No major changes from v1 for me but I still purchased v2 as it's a very reasonable £35. I'm assuming new features will appear at some point whereas v1 may only get bug fixes.

Yeah, don't look for updates on ver. 1, only in ver. 2. Of all the great new features I like the ability to now drag and drop stock photos instantly without having to create a new doc first!

Great price but for something that was at one time a serious competitor to Adobe Photoshop but compared to the marketplace now is just a basic image editor with no AI functions, no AI selections, noise reduction etc, I'd have happily paid more for those features

Photoshop has so many features that it has become bloated software. That is why the iPad version got such bad reviews. Many Photoshop tutorials show the ai, but some say you have to still manually fine tune it. Other ai features are great, but I can do the same manually in Affinity. I would rather own the software I use at a good price than pay thousands of dollars and once I stop paying I can no longer use Photoshop. It's a choice we all have to make. Neither is wrong. I can do any job given to me with Affinity. Maybe you can't, so then you should stay with Adobe.
@zugo-tg7125

Ditto on why bloat is bad BTW. They should make something exclusively dedicated to AI instead.
@mwhite212

@@DigitallyFearless I work in both PS and Affinity, and the AI is incredibly overrated. I'm not saying it doesn't save you any time or that in ideal situations, it can even save a lot of time. But on the whole, I've not been that impressed with the auto-selection tools. I always have to go in and clean up the selection unless the subject is on a very simple background. And if the background is simple enough, you can just use flood select in Affinity.

Just found out that v2.0 is only recommended for Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina) and later. I'm using an older iMac running on 10.12.6 (Sierra) and cannot upgrade beyond that. Version 1.10.6 has run flawlessly, but now I'm afraid that I cannot upgrade my Affinity software to 2.0. I cannot afford to buy a new Mac just to be able to run v2.0. Thought I was going to be able to use Affinity as my go-to design software, but I now find that I'm being left behind.
@DigitallyFearless
@DigitallyFearless 2 жыл бұрын
Sad to hear that, but at least v1 still works. I held on to Photoshop CS6 for years because I did not want to pay for a subscription. I was able to get what I needed done.
@jimyoung4959
@jimyoung4959 2 жыл бұрын
@@DigitallyFearless I too have been holding on to CS6, and continue to use it. Was hoping that Affinity would allow me to ditch Adobe completely. But more and more I find that v1 just doesn't have all the necessary features that I depend on. I now rarely use Designer and continue working with Illustrator. I keep seeing Affinity inching closer to fulfilling my needs and had hoped that v2, and its future updates, would get me to the point of breaking Adobe's hold on me. But now my hopes are dashed due to v2 not being compatible with the OS on my iMac. I've maxed out the OS. My old machine works great but won't accept anything higher than OS10.
@mwhite212

If you look into it, there are unofficial patch utilities that allow you to update older hardware to current Mac OS.
@jimyoung4959
@jimyoung4959 Жыл бұрын
@@mwhite212 I'm in a catch 22. If I do update the OS, then Adobe CS6 will no longer operate. But I would have to update the OS for Affinity v2 to be compatible. For now, CS6 is much more feature laden than Affinity v2 and I depend on many of those features. So I'm sticking with my current set up: running Sierra with Adobe CS6 and Affinity v1.10.6.

Some little things here and there is no reason for former owners of V1 to pay again, just for calling this update V2. I'll buy an upgrade when it has at least some AI (upscaling, background selection, etc). Thanks for your vid.
@terrybrooks395

I'm going to switch to a different product now as V1 doesn't support the new RAW files from my Fujifilm X-H2, I assume V2 does but there's no AI at all, no sky/object selection, no AI noise reduction, it's fallen way behind other products because of that, it's a shame as I loved it when there was a cheaper viable alternative to Photoshop, Affinity just doesn't cut it now

Serif or Affinity if you prefer, in my opinion, have certainly released an underwhelming V2 and while they are at it they have completely ignored the loyal user base who supported them in their campaign to rock Adobe's world. 40% sounds like a deal, and it is, if you are a first time buyer. But another 10% for V1 users might have convinced many V1 users to upgrade and hope against hope that Affinity MIGHT actually release some REAL awesome features in future upgrades before V3 hits. And as I understand it, some of the key upgrade features are not exactly industry standard, or even close. Yes Affinity is cheaper than Adobe, but Adobe can charge an arm and a leg because they have the corporate and professional user base gripped tightly in their hand. But also Affinity is a long way away from Adobe products in features. If there is to be a comparison it has to be apples for apples.
@DigitallyFearless
@DigitallyFearless 2 жыл бұрын
If you really want to talk apples to apples, then you have to consider the following. In my 20+ years as a graphic designer and photographer using Adobe Photoshop it did not have all the features that Affinity now has and we were able to do the job. Currently, Adobe has added many more features such as AI that Affinity doesn't have. We can still get the job done. So apples to apples, what do you get for the money. Affinity can read and write PSD files. I can select things manually instead of AI, but I just bought 6 Affinity apps for $99. That is $16.50 per app. I also own them forever. Over time Adobe will cost me thousands of dollars and if I stop paying it no longer works. Yes Adobe is the industry standard because they have been around for decades. Affinity has only been around for a few years and they are gaining ground. Remember my space? After a while people switched to Facebook. If you absolutely need every single new feature in Adobe, then Stay with them. I am more than happy with the features of Affinity and I have not received a project I couldn't get done.

Seriously, Adobe wasn’t all that when it started out, affinity is affordable and very powerful for its price. We will only have the monopoly of Adobe if people don’t vote with their wallet and support non subscription software. The integration with all the apps is worth it alone, I’m supporting serif because I want a choice.

Ok, there seems to be an impression that I am an Adobe Fanboy! Not so, never been one. I was an Affinity fan though and I have used it for several years. The Adobe subscription model is corporate greed at it's finest. Right, that's cleared that misconception from y'all. However, I stand by my comments that Affinity is not looking after it's original user base but instead wants to draw in more users by offering this amazing discount. I do know that while it will indeed attract new users and some of y'all who upgrade not because it offers a substantial improvement but just because it's not Adobe. I agree Affinity is good software and I do use it in V1. But without offering any ongoing support for V1 users it is slamming the door in our faces. So I will stay with V1 for now and monitor future V2 upgrades. If or when I see some significant upgrades I will then decide if it is worth my hard earned cash to buy in. I'll just wait until they have the next sale or they realize that retaining their current customer base is worth considering a loyalty offer. So I hope that will help smooth the ruffled feathers of y'all Affinity apologists 🤓
