Bought one at Fair Radio in Lima, Ohio this week for 20 bucks. Rebuilt and serviced it and its ready to go again. Even removed the dents and managed to save the great graphics!!

Today I was given the Heathkit Cantenna with oil in it. I may end up getting one rated at 1500 watts anyway. I need it to tune my Amplifier, which is 1,200 watts. They have the 1,500 watt version at HRO for $104.95 with transformer oil a little less without oil. Thanks for the video. Gary KF6EWO

Color me envious. I can't even put out an antenna that will take 100W. HOA and nosey neighbors.

Sorry about that. I used transformer oil as recommended in this article by VAS7JW www.orcadxcc.org/content/cantenna_va7jw.pdf I can't remember exactly what I got but I think I got it off amazon.

I thought about building one out of a old can.
@AERVBlog3 жыл бұрын
That would work fine . The resistor is the big deal but they can be had. Goggle search. Just make sure the resistor is not wire wound. It has to be pure resistance, no inductance.
@gbowne13 жыл бұрын
@@AERVBlog yeah, I'd thought of that too. Probably a summer project. Elmers made stuff out practical things.

@@gbowne1 oh yeah. Done my fair share of that.

What Type of resistor is that?
@AERVBlog3 жыл бұрын
It is called a ceramic tube non-inductive resistor. The outside resistor part is carbon film and the ends are aluminum metalized bands for mounting. MFJ used to have them as part #115-1500A but I don't think they carry them anymore.

I always thought that Cantenna was a great name. If you had shown this video on April 1st a lot of people would have thought it was a gag.

Never thought of that but you are right. So simple so good.

No but you're paying for the Engineering costs when it Was Heathkit, Ann Harbour, Michigan???

Oh yeah. I used to work for them. Good years. Love the cantenna too.
