Lars , I found out today, wear some kind of gloves when using the silky saw . I was cutting some very seasoned oak today and the saw just barely grazed my left index finger and it bit me pretty good, had to use some wound seal topical powder to stop the bleeding . I pit on a pair of leather gloves after that . The saw has earned my respect, I was very careful ,and am just posting this as a " one point lesson " - please guys use proper PPE " personal protective equipment : learn from my mistake. I'm 59 years old and a maintenance tech ,so I'm no stranger to tools .I should have known better . Thanks for the awesome work you put into your videos. They are the high point of my day !

After 30 years, using f180, and 20 other models. The f180 is the best, fastest, easiest, lightest, perfect balance, perfect grip- not too much, not too little. The blades come in 2 coarsenesses. Found them once for $22 and buying 10 at a time is not unusual.

I have a Silky Sugoi 360. It's my big blade. Great saw. I also take the Bahco Laplander. The Silky just tears wood up. The Bahco does well for it's size and smaller tasks. I do like it too. I also have a Gerber it came with two blades. The wood has to be really dry when using the Gerber or the teeth get packed. Much less energy and fuel (food) used with a saw. I always throw one in my pack.

During the spring/summer/autumn hiking around an Opinel saw has been enough, light, compact, good steel, wicked teeth but in winter you need more wood including for carving projects and you don't always want to hang around so your Silky looks like a good option.

I have a silky and still have my old bahco laplander. The silky is more expensive and more advanced in performance/teeth design. To me they are the best folding saws out there. However they are a pull saw design which some people have problems with and bent them(Lars's brother in law). My laplander is more forgiving and is a pull/push design overall it is slower in cutting.

Got the Ultra Accel, and it is built like a tank! Lost teeth cutting antler and bone (lesson learned: silky on wood, Laplander on bone, antler, etc.). On wood, it's amazing. I opted for the curved blade, and it's exceptional. It doesn't pop out of the kerf nearly as easily as the straight edge versions. I had a long silky blade that broke right at the base given to me, and I am going to drill holes in it, cut the spine parallel to the edge, and use it in my takedown buck saw. I figure with the blade tensioned and supported on both ends, it should be difficult to bend it. The advantages of a buck saw and a silky combined. If Silky ever got into making buck saw blades, I think they would effectively conquer the saw market.

Hi Larz , i was impressed by your previous video on the silky folding blade .That i bought my Big Boy ,medium teeth . It lives up to it name ,cuts really well without using a lot of force on the blade .Swinging an axe for fire wood is tiring when camping ,But no more since i have this saw .In Australia costs $ 144 good value for a saw you can depend on.

I think the Bahco has its place too. While I prefer the Silky for fire wood processing or shelter building (esp. the Big Boy), I prefer the Bahco for small bushcraft projects. The smaller finer teeth are good for small, precise cuts.

Just buy a spare Silky blade with fine teeth. It will be better and cheaper than a Laplander ;)

Look at lars going full AvE on the plastics lol. Great look at the saw, I may get into these guys for general sawing. They will be great for many application I would use a saw for, I'm no "survivalist" by any means, I just like being able to chop branches etc. without any fuss.

Hello Lars, I really like the 6TPI blade for our neck of the woods were the Hemlock, Spruce, Cedar, and Alder predominate. They are always very wet and the evergreens are full of pitch both features gum up a less coarse blade quickly and slow the cut. Where you are with dry wood a 9TPI must work well. Take care. Doug

Always a pleasure to watch your videos brother, and that little saw looks very nice. Looks like I might have to add yet another Silky to my collection. The smallest Silky I have at the moment is the Bigboy, and I need a smaller one to help remove the limbs off fallen trees. I use most of my fallen timber for firewood at the house, we have an insert w/blower attachment. The wood-burner insert was actually a huge reason I bought this property, it will heat my entire house minus the back bedroom. Thanks for another awesome video Lars, have a great weekend.

I just bought a non branded folding saw that looks very similar both in shape and size to that Silky F180, except from the folding mechanism tap that is made of metal and it doesn't have the ability to fold out in to different positions. I will try out my cheap saw first, and if it is not good enough, I will go for the Silky. I have my doubts about the blade quality, but you never know. It might surprise me.

Thanks for your thoughts and the demo of this more affordable option from Silky Lars. As it happens, I have literally just bought one of these! It all came about after i posted on IG about using a more aggressive blade on The Bahco 396 folding saws. I have been using a 7 TPI blade and find it far more efficient. It also doesn't have that stupid coating on the blades the Laplander versions have. Anyway, I fellow woodsman & greenwood worker had mentioned, he had similar experience with the Bahco blades, but had moved on to the Silky's. My colleagues and friends who are arborists also give me rave reviews, so I thought what the hell! I have been impressed with my Silky Takeru-Boy, so expect I'll appreciate the change. Hey Lars! I have the F180 since spring in professional use for bigger cuts in fruittree surgery. It's very good and the price is fair. For dry wood there are smaller teeth with a green or a blue handle. The red one is actually for living wood. 👍

A decent review Lars, I replaced my Bahco with a Fiskars saw which is also a pull cut saw, about a year ago, I wouldn't go back to a push/pull cut saw after using my Fiskars and now I will be purchasing one of these Silky F180's to try out, it has always been the price of Silky's that has held me back, after all it is just a folding saw, a good one but still very expensive, cheers and atb to you and your family 👍🏻🇬🇧

Do you have a preferred TPI for your saws or would you say blade length is more important. I mean blade length is obviously important for thicker trees, but for cutting branches does it matter to have a longer blade or coarser/finer teething or neither?
