I would honestly like him to be serious for a while. He needs a change of pace and the Best Friends group needs to be pushed. I think having a more serious Danhausen will help that. They could easily spend a year building Eddie up from nothing, quietly have him go through a character arc where he grows a lot, gets past his own "fear of success" they were building up before with Danielson, Punk, and Jericho, and meanwhile mold MJF into the perfect final boss for Eddie. Spoiled rich boy from Long Island vs street kid from Yonkers? Have that at Grand Slam next year and watch the roof blow off.

let's be honest, there's never been a need for Danhausen to actually wrestle. Teeth spots, Tequila dances and KZbin is more than enough to hypnotise the fans and take all their human moneys. It's interesting though that the very Nice, Very Evil comedy Danhausen was the last attempt at the pro wrestling game after years of being a serious wrestler and then horror movie-inspired disturbed gimmick never really got over. Now that Donovan is finally in a nationally televised promotion I wonder how much of the original twisted gimmicks can be worked into the established comedy version? Properly play up into the Very Evil side as this tag match hinted at? Full on twin personality?

@@Deadguy2322forreal - I'm honestly not convinced yet that he's physically all the way back. I mean, he **should** be, given that he broke his leg over a year ago (Halloween 2021). But in watching his matches, he's not expanded his move set except for adding the manjikitami; that's important because he won't be able to work longer matches without looking repetitive, and part of the reason he's been jobbed out. Plus he looked pretty puffy in this match, which is something Matt Hardy also gets when he can't train regularly. I hope this is a sign he's getting close to being healthy again.

This might have been my favourite pre show on any wrestling show ever. Granted I don't always watch them but this was so great, very fun opener, loved seeing a more serious Danhausen, really good stuff with Starks and Cage, Takeshita announced as being signed (don't know if it was known beforehand but I hadn't seen it mentioned before the show) and a hard hitting match with an emotional aftermath in Eddie/Akiyama. Eddie's post match promo/hype job was hilarious too. Just a great hour of wrestling and set the tone for the rest of the night.

Takeshita's signing wasn't announced beforehand, but was widely seen as a done deal with his DDT contract ending in September. In several interviews in both the US and Japan he said his next phase was going to AEW full-time to be a big star in American pro wrestling.

Kingston vs. Akiyama was incredible. My problem with it? It was too short. ;) If there was a time to have a 'fight forever' chant, that was it. Probably one of the better matches I've seen from Kingston and it makes me wish other wrestlers in AEW would take up the mantle of that hard hitting All Japan inspired style Kingston uses. You don't need dives or tables to pull a crowd in.
