Great reviews. But what I find incredible with all these reviews on KZbin, is people only ever pack in a few travel cubes of what looks like t-shirts or underwear. Never any trousers or a spare pair of shoes, which is more realistic.

Load lift straps aren't for "lifting the pack up higher on your back". They are there to bring the pack closer to your back when you use a hip belt to carry most of the pack weight. If you're not using the hip belt, those load lifter straps really don't do much.

Great review. Not a fan of those unnecessary magnetic clasps. I would use those to secure a tripod, water bottle, or even a jacket maybe. However, if the clasps can come undone on their own then what's the point? This is a case of prioritizing form over function. Also, some of the pockets are really overkill
@PTR2K

They're intended to be compression straps however I agree its a bit strange making them magnetic. If you pack the bag and try to compress them I would imagine it would just come undone

@@WilsonLeee yeah when my travel pack 3 arrived I was very surprised at how well they stayed together. Definitely strong enough! My only real annoyance with the bag is due to how I wear it, I tend to accidentally loosen off the straps when taking it off my back. Hoping someone can offer some insight. My current EDC backpack is the 30L Recon backpack by the North Face. This backpack also works as my personal item on trips (no issues with it fitting underneath the seat on airplanes). I want to upgrade to a backpack with a clam shell opening to make it easier on trips when I want to pack my drone. In addition I’d probably toss in a packing cube, towel, sweatshirt and my speaker. I definitely don’t plan on packing it out to max capacity. My question is do I go with the Aer Travel Pack 3 (35 L) or the Travel Pack 3 small (28). The 30L in my NF Recon seems perfect. My concern is that the Travel Pack 3 small might not offer enough space and the Travel Pack 3 might be too big. Which ever backpack I get I want to still be able to use it as a personal item and not as a carry on. Again, I don’t plan on packing either bag out to max capacity Does anyone else use the the Travel Pack 3 as their EDC carry backpack and personal item for flights? Also, any insight or preference for the X-pac or cordura ballistic nylon version?

Thanks, Austin - great review. Thanks to you, I clicked through from Packhacker and bought the Travel Pack 3 from Aer. And then I looked at your Digital Nomad Packing List and bought a ton of those items, too - thank you! I'm heading to India on the trip of a lifetime, and you guys have really helped equip me. One question, though: I'm a big guy, too big for the waist size of the Aer Hip Belt. While other backpack companies make a hip belt extender, Aer tells me they don't offer one. Do you know of something that might be compatible? I can't find a photo of the Aer hip belt "buckle" exposed. Or maybe is there any way to add some strapping at the points where the the hip belt secures to the Travel Pack 3?

Thanks for letting us know, Jonathan! We’re stocked for your new gear 😃 We don’t have experience with adding an extender, but you may be able to use an extender from a different company so long as it uses the same size clips, or you could add the clips yourself. I hope this helps! -Eric

Nice review! I currently have a Cotopaxi Alpa 35, which seemed to fit my needs when I bought it, but it's not the most versatile or comfortable pack. Currently weighing a few packs, but focusing in on the Aer TP3 and the Pakt Travel Backpack... thoughts on which you prefer and why? I don't want to end up with a collection like you have, if I can help it!! Thx
@waffocopter
@waffocopter Жыл бұрын
Oh man, that's my dilemma right now. I'm debating between a Allpa 35L and Aer TP3 myself. I like that the Allpa can tuck/remove the straps out of the way, the inside compartments and that front pocket seems great for shoving a Nintendo Switch in there. The Aer TP3 seems tougher and more structured for less floppy wearing and can cinch down. What to doooo?
@chuckmurphy7280
@chuckmurphy7280 Жыл бұрын
@@waffocopter I have the Alpa and while it's a nice pack, there's not a lot of versatility with outside compartments... just the one large pouch on the top front. When I look at a bag, my first thought is TSA minimal resistance... while the Alpa has a nice laptop/iPad compartment, to keep them separated, they are on the side of the pack. I just ordered the Aer TP3 and will see how it works... I may end up with both and use the TP for air travel and the Alpa for auto travel, as I do like the side by side clamshell design of the Alpa. The Pakt Backpack was in the mix for a while, but it just seemed to me that the Aer was better built. I have 3 other Aer accessories/bags (two thin pouches that I use for tech and toiletries and the Gym Duffel pack) All are SO well built. TP is coming Friday and it'll be going on it's first trip the following Thursday... we'll see...

@@pettykrime2208 I'll probably get both haha, but i was not sure about the order. I'll probably get the black ember one. So far I have used either boundaries' bag for work or the nomatic mc kinnon bag is just too perfect. This one is just TOO perfect that I cannot use other bags but I like to change from time to time 😂 The nomatic navigator 32 is also on my bucketlist but it seems very hard to get it in the country i live in at the moment. The problem i was facing for a long time is that I wanted a perfect bag that I could also use with a quick camera access. The best bag i have for that purpose is the Wandrd prvke 30. I really like the black ember one and the aer one but they are more travel oriented. If they had a quick access for camera they would be the perfect shots.

I love the bag based of reviews and marketing, but read realistically it carries less than bags with the same rated volume. For a 2 week winter trip I like to take two pair of jeans, 7-8 shirts/underwear etc and a few long sleeve tops so only have to wash once per week or so. Also a pair of shoes and or flip flops. My Northface Overhaul 40 handles it without the expandable zippers used. So when I pick up some gifts I expand before returning home. I want a new bag and like the Aer travelpack 3, but seems the Peak or Alpa 35 or 42 may be better. Wonder if Aer plans to have a 30 vs 35 vs 45 expandable/retractable like Peak any time soon? I really like the bags style and features but I am concerned it will be practical for trips over 4 days.

@@PackHacker2 is there anything similar to the Aer Travel Pack 3, but when you open the main compartment to get 2 equal sized compartments, each with mesh covers that zip, instead of one deeper compartment as the Aer Travel Pack 3? A good point is that zipped compartment on the lid of the main area of the bag; it seems vey useful for underwear, socks and pajama or sleep clothing, and the mesh small zipped compartment for toiletries - as you said to get them out for airport inspection if needed.

I own this bag in a bit more expensive X-Pac version, which is a little lighter, more water resistant and has nicer, brighter, easier to see interior color orange. I highly recommend either version if you're on the fence, thinking about buying it. Previously, I had Thule Subterra 23L for travelling, esp flying and that one was an utter disappointment. It just didn't fit much. This Aer Pack 3 has 1/3 more space based on # spec, but it actually feels that it fits a lot more than that compared to Thule's 23 liter claim. And you can fit perfectly under airline seat. The only downside is that it wasn't made elsewhere but China. I'd be willing to pay more if it costed more but made somewhere else.

In term of durability, which is one better Xpac vs. 1680D? I'm surprise the weight for Xpac is 4.2 lbs, same as 1680D. I was under impression Xpac would be lighter.
@austinnh8297
@austinnh8297 2 жыл бұрын
It is lighter. Aer just never correctly lists the difference between the two on their website. Last I checked, it comes out to 15-20% lighter than the 1680D on their other packs, could be more or less on the travel pack. In terms of durability, I’d have to imagine the 1680D is stronger, but I hear that it gets scuffed/dusty much moreso than the Xpac. It’s also more abrasive.
@ENB90

X-PAC will be lighter by a few hundred grams. Would probably be around 3.9-4lbs for the X-Pac version. Very negligible.

Nice video! I bought this backpack. After two weeks of use, my opinion has changed slightly. It is still as beautiful, practical, and made with quality materials. It's a tank! But for comfort it's not as perfect. If you are someone with good shoulder width, the straps are not wide enough. There should be swivels so the bag fits better at any shoulder width. At the back, the padding lacks density. As soon as the bag is at 80% of its capacity or more, you no longer feel any comfort. It's a shame for a bag at this price that has such quality...😢

I don’t like the fact the compression straps are inbetween the main zips, it means the zips are taking all the pressure from the carry load instead of it being mainly taken up by the compression straps. That makes it a no deal for me!
@PackHacker2
@PackHacker2 2 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting point! It will take a lot longer than three weeks to tell if there is additional pressure on the zips compared to the previous version, especially since the materials are quite durable. Thanks for watching! - Austin

I hate that all these bags make such a thin front compartment. Seems like Nomatic is the only one that doesn't, but you guys don't seem that impressed with their products. I just want a single bag with good organization, space OUTSIDE the main compartment for some larger headphones/pocket camera, and a clamshell mode for a laptop and tablet.
