I remember Robin Williams poking fun at wine experts and their wine descriptions. He took a taste of a red wine, swirled it around in his mouth and then declared, “Absurd, yet flaccid.”

Interesting video and I apologies for the next bit, The water temperature, the grind and timing of how long it's steeped and the extraction time makes a huge difference to the flavour. I love an expresso shot of coffee when I'm out in the woods and I put off going on a barista course as I thought it would ruin ever buying a coffee again once you know how to get the best out of the bean. And I was right, the difference in just the grind which affects the extraction time is huge (good coffee shops will calibrate their grind 3 or 4 times day based on the humidity). I think what I'm trying to say is none of us will probably ever make the same cup of coffee twice 🤣Thanks for taking the time to make the video. FYI I use the Waco Nanopress which knocks out a half decent Expresso (most of the time).

FAR more fun than James Hoffman 😊, and you had me running to my Aeropress to indeed hazard the inverted method, albeit with no weighing or temperature control. It resulted in a smoother cup, so - thanks 👍

I, like you, love my morning coffee and have no interest in finding embedded flavours such as pine needles, berries, blue cheese etc. .... other than the coffee. On a motorcycle trip a few years back, I was introduced to a Zyliss Coffee press mug. So simple, all in one, compact and unbreakable. I use it daily at home and all my bike and camping trips... been a game changer.

I quite liked the mad scientist vibe with this one, Richard. With mine I just add coffee and water, let is purculate through a bit, then add water again and push the plunger. Tastes good to me and I get a full cup of coffee.👍🙂☕

That was a good bit of fun Richard. I’d be interested to hear from you if you just tried using the two different methods but with the same quantity of coffee. I wonder if the taste and texture would be more similar? Thanks for the video anyway, love a bit of ‘scientific’ fun. Atb. Paul.

Great video Richard. I love my aeropress i have 5. i use them camping, hiking and at home. I use the inverted method and let it bloom for 5 min before pressing and then add a topper of water it makes a very strong dark cup its enjoyable and tastes wonderful.

I richard, I purchased the OUTIN coffee maker from your previous video. I can thoroughly recommend it and I use a fine to medium grind which I get the experts from my local coffee supplier to grind. Love your videos.

Well done. As aero guy...try setting filter works better. Also 30 grams for pro but scoop is less. Try more coffee or weigh and compare. Love my travel aero. Enjoy. Best is that you used good fresh beans...

I’m not a coffee connoisseur by any means, I enjoy a good cup of coffee in the morning out camping as well as home, I do buy coffee from independent shops and I have a french press that I use most of the time, but for me this video was enjoyable to watch because of you, I hope that doesn’t sound weird but I like the way you explain things that you do camping bike riding traveling around whatever, so keep up the great work and hopefully you can get back out there.

Well Richard (and nice to see Mrs Outdoors too) having received one as a gift, we've found the Aeropress to have improved our coffee drinking experience considerably - and this upside down approach using more coffee will be our next thing to try. There is, however, a point at which obsession takes over and we'll try to avoid going that far. Great video, thank you. Usual regards, J&A&B&T

Great idea for a video Richard. Enjoyed it a lot. I have an aeropress, and use the upside down method with a single serve (using the supplied spoon) of coffee stir it once as it sits for a minute then straight into the cup. I use a warmed cup. Top up with hot water in the cup. So good!

I have a lot of coffee gadgets - a Breville Barista Express, moka pot, Nespresso Original and Vertuo, Keurig, regular brew coffee pot, french press, and a pour-over, but I keep pondering adding an Aeropress to my collection. I really appreciated the nice review in layman's terms. Just a crazy idea - I wonder how brewing hot tea in an Aeropress would fare. Cheers from South Carolina, USA. ☕️🫖

I always use the Alan method but have adapted it slightly - I use 1 rounded scoop and another half-3/4s of another scoop. Press it down with a tamper. Then pour over slightly cooled boiled water, stir it twice forward and once back. Then plunge fast to force it through at speed and pressure. It creates a richer coffee. I think the trick is to use more coffee than Alan does. Also, I use a metal filter plus an unbleached paper one to prevent too much leakage before you plunge. It did make me anxious watching you press down over that glass jug as I’ve come a cropper before doing that over a thin mug where is cracked and exploded 😮 Always enjoy your videos - whether you are inside or out or in the cockpit 😅 ☕️

I make my coffee with the same method each day as i did the day before. However there ends up being days where my coffee just tastes great and other days when the coffee is Just okay. My method of coffee making is FAR from scientific and does have variables due to slight variations of exact bean count/weight since I don't weigh the beans but go by a simple volume measurement. I am currently using a simple pour over brew method. I have to pour multiple times in order to make my preferred 16-17 ounce serving. So each day's brew time most likely ends up being different than the day before by a slight to perhaps considerable difference. It is interesting to me to taste the differences produced through brew duration as well as slight bean weight variances.

Just tried the recipe. Bit of a faff but made a decent cup. I think the volume of coffee to water prevents over extraction giving a smoother taste. Think I learned that off James Hoffman or I made it up.
