I have one installed here at home. However, we also have spiders which love to spin their webs among the elements. Result, the silk webs throw the VSWR out to buggery! The lesson learned: get on the roof with a duster every so often and give it a good go over to remove the webs.

Killer listening on all aircraft bands. Mines mounted on an 8-foot pole set upon a 45-foot roof. Its works. Covers 3 different radios, even ok on SW!

Very good antennas for a universal VHF, UHF , SHF and above =) I have two of them and did radio repair for a few years ...... love them =) Kept the two at the house and used them for everything with out worry to transmit into as long as the frequency was above 50 Mhz =) Now that being said ..... these antennas DO NOT HAVE GAIN over a DIPOLE ANTENNA; but work GREAT on RX and TX within their design frequencies of operation =) Good KZbin =)

@@vincenzom1954 Looks like you can transmit on that antenna .... but not good for any DXing ( the antenna has NO GAIN =) It is like a broad banded Dipole antenna that is OMNI in TX and RX =) I hope that helps out =) I had to look up the antenna that you mentioned as I did not know anything about that product =) I usually build my own antennas for many years =)

I bought a tram 1411 I notice channel 17 cb I have to go up 27.1675 MHz to get transmit onto 17 clearly, if I’m on 27.165 it sounds like a scrambler. Other than that I’m impressed, got it for SHTF transmit 13 miles away. Great videos I’ve been watching a lot of them. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

Cool beans. I have had luck with a 1/4 wave resonator cut for a low band frequency of interest. If you extend the length of at least one of the cone radials your return loss on low band will improve quite a bit. Thanks for sharing !

That's a great tip on lengthening one of the cone radials. I may give your tip a go. Thanks for sharing that.

You are welcome ! It is adding a vertical dipole to the discone. You just about triple the bandwidth of the low band resonator. It will shift some peaks and valleys around when you sweep it but it will still behave like a discone Multiband is all about compromise Let me know how it works out for you.

What i have done with this particular diamond discone antenna.... Buy a Shakespeare fiberglass 8 foot LORAN C whip antenna from west marine with the standard cb antenna thread for about 30 dollars. Put in a barrel nut on the top and place the LORAN C antenna antenna where the 6m was . Put in a LDG antenna tuner between the antenna and radio. Now you can do 40m HF though 1.2ghz UHF . Use a diplexer if your radio has separate connectors for HF and VHF/UHF.

Your permanent mast appears to be metal with your coax running through some sort of donuts. Are they faraday magnets? I am in the process of setting up my first UHF/VHF antenna after obtaining my Technical license. In my research some prefer a nonconductive pole to avoid (ground loops ?) or maybe I'm confusing the terminology with shack grounding. Regardless you appear to be getting good results with your system which appears to contain a metal mast. Any insight is appreciated.

i have a discone and 3 scanners. Can i use like a cable tv splitter that sais 4-mhz-1.2ghz ? Thanks...or do i need to buy one just for scanners? i thought since the frequency in the tv splitter has the specs, that i can use it.. thanks...
@survivalcomms
@survivalcomms 7 жыл бұрын
You can use a CATV / SAT splitter and type F connectors for your receiver setup ( and RG6 cable too !) A CATV / SAT splitter on xmit is no bueno due to there being a lack of port isolation . Some splitters are engineered to have attenuation on certain ports so keep your eyes on that and any splitter increases loss.
@kissingbanditt
@kissingbanditt 7 жыл бұрын
ok thank you sir. I only want it for receive and for transmit, i will have home runs to individual antennas...glad i can use CATV splitters.
@survivalcomms
@survivalcomms 7 жыл бұрын
Dont transmit into one - just wanted to be clear on that. You will be dumping RF right out of your transmitter into anything else in the chain. For passive devices (receivers) you are ok. You can daisy chain coax tees and jumpers for scanners too (most of your assignment desks in media are set up like this) Again there is loss and no isolation but for most stuff you are good to go.

I wonder what would happen to the low freq. response if you made the ground radials longer. A longer counter poise would have to drop the low end by several octaves and make it ring in the basement.
