I received an aerospace education in another country as a specialist, and rn work in that sphere. I've been working in this field for a couple of years and I didn't have to use higher than basic math at university as I do workflow modeling. Basic math it's pretty enough for a part of aerospace engineering.

I browsed through the school's page which I intend to apply and saw that they are also offering BS Aero Engineering. I got thrilled since I have been in love with planes, spacecrafts, and aircrafts so I jumped here in yt and searched for some vids related to Aero Eng, that basically explains why I am here now. I instantly got goosebumps and extra happy when you mentioned F1 because I'm a die hard fan of it 😭 Is this a sign? Because I'm also worried about all the maths I'm gonna get through. I am SO bad at mathematics.

I'm not going to lie to you but maths is a core component of the degree, however not many people are just naturally talented at it and everyone works to get good at it so I don't think you should be worried. So, I am really in love with physics and the universe. Kinda cliche, I know, but since I visited the Griffith Observatory, I've been fascinated about it. Specially 'cause there are so many mysteries to be found out. But, in my country, being a theorical physicist won't get you anything. I would probably be a high school teacher, something that I'd absolutely hate, or a very low payed researcher. Not for me, sorry. Even though I love physics and astrophysics, I love economical stability better. So I found out Aerospace Engineering. It's not exactly what I want, I won't be learning that much about theory and would focus more on the mechanical part, but it actually interested me and I can see myself making aircrafts or other things. I was actually really obcecated on building robots when younger, and programming them, so I think it would be a fit. I still want to learn astrophysics, of course. I know it might be hard to get studies on the theorical field with a Engineering degree, but I would even study physics on university to get there someday. Engineering would be my money to get what I actually want.

Great question, I think that mechanical and aerospace cover more or less the same subjects, just that aero does focus more on aerodynamics where as mechanical is more tailored for someone wanted to go into a career of making machines which aren't aero or weight dependent. I'd say pick whichever you'd feel more motivated to study as I know people who did mech do aero jobs and people do did aero do mech jobs. So doesn't really matter which you pick as long as you are motivated to study it.

Hey Ricky and David, firstly if you've the academic proof you're capable definitely apply since that's the main thing that matters. I myself didn't have a massive amount of experience building physical things aside from doing DIY stuff. If you do want to improve your practical skills before university I would recommend perhaps building a drone from a kit. So you don't need to worry about having 3D printers and other machines, so it may be a relatively cost effective way to dabble with making something physical. Hope this helps :)

Hi, i'm currently a student in Germany and i am going to graduate in 3 years. I really love aerodynamics and am a rocket/plane and Car enthusiast. I am able to use 2 CAD Programs, Siemens Solid Edge and Fusion360. I also know how to use Autodesk CFD Ultimate. Do you think these things would be enough for an Aerospace Engineering Degree or should I try to learn more? I am quite good at physics and am really mitivated. I am good at maths but I don't have A s in Math, only B s. Do you think I could still study Aerodpace Engineering ?

Have you considered less academic routes, to get into the field? Apprenticeships may be a good option. It isn't a lesser way to get into the industry, simply because the entry is lower, it is simply lower because irl an engineer's role isn't as demanding as what you're asked to do in uni. Universities are teaching you how how to be engineering researchers rather than industry standard engineers.

So I am taking B.E aeronautical engineering, after that will I be able to do aerospace engineering as a PG course? Is that worth it?

Thanks :) In the UK aerospace and aeronautical are more or less the same thing, so not sure if that's the case for your country. In the UK you can do a masters in aerospace engineering after doing a bachelors.

Hi, I know this is one of your older videos but I was just wondering when you were doing aerospace engineering in uni what was your time table like? As in what time did you start your day at and what time did you finish at? Because I’m Irish and looking at doing aerospace engineering myself in uni but over here it’s 9am-5pm Monday to Friday so I’m just curious as to what it was like in the uk. Thanks for the great video too 😊

I’m in my final year of a Masters in aerospace, and whilst I am not the guy in the video, I happen to go to the same university as him (Sheffield). Hours trickle down as you go through the years. Years 1 & 2 tend to be quite intensive time wise (not necessarily difficulty wise). Maybe 9-5 a few days a week, although with frequent hour breaks throughout. However, as you get into your final years, you’re expected to spend less time in lectures and more time self-studying. For example, in my fourth year, I have maybe 5-8 contact hours a week. A significant proportion of this year is my masters project however, so it is mostly self-directed. When deadlines pick up, 9-5 throughout the week is relatively normal. You can definitely get away with less, it depends what you want out of the degree. I would wager I spend ~30-40hrs/week, maybe more towards the end of the semester. Any questions, feel free to ask and I’ll try to get back to you.

Currently researching on colleges to study aerospace engineering I’m confident in maths and physics and trying to apply in us and Canada but I don’t really have extracurricular I mostly spend my time studying, reading books ,playing chess or helping my father in work Currently I’m learning c++ and taking Ielts prep classes also preparing for sat(self study ) What are my chances for getting a scholarship? I’m obviously not going for ivy leagues or some top rated colleges but what are my chances for decent college Heard they put much emphasis on extracurricular and social work so I am kinda afraid

Depends where you’re going but my university was one of the easiest ones to get into Ontario. Reading, playing chess and coding is really amazing for you because engineering is one of those courses that require lots of problem solving and logical thinking and all those skills you listed help tremendously with that. My university accepts anyone really especially because of covid, but places like Waterloo university (arguably the best engineering university in Canada) is much more strict. Usually university give you entrance scholarships based on your high school marks, apply for scholarships from the uni and outside of the uni, apply for bursaries and do good in uni

What should I pursue in engineering if I want a job in the space industry ?

Which laptop is best for students who is studying aeronautical engineering?
@SA64R3 жыл бұрын
If you can offer a decent laptop then get a "gaming spec" laptop so decent graphics card (4 years old at most) and 16 GB ram plus a quad-core CPU. The high spec is so you can do your own fluids simulations and CAD work on your own machine if you need to. Also make sure its a windows computer as you'll struggle with software compatibility with Macs. Its common nowadays that unis have remote desktop, so you can use the better uni computers if your laptop cannot handle the computation power.

I'm a sheet metal worker and work/produce complex fabrications to extreme tight tolerances....I didn't go to uni I did an apprenticeship....and I can tell you now that without shop floor experience aerospace engineers don't have a clue, might be good at maths and cad cam but hand's on skills are awful, they ask us how would you do that, but they then get the praise...and of course the bigger money and pat on the backs...
@onetrickhorse2 жыл бұрын
I completely get where you're coming from, in fact as an aerospace engineer myself, I have faced some hostility in the past from sheet metal fab, toolmakers, etc because they automatically assume you don't know how things actually work in reality. And for the most part, it is true, I know engineers who have never used a lathe or milling machine in their lives, but I would be careful in generalising, because one day you will come across one who does have that experience, and it can make you seem bitter.
@billybodgit62812 жыл бұрын
@@onetrickhorse unfortunately it's the opposite, working with guys who don't know what they're to makes you bitter...I have worked with guy's who were excellent at there job in the past because they had shop floor experience as well as office... unfortunately bullying bosses didn't see it that way and made them redundant and brought there own guy's in . that's why we now don't win much complicated work now because they don't know how to do them... I love working with people who can do both, only if they know what there doing... otherwise it's like WTF...LOL
@onetrickhorse2 жыл бұрын
@@billybodgit6281 Well I must say that's a real shame to hear about your past experiences. I imagine that must be really frustrating to be honest, I can't stand things like that. My father always taught me that you should never ask anyone to do something you wouldn't be able to at least attempt yourself, and to make every effort to understand the process. And if I'm ever confused or don't understand something when talking to the guys on the shop floor, I always come right out and admit it, and ask them to show me so I understand it better, and they never mock me or refuse, they're always happy that I'm taking the time to understand and seek their advice. I also include the shop floor guys in the design processes too, from the start, so they can see what I'm doing and why, and they can tell me early on if I'm proposing something they feel is unrealistic. I learn more that way, they learn more about the design process, and everyone works better as a result. Plus, building a good relationship with the guys on the shop floors has more benefits than being friendly with seniors or execs, because they're the guys who make shit happen, and when I've got a super urgent bit of work I need doing, and I ask them to help me with it, if they've been a part of the design process, they're invested and more willing to help me. And I ALWAYS give credit where it's due too, so their bosses know the great work they've done. It's just the way I think it should be done personally.
@billybodgit62812 жыл бұрын
@@onetrickhorse well done buddy, great to know there's still people like yourself out there willing to learn and also share your skills with fellow worker's...just wish management thought the same way(maybe in some companies they do,just not mine) we have now gone from high complex fabrications and machined components within the aerospace industry down to general fabrications due poor management because all the skilled guys/woman have been made redundant or sacked, only to be replaced with cheep foreign labor on cheap components....sad times 😥
@onetrickhorse2 жыл бұрын
@@billybodgit6281 Absolutely, and thank you for the kind words. I always learn something new on the shop floor I have to say, and to be truthful, even though I absolutely love my job, it does get boring staring at a screen all day or having Teams meetings all day. I know what you mean about management, I don't know where they lose that empathy, like were they always like that, or does it just suddenly happen when they rise the ranks? I completely sympathise too about the outsourcing too. I work for a major aircraft engine manufacturer here in the UK (no prizes for guessing which), and I must say, we are losing skills left right and centre, it sometimes scares the hell out of me who they'll let go. Like I find myself saying to myself, "that's the only guy around here who can actually do that thing, and you're letting them go?", and then inevitably when that thing needs doing and there's no one able to do it, we spend 3 times the money in hiring a specialist consultant or whatever, and usually we have to speak carefully to them because of the sensitive nature of the work, so it takes more of my time too. But that's what happens when the accountants have too much power and don't take the time to actually learn why things are the way they are. One day it will haunt us all though, just look at Boeing. Us engineers need to be listened to and taken seriously more often, after all, we'd still be stuck in caves without us! You seem like a good guy I have to say, and try to stay positive, don't let the b*****ds grind you down!

I get asked this a lot and my honest answer is, implicitly it'll help you understand the theory of flight much more in depth.
