A side by side comparison of the features offered by the Intrepid Mk IV and the Chroma Carbon Adventurer, both cameras I've bought over the last couple of years. Find out more about both here: chroma.camera/ intrepidcamera...

It's Chroma 100% for me ! Heard too many problems with Intrepidly and I like how Chroma is continually innovating with well thought out and different than others are doing products. It's going to be the Carbon Adventurer for me . Really look forward to it and will order after I got my Fuji 150mm lens. Thanks for the great instructional video. Had already subbed . Larry

Thank you for your excellent review on two cameras that are both made here in the UK, The Intrepid made large format photography affordable for many and are to be applauded for this, they even do 5x7 and 10x8. The Chroma has had a lot more thought, imho, put into it and is a truly modular camera as Steve intends to expand the accessories eg different backs including the option of increasing the format to 10x8.

I have the same lens metioned at the beginning (Schneider-Kreuznach Angulon 90 f6.8). In my Intrepid Mkiv it doesn't quite reach infinity (closed down and with forward tilt you get there, but that obviously doesn't work for every composition) so I got a recessed board, with which you can fold the camera and lens down, just as with the chroma. However, with a recessed board you need a flexible adaptor for the cable release, so it's all a little bit more laborious. Also, if you turn either the angulon 90 or the Intrepid pinhole around you can fold it with the camera, which is a nice little trick when you want the most compact of settings.

Great info...I was always wondering why I’m unable to get the Intrepid Mkiv to reach infinity w/ my Nikon SW 90.

It’s nice that there are options. And magnets I suppose.

I think I would rather spend the extra and be patient and wait for the chroma . I've spent so much on film cameras in the last 12 months . My bank balance is in shreds . This camera only costs as much as one of my hasselblad lenses Thanks for taking the time to share Liked and subscribed, have a look at my stuff , I'm a bit shy of cameras so tend to stick to lots of B roll and lots of pix !

The Intrepid wobbles even when nobody is touching it.

For the price of a chroma camera you can have 2 intrepid... and they will be delivered to you quicker, honnestly even if the intrepid build quality is not on par compare to chroma's camera I have so much difficulty to justify the price difference

The lead times for the Chroma are a deal killer for me - 4+ months :(

We saw Steve last weekend at the uk photoshow - he's now got a new member of staff (Dave!) so hopefully improved lead times aren't far off....

I blame the editor for deliberately (and maliciously) making the talent look gormless.
