As for ventilation we are adding the MaxxAir dome vent fan to our options list. We find it to be a great option that is very cost effective and is not mounted in the roof! Not yet on our website but will be in the next week, along with a some dedicated 12Volt options.

We are approaching 3 years of owning our 6x8 Venturist. It has been pulled over some pretty rough terrain in that time with zero issues. We spent a while looking at campers and in the end chose Runaway because of the no wood construction, one piece roof, the price point compared to other options and the fact that it is a family owned and operated business that was within 2 hours of our home. It’s also nice having a blank canvas that you can build out to your own specific needs. Another plus is the Runaway customers themselves. They are a great group of people and we have met some life long friends from attending the rally’s they have throughout the year thanks to the Runaway brand. It’s hard to put a dollar amount on the value of that. No regrets with our decision. We would 100% purchase again.

I have a 4x8 Venturist that I bought new in 2020. It's #47. They number the Venturists which is pretty cool. I have towed this in places with my Jeep that 90+% of other trailers simply could not do. It's amazing. I've customized the interior to my exact specs and change it as I feel I need to. I have 0 issues with it. I love it. It's simplicity also means no winterizing. I live in New England and my Venturist lives outdoors year round with no issues at all to day. It's just a great trailer for so many reasons!

For cold weather camping I recommend a great electric blanket, I find it under “Safe and warm technology” electric blanket that uses 12v safe power in the blanket that converts to 110v. It’s so comfy and we’ve used it in super cold weather in a trailer we rented on AirBNB-the trailer ran out of propane and the water froze, but under that blanket we were really comfy.

This company gets it. Thanks for covering their trailers. The addition of a exhaust fan as a option now is awesome. Hopefully it's not one of those really noisy pop up/out round exhaust fans. Also, the option of arctic tern windows is fantastic. Hopefully they are the awning type that would shed water better while open during rain. I wish the 6x8 options were 6.5x8 so I could gain more interior buildout room by orienting the bed side to side and fit comfortably because of my height. All you need to know about this company is how happy their customers are. They are also a warm, welcoming and supportive community to anyone with questions, concerns and build out help. Runaway builds great trailers, great relationships and it carries over to how their customers treat each other and outsiders. It's rare in this day and age in the buisness world to see a company that makes all this happen. It's no accident. Runaway wants this and as a company, made it happen. Thankyou Runaway and thankyou Drew.

Really like the minimalist campers & the price tags on these, makes it much more attainable for a huge amount of people. I think people often get caught up in trying to make camping like living at home as much as possible which I truly don’t understand, and this one seems to not do that.

We bought our highway RangeRunner in 2021 and have been very happy with it. Kept it simple with a 3 window setup. We use a tri-fold north-south queen bed. I'm 6,2 and needed all the leg room. I am planning to cut a hole in the sidewall and add a bathroom style push-out fan because I've found that simply cracking the windows doesn't always provide enough air circulation. We have the one piece roof and Runaway cautions you against cutting any hole in it and I didn't really want to do that anyway. I also built a battery setup so that I don't always have to be plugged in (runs everything but AC) and put a toolbox on the front. There's so much you can do with these and the customizing has been one of my favorite aspects of it.
@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks 11 ай бұрын
On our trailer that we were building, we also added a fan to the side wall. It makes a lot more sense. Your camper setup sounds great. The options for customization are pretty limitless with these types of campers.

I live about 20 miles from their Summerfield location. Stopped there to look at them once and it happened to be the weekend of their rally so drove through to look at the various setups(until security told us we couldn't be there lol). I really don't want to tow but if I decide to go the trailer route the Range Runner would be the one for me. What I like more than anything is the blank slate inside that allows you to set it up as you like. What it comes down to is I want a Toyota hybrid vehicle for the fuel economy and the reliability. Will either be this or a Moonlander topper on a small hybrid pickup(my preference). The Moonlander turns a truck bed into the best aspects of a small trailer without the towing, the setup, maintenance, tags, insurance. If I can't find the right hybrid pickup(Ford F-150 too expensive) will settle for a good used Honda Ridgeline. It's wide enough to give an 82" sleeping platform width wise and it's hard to beat its in bed floor trunk space. Can get an Ecoflow portable air conditioner that runs on a battery that can be charged with solar. The a/c in the Runaway needs shore power or a generator and that's problematic. What I'm hoping for is a hybrid pickup with a midgate that'll allow the climate control to come back into the Moonlander topper. There's also these hoses called noggles that you can get that attach to a/c vents to run cool air to the back of the cab. You can get them up to 10' long so could run a couple through a rear cab pass through window and through Moonlander passthrough into the bed area. The Moonlander is 31" high inside plus the height of the truck bed sidewalls so a bit more interior height to work with. It's super strong and you won't be dealing with the forces that wear on a trailer with regular towing. But if I end up buying a Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid then the Runaway, or very possibly the Road Toad, is the way to go. I like very much the electrical package you can get with the Road Toad.

My husband and i bought a Runaway Rouser in Nov of 2023 from a distributor in PA XYZ Camping. The Rouser is the stand up model. We are currently building it out this winter to be used for this year's camping season. Because Runaway does not have kitchens in their trailers we will most likely be building a pull out kitchen in the back of our Nissan Frontier. Also we wanted to be able to build it indoors in our barn where we had heat for the winter because we live in Western NY, so we put some 8 inch tire rims on the trailer and it lowered it enough to get it inside a regular height garage door. We plan on running our trailer this season at NY Campgrounds and making any changes to things so we can take it out West next year.

Neat to hear you are able to get that taller trailer inside your garage! The winter project sounds great. Brings back memories of when we remodeled our Shasta Compact. Your pull out kitchen sounds like a great idea as well. I wonder if folks are making models with legs that can drop down for different uses. It would be fun to have the ability to place the SUV kitchen in diffferent areas of the campsite if needed.

Runaway doesn’t offer a 5 foot wide trailer which is a problem. When l was shopping for an off road trailer to tow behind my 2 door Jeep Wrangler l was looking at the Venturist. The 4x8 is too small and the 6x8 would have been wider than my Jeep and too wide for many trails l drive on. I got a Tiny Camper 5x8 Kong which has the Timbren suspension and they matched the tires on my trailer to my Jeep’s tires, negating the need for a spare for the trailer. After taking my Jeep and trailer down trails in the desert and the woods l am SO glad l didn’t get a 6 foot wide trailer! I can’t tell you how many times l have been on a narrow trail and had to pull over to let an oncoming vehicle pass and that extra foot would have been a real problem!

We bought Our Little Runaway from Jack and his family in Arizona, and they were absolutely amazing throughout the entire process. Living in California, they were the closest dealer to us, and they helped us with our Runaway dream! The reasons we went with Runaway were for their affordability, lightweight to size ratio and the blank slate they offer which is very appealing to a lot of people who don't need or want all the bells and whistles that add on to the cost. We've built ours to our liking with solar for offgrid capabilities and an outdoor shower option, to name a few. Shoutout to Jack and Katie!

I’ve had my Runaway Coolcamp for almost three years. I purchased it from Runaway campers Arizona. I camp once a month, over 10000 miles and 5 states. And I tow it with a 2016 KIA Soul. I love it! Only issues I’ve had with it is the license plate placement and set up and the keys for the doors. Each door has a separate key. Other than that, I love my little trailer and I’ll be going to my third rally in May.
@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks 11 ай бұрын
The separate keyed doors gave me a little laugh. My grip with small camper trailers is how little key fobs are out there. I carry around 3 little purple keys. And I kid you not, I probably should not be saying this on here, those three keys can get me into 99% of small camper trailers on the road. And this includes all those $30K-$40k models. Well, all of them without electronic keypads. What is the rally you are attending in May?

Well runaway campers are NOT RVs as the founder would put it. It's intended to replace tent camping! I think they're expecting you to start a fire outdoors with some rocks and your own cooking pan/pot 🍳 🔥 🏕️ it's for camping!! Besides galleys take up soo much precious limited room space in an already tiny camper and those galleys would likely drive up the cost for those who are just looking for a tent replacement that gets you off the hard cold wet dusty ground. Besides some owners typically build their own galley anyway. A custom galley you build yourself in your style is probably gonna be better anyway than buying one already made for you.

@AlFonso-p6p a minimalist camper, should not be priced as a full featured camper. For the price they are asking, it should be decidedly better optioned. You do not pay Ford Mustang GT money for a Ford Fiesta. The thumbnail says sub 10k. The price as shown is 19 and change. At the 9.02 mark, it is mentioned about how the competition starts at 24k. And how you can buy 2 of these for that. As he is standing NEXT to the pricing showing what it really costs. Which again is NOT sub 10k. Which is why I noted for 20k it should have things like a galley.

Woohoo, you finally did a Runaway video! Thank you! We absolutely love our Rangerunner! We’re going into our third season with it, we have the composite. The lightweight construction means I lose no mpg on my v6 Frontier pulling it, yet the axle can be loaded up to 3500#. I’m always having to add weight in fact do it won’t bounce, it’s so light. But we really enjoy the bed space. Oriented north to south, we have a traditional queen size bed with space left over on the sides. That and the storage space in front cannot be beat in any other tear or square out there. As well as the price! Can’t say I’ve been missing the vent fan we had in our previous camper though, but some may consider this a con. With three windows and two doors, moisture doesn’t hang out long. We typically don’t boondock however, and have two rechargeable fans if we do and those have proven to work pretty well in combo with open windows. I just look at it like tent camping in a hard sided tent lol. All the perks and none of the setup. Just park and camp 😊 Thanks again for the review! Take care, hopefully your family is doing well!

It looks to me like there would be a significant amount of insulation value just from the construction and materials of the walls. Having two layers of honeycomb, not just one, should go a long way toward keeping it comfortable inside. The other thing is that I often don't like the location of factory roof vents, and being able to install one (or more) where I want it is a plus.

You are exactly right. In the walkthrough Jack mentioned the thermal break and all the benefits. To us, this would be more than enough insulation. We have done tons of winter camping in Alaska in trailers with 0 insulation. And we were completely fine. However, I am starting to notice a huge benefit during the summer months when using campers with insulation. And yes, good point on vent locations.

I've had three different Runaway models as I love the company and the product. I went from the Rangerunner to the Cool Camp to the Rouser. My favorite is the Rangerunner and I'd give about anything to have my RR back...we made it so comfy and cute. I am very tempted to buy another RR....they are so well made and very affordable. Thanks for the vid! 🙂

@@PlayingwithSticks I changed tow vehicles and, with the shorter profile, I felt the Rouser had too much drag. It pulled fine with the taller vehicle I had, though. The beauty for me about the Runaways is the blank slate. Each model is highly customizable and so much fun to be creative with. As a small trailer enthusiast (I've had six over the years!) if I decide to get another camper it will def be the RR. 🙂

Thank you for your video, the trailer called rouser still cost $9220, from its spec I found it is just a 6x8 boxy container with doors. - Interior: 70.5"W x 94.5"L x 5'6"-5,10"H - Overall Dimensions 11'4"L x 7'3"H x 94" that's like $CAD 12000, or just say USD$9000, still quite a bit of money for what it is. And with $CAD 12000, or just say USD$9000 I can get some 3 year old popup tent camper quite decent. I still don't get hard-body panel make it so expensive, given the size of this small trailer, the popup camper maybe have more hard-side wall than this, LOL. and btw I never seen used tear drop for sale in volume like popop camper, they are all like $20k start new ..... .

Definitely an awesome product! We have a competitors trailer and are totally happy. I'm not sure why I hear so many negatives on wood construction. We beat the crap out of our trailer and in two years have had no issues. I'll give a little room there for criticism as we do live in the southwest and rarely deal with the elements like some of the rest of the country. My main con for these are how sterile the interior feels, I love the feel of our little off road cabin. We also camp exclusively off grid so the lack of a MaxFan is a huge deal for us. For retirees who are attracted to the weight and size of this camper, they may want to think about blunting or rounding some of the sharp corners on this model. I am looking at options for a trailer to tow behind my Jeep to Tuktoyuktuk and every one has requirements for 120v "goodies". I would like something like this with a "massive" watertank (and sink, hand-pump), a built-in fueling station, a port for a diesel-heater, built-in communications capabilities (HAM radio antenna and mounting for a radio of the users choice) and fitted for sleeping in a hammock instead of on an air-mattress on a "hard floor". Don't need (nor want) microwave, air-conditioning, generators (but solar-ready would be nice), three battery setups (each battery running isolated circuits). Is this something that RunAway Campers would build, or, should I just make it up myself?

Yes. We hit the thermal break language a couple of times. So you are absolutely right this would have an insulating value. Technically I can barely pull the Taxa with my Wrangler, but its right at the limit so If you have anything in it your over the rated towing capacity of the 392. These guys seem to have a good balance of features and utility without the stupid price tags. I agree with you. I think the overpriced camper market is cooling off a bit as well. I think we will continue to see many of the top dollar camper companies go under within the next year or two. Some of the pillars in this top dollar community will be able to weather the storm and capture the shrinking market as the other companies leave. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I never want to see a small camper manufacturer go out of business. But, on the other hand I think pricing and build concepts were starting to get a bit out of hand. I believe I have mentioned this to you before, but like you we have often found the need for two trailers. We always have one 13' trailer in the yard and the teardrop in the garage.
