I have a ps5 and thats cap they do run their games at 4k HDR 30 fps some 60fps some 120fps you can get 1440p 60 fps or 120fps in performance mode and 4k 30-60 fps depends on what game in resolution mode you just need a 4K HDR TV or Monitor and the ps5 can run at 4k HDR i know this because they show you in the settings how the ps5 is running on your TV so they can.

I think the 540p to 1080 is for handheld mode. The screen is supposed to be 1080 so that would be perfect for a downclocked CPU/GPU during handheld mode.

This isn't JUST resolution upscaling. This is including assets, such as textures, which will reduce file sizes. Machine learned texture "upscaling/reconstruction" is something Microsoft has been actively looking into(I'm sure Sony also), but has yet to utilize. Truth is, current consoles' hardware is well suited for these features, in thet they don't have dedicated cores for ML(or RT), but rely on more ad-hoc methods via their Compute Units. Switch 2, ironically (or unironically, for those paying attention) has the more advanced and forward-looking design/feature set with its dedicated ML/RT cores that run concurrently with traditional GPU cores. It's where the industry is trending for the foreseeable future.

I was just reading the patent and while I'm certainly happy about Switch 2 having this kind of upscaling, I don't understand why the patent needs to exist. I mean, it just describes neural network upscaling which is not something they've invented. There's nothing novel about their technique, it's all very run of the mill. Again, happy about DLSS, but it's just weird that they've patented it.

I game on PC, A 4080 laptop, and 4090 desktop. DLSS is a marvel. Because of the antialiasing and other tech embedded, it has been known to make upscaled games look better than Native. Not always, but sometimes. It's going to be a very nice addition to the switch ecoverse.

@Mr.Chimpazee DLSS uses machine learning that continues to get better over time as it continues to learn. FSR is spacial upscaling. An approach that works but requires a lot more work by developers to get evolve the tech, so its evolution is much much slower and often times includes tons of artifacts. FSR 3.1 at the Quality level is usable for 4k, but there will be lots of shimmering and artifacting. FSR uses the same render pipeline as raster, whereas DLSS requires specialized AI (Tensor) cores. PSSR is similar to DLSS, but it reminds me of DLSS 1.0 when there where lots of issues

This is great for Nintendo and Switch 2. DLSS is frickin magic. It will allow switch 2 to punch well above its weight. It may have less power than ps5 (much less) but it can take advantage of advancements in tech that came about after ps5 release.

Believe it or not, the PS5 and Xbox Series X do not brute force their way up to 4K. They too use upscaling to hit those resolutions and usually at a trade off for around 30fps. Sometimes they use upscaling to hit 60 at scalable resolutions and offer a "quality" option for 4K native locked.

@@gavinferguson2938 Actually they do brute force their way to 4K which is why their is options between performance (1440p 60FPS) and quality (close to 4K like 1800p 30FPS or native 4K 30FPS) because it can't do both at the same time, one option has to get sacrificed for the other. I'm not talking about the titles that include FSR or Unreal Engine 5's upscaling feature. Nor am I talking about PS5 Pro which uses PSSR. My point is PS5 and XBOX SERIES X is still capable of hitting 4K right out of the box without needing any upscaling to do it on games that aren't graphics heavy. Switch 2 won't be able to hit 4K on anything without using DLSS.

The only real weakness of DLSS is input latency, but if you played Smash Bros Ultimate and found no problems with inputs, good news it won't effect you. DLSS is on par on Frame buffering Smash Bros Ultimate uses
