. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eF6sqJmZhteZiLs

Would this work with a 50 watt vhf/uhf base radio? And what kind of reach do you get running vhf?
@timtucker58058 жыл бұрын
+Sean Maples Yes it will handle 50 watts. You should understand that it is unity gain.
@1OFGODSOWN7 жыл бұрын
It's one level above a Dummy Load because it has No Gain on any band.The receive signals are much better than the transmitted signals with a Unity Gain Antenna.
@smithsterj8 жыл бұрын
What coax are you using?
@1OFGODSOWN7 жыл бұрын
He said,Good Quality RG8.He should be using 9913,LMR 400 or LMR 600 at least since the Loss is very high on those bands with RG8.

what kind of mast should I use on mine?
@AlaskaMike728 жыл бұрын
Structural aluminum tubing is probably the best, but may be difficult to find depending on your area. A discone antenna like the one Tim shows in this video doesn't have a high wind load, so you don't need anything massively strong like you would with a big HF yagi. I've used 1.5" EMT or IMC conduit from Home Depot in situations like this with very good success. They've survived multiple wind storms of 70+ MPH gusts here in AK with no issues.
@wolfgangsnitsar47395 жыл бұрын
@@AlaskaMike72 ... The top horizontal rail of a chain link fence works great for a mast... cheap too... :)
@AlaskaMike725 жыл бұрын
@@wolfgangsnitsar4739 Yes--that's also an excellent choice for an antenna like this!
