I'm finding subject tracking quite useful and seems to work pretty well in the z-series cameras. How are you all finding it?

Its funny how so few youtubers Really explain how the Camera works. Its more Than One year old and its the first af video that Really explain how-to on the z-series. Thx

Thanks Nikolaj, much appreciated. I've waited for some time to make the videos as I wanted to understand a bit better the AF system as there was limited info provided in the manual. Glad it helps👍

I agree completely. This video was spot on. Most KZbinrs produce long, rambling videos that have a hard time getting to the point. This was a refreshing change. Short and sweet and right on the mark.

Dear Adrian, very good explanations. Recently I switched over to a Nikon Z 50 and your videos helped me a lot to utilize a löt of its functions. Thank you very much for that! Kind regards, Thomas from Frankfurt

Again thanks. This was helpful. I had no clue that the magnifier button with the negative would reset the focus which is especially important in video shooting. This was new and I tested after watching the video. What I also just realized is the sequence in video is a bit different than in still. In AFF mode for video. The gray square followed by Okay button press locks it on focus and it remains on focus as long as it can keep up. Now I realize pressing the negative magnifier will reset the focus so that the camera will do an area-wide focus on the scene and not limit focus to the area under the gray square as there is none displayed. All that to say. Thanks again - I have learned more. But here is another issue in video - that the yellow lock-on focus can not keep up with a fast moving subjects. I do alot of equine work and it does not follow a rider well or keep it in focus. This is with FTZ and 24-70 in good light. Keep them coming and thanks for taking the time.

Glad the video was useful, always good to hear. I have to say I haven't tried it with a fast moving subject so interesting to hear your excperience. When I get a moment I might try it with a couple of lenses to see whether the performance is lens related in any way.

It actually says right on your screen what to press to get out of the follow mode :)

Thank you so much! Saw the video today for the first time. I was wondering if the Z6 had object tracking at all... lol

Didn't even know how to turn any of the auto tracking features on during my first session, which included some wildlife shooting. Was a bit too used to face detection and tracking working automatically in a Nikon DSLR in live mode for video and using 3D tracking AF mode and just assumed it would work automatically or have some sort of iMenu option that isn't there. Also a bit too accustomed to shooting in AF-S rather than letting the camera do 90% of the work in AF-C and auto burst mode. It should improve the hit rate significantly. As tedious as I find sports photography, I'll see how that works with an adapted 70-20mm this week.

Daniel, similar issues to those which I had when switching. It requires a bit of a reboot of the photographer behind the camera in some areas. Hope you're getting there 👍

I’m still learning the Z6ii. Since this video is a year old and we have had firmware updates, is this still the best method? Thanks for your clear explanation. I’d like to set up function buttons for easy access. Thanks for your help!

Oh how I long for the standard of focus tracking as found on the D500. the last firmware update was an improvement..fingers x'd there's more to come ... Ted. Nottingham. England.

Ted, I'm hoping that they'll make some tweaks to the AF in the next firmware to show an approach of continual improvement. For me it's not a problem due to what I usually shoot but it would be nice to see.

AF is just to complex for me on the Z6 - Nikon need to make it simpler
@peterlooper79565 жыл бұрын
@@markshirley01 With superfast aircraft or wildlife it's too many steps to do before it starts tracking. If they updated it so you selected your subject and just pressed the AF button instead of having to select OK it would be much easier.

Good video. I got confused though. Were you describing the old way or the new way? It sounded like you were going to talk about the new way but then only showed the old way (to start subject tracking)

After 3 years using the Z6 I today found out that subject tracking doesn't work well when in DX mode. DX was accidentally set and even when trying to track a distinct, large subject that was in good light, it was out of focus 10 pics in a row even though box looked like it was tracking on screen. Turned back to auto tracking and I luckily got 1 decent, focused shot. How has everyone else found subject tracking on full frame whilst in DX mode? I would have thought it would make it easier but I guess not.
