Thanks very much for this excellent tutorial. Played around with procedural texture and came up with what appears to be simpler: Duplicate background and put a white fill layer between them. Create an Erase White Background Procedural Texture layer with Overlay blend mode and check Preserve Alpha.. Then create a second Erase White Background Procedural texture layer with Hard Mix blend mode and Preserve Alpha. Finally, use a white paint bush on the second background layer to eliminate remaining dark areas from perimeter.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I was not able to follow you exactly (especially with the preserve alpha you were referring to), however i was able to recreate the overlay and hardmix method i think :) Excellent tip!! I would personally use the linear light as instead of the hard mix as this would give smoother results... I was planning to do a follow up on this video and will demonstrate your tip too... Thank you very much for sharing!

This tutorial was very relevant to my interests ! I would love to see a couple of videos from you, editing bad quality images. Like the ones you do with an old phonecam or a webcam. I dont have a multi lense A.I.-supported smartphone and the pictures i take often look bad, so naturally i would like to learn how to improve them. Perhaps even with the Development Persona.

Such a useful thing, except I sadly didn't get the same results...I followed the steps but after putting in the formula, there was no change i.e the procedural texture filter didn't remove the white background. Do you know why this could be? Does it make a difference if you're starting with a jpeg image taken from a phone as opposed to a scan?

It might be that your document is not in rgb/8 color format?

Thank you for your reply. It may have been. I'll need to check. Does that mean this only works for rgb/8?
