Decided it is time to get back into my aw and this was the next component required for the engine setup. It was between two brands and your video has helped me make my decision. Cheers.

Thanks a lot man! I'm super excited myself. Will start putting it all together soon.

So awesome! That is definitely the way to go. Back in the day people would do a WOT run then shut the car off before the engine decelerated and pull the spark plugs out and look at their color to see how the mixture was. If you want to know how each cylinders A/F ratio is you can use that method, but for general monitoring of A/F I'm on your team and I agree with you totally about running this gauge.
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I tried that method out myself, it's not very practical but it definitely works. As you point out a gauge like this is great, especially because you get to see your afr in real time and in all possible throttle positions and driving scenarios, plus the aem x-series fast response makes it real real time :) so it really is a great tool for squeezing out everything from your engine, but also safeguarding your investment against knock.

The price on Amazon just dropped over $20, so only $153 right now for the full kit!

802 Garage wow, haha i just bought one too because i saw the price at around 150. Did it just change in price?

driving 4 answers Bought one! Bryan R Yep! Price changed yesterday. Use one of the Amazon price trackers and you'll see. I actually managed to get it for only $136 by buying it on eBay though. Using a browser extension called Wikibuy I got 15% off my entire eBay order. Bought a dual gauge pod for my WRX, the AEM X-Series wideband, and a GlowShift boost gauge for only $200!

For mine I didn’t need to weld the bung to the exhaust. The stock exhaust has a place to attach the new o2 sensor. Cheers
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
Yours is probably a newer car? I have 2 exhaust manifolds for the mr2, one doesn't have an o2 sensor and the other one has the old style with two bolts, so I'll definitely have to use the bung.
@jeremiahhale50017 жыл бұрын
driving 4 answers I have a 89 MR2 (red). I was able to unscrew the old narrow band sensor from it mounting plate held in with the two bolts the stock exhaust. They share the same thread type so don't undo the two bolts just try to replace the sensor.

What ECU are you running and how would you run that to the ECU instead of a gauge

educate me if u may, i always hear about wide band sensor but to my limited knowldge, i understand it displays air/fuel ratio, and beside that it doesn't do anything else. so it's an air/fuel ratios monitoring device? if it's so needed y didn't car makers have it installed on the car from the factory? what benifit does it provide beside displaying your A/F ratios?
@d4a7 жыл бұрын
+An Trinh Yes it's an air fuel ratio monitoring device. Some just monitor it, this particular one is also ready for data logging and is also ready to be connected to other devices together with which it can also control the afr. For the time being I will use only the monitoring feature. As I said in the video an afr gauge is necessary once you start tuning and changing the amount of fuel entering your combustion chambers, by for example changing the jets on carbs as I will be doing. You need it to see whether your afr is still good after tuning. Cars don't come with it from the manufacturer because the manufacturer does not give you the option to alter the amount of fuel entering your combustion chambers, and doing that will void a new car's warranty.

driving 4 answers. I see , u can also connected to a stand alone ecu to control the a/f ratios? If so that is a very needed for ur vehicle, can it be connected to ur stock ecu?
@tuksee7 жыл бұрын
@an trinh no, you cant connect wideband to stock ecu. You need programmable ecu. Megasquirt, hestec, haltec..

+802 Garage The AEM ones are really neat. I'm super happy to have gotten it. When are you gonna start pumping out videos again? I miss the frequent uploads.

Unfortunately the plan for now is to average 1 video a week and more if I have spare time. Last year of school and it looks like I have about 30 hours of homework a week at least. Plus being a resident assistant and other random responsibilities. There will definitely be MR2 content coming though, including the tank videos.
