Finally, someone's done a comprehensive flight review of Aegean airways economy between Athens and Belgrade, this comes in handy for the summer holidays. Thanx!👍😀

Thank you Natasha! Are you from Belgrade or just planning to travel around?

Nikola Tesla airport is about 80km from where I live (Novi Sad), and I've always thought of going to Greece by plane for my summer holiday instead of bus (which is anything between a13-20 hour ride). I've heard about Aegean airlines but was never sure what they were like, glad to see this positive report on them.

Aegean Airlines looks amazing! So much better for economy class than most of the other airline companies you've travelled with. This should be the standard for economy. Perhaps more will follow by example.

I love Aegean, they might just be my favorite airline in Europe. I´ve flown ZRH-XFW-JMK-ATH (chartered aircraft), MUC-ATH-HER (business) and HER-ATH-CPH (economy) with them and every time they delivered amazing service. On the 3 hour ATH-CPH flight in Economy, they served a nice big hot meal and they even served drinks 3 times during the flight!

My dream is to visit Greece one day! However I have never flown for more than 3 hours. The hike from MN to Santorini isn’t exactly short! As always, great report! I love your videos. I find myself watching all your older videos when I’ve run out of the newer ones to watch!

we did mainland Greece and Santorini in 2017. The long flight is worth it! We flew Aegean from Frankfort to Thessaloniki, but I think you can fly non-stop to Athens from Either O'Hare or Montreal.

I agree with you about ramp boarding. It gives a better reference of the size of aircraft, and just is "plane" fun to do it! For the amount of money food cost on airplanes you think the quality would be better, but I guess you have include the surcharge for the view! Very good report as always, thanks for this weeks upload!

Nice video Paul, very easy on the viewer. I used Aegean this year from Athens to Izmir, a very comfortable ride, plenty of leg room, boiled sweets, and also the bus and open stairs to board the plane. As you show, it made for a nice trip. Thank you for the video.

As did I, although I did have an overnight stop in the city, last March. It's interesting, at least, but you definitely need a lot more time for it. And with a lack of drivers/problems with people trying to get across the border, the Greeks have bussituted the trip between Gevgelija and Thessaloniki most of the times, as if it didn't take enough time already. Still, a memorable trip I hope to redo soon, but with a stop in Skopje.

Interesting to see typical parts of Athens. I have flown to and from both old and new airports and I'm glad they built the new one. Some lovely food in the Olive Tree restaurant in the new airport. I agree about using a bus and then steps but today my wife would not climb the steps as she is disabled.

Great review again Paul! I see you skipped the lounge, Aegean now has their own branded lounge at the A-gates - as well as the Goldair and Swissport lounges for Priority pass. The best lounge is at the B-gates though, which is the Lufthansa lounge...which strangely tops even the senator lounges in FRA and MUC regarding service and food offerings. Oh, and a side note: Aegean offers hot food on economy flights that have a longer block time. You got a (kinda sad looking) sandwich as yours flight was

You reminded me of when the short-lived Uruguayan airline BQB offered a flight from São Paulo to Montevideo on an ATR-72. Not only did the flight last 4:30 hours, it left GRU at 1:30 AM to arrive in MVD at 6:00 AM - with the passengers wrecked, of course (I doubt one can sleep fine on an ATR). You could fly the same route on another airline during the day in just over 2 hours on an A320 or 737-800, for just about the same price. Of course, the flight didn't last long - and the airline itself didn't outlive the flight for much longer either.

Hey Paul, did you know Aegean ordered 49 A320 and A321 neo,s? (Not 49 of each). It will include WiFi, and they are planning on flights to northern Russia and Eastern Parts of Asia. Would be cool to see you review a flight. (I think they are arriving in 2020 or 2021).

Depends which program you’re collecting towards but in most of the programs I’ve looked at, nearly all their fare buckets qualify for miles collection and economy fares are very very cheap (London to Tel Aviv, £90 one way for example).

I've always liked climbing stairs instead of using an air bridge too, though it does feel a bit ”cheapskate”. As long as they park near enough you just walk, instead of getting herded onto a bus first! (Ruins all the ”open air” aspect for me.)
@JohnEsperancilla6 жыл бұрын
If the airport uses bus gates, they could save more money instead of building one air bridge gate. And the airport jet capacity increases because they wouldn't use that much space. And the airline could save more in using the buses and stairs because every time a plane uses something that belongs to the airport they would pay for it like a rent. So in conclusion, buses and stairs = cheaper and more income for the airline. But it also matters in the Terminal size if it's a regional or a national. But I love boarding by stairs
@xandrios6 жыл бұрын
In theory, airlines saving money on airport fees means lower fares. Looking at the prices that Aegean charges intra-European that is happening already. They are very low cost internationally!

You flew in the morning thats why you got the sandwich. If you had flown after lunch time you would get a proper hot meal even in economy. That's actually how it used to be in every airline back in the day. Aegean still does that.
@Stockstad6 жыл бұрын
Wait? Where is the hot meal in economy? Is just on longer flights or have they stopped serving it?

This flight is well under 2 hours. The hot meal in economy is on (slightly) longer flights.

I flew Aegean twice and they were disappointing both times. I found their ground staff to be arrogant and callous and hated how their staff uses the disabled toilets to smoke (smoking is prohibited throughout the airport). Aegean flight staff were barely tolerating their customers and you could see it by the way they behaved. They put me in a seat where the side arm was not lifting. I was forced to contort my body to get in the seat and scratch my very swollen and sensitive LE legs. They refused to try and find another passenger who would be willing to swap seats with me. Zero customer service! (I am used to flying BA where the staff are genuinely caring and take pride in their job and I am used to life in the UK where people respect the rules and regulations regarding smoking and do not force a vulnerable passenger to queue up for the toilet a member of staff is smoking in and then to have to breathe in all the noxious fumes.) As for the legroom, that is until the passenger in front decides to recline his seat into your knees...

I would add that Belgrade (Beograd) airport is one of the worst I have had the displeasure of being at. Travelling business from Munich to Skopje, the business lounge was staffed by one young woman who could not (or would not) get her mobile phone out of her ear. Refreshments consisted of a stale sandwich and a cold cup of coffee. If you wanted any more you had to pay for it. Generally customer service did not exist - anywhere in terminal!
