it is something to do with what is called "Russian steel", after WW2 Russia was kind of poor and they were producing cheap metal and supplying them and back then a lot of Japanese car makers were buying from them, the one problem about that steel is they weren't properly compress and purify hence a lot of air bubbles are in them that is why cars at the era tend to rust a lot *I might be wrong

Sorry for the late reply. It's best if you have a real AE86 by your side as reference. If not, the painter will refer to pictures online and follow the closest possible. According to AE86 painter in Japan, sometimes it's a matter of 'ease to eyes'
