I started using the The Ordinary’s Advanced Retinoid 2% and so far so good. This is my first time introducing retinoids in my routine and I am seeing results. Albeit, I only experienced flakiness like a few days but I just slapped on ultra rich moisturizer in the days I am not using the retinoids. And I have to thank you for giving me the courage to take the plunge on trying retinoids because at first, I was really hesitant because I don’t have the knowledge. But because of you I finally did it. Thanks, Renee! 🙏🏼 More reviews soon. Love lots! ❤️😍😘

I really look forward to your videos! I’ve been using RetinA (w OBAGI) for over 2 years and it does a great job, but it was a pain the first 6 months of using it. I was peeling a lot but after that hump my skin has never been better and I’m so happy w the results. Now I’m just on maintenance. You’re so right that what works for one person may not be the same for another. This works for me and whenever I start peeling I know brand new skin will emerge. With that said, I’ve incorporated what I’ve learned from you w my OBAGI routine and it has helped tremendously w dryness and especially irritation. I sandwich #3 and #5/retinA between toner/serums and lotions/creams. Have a great weekend.

I love all your videos! I've read quite a few clinical studies about niacinamide and how it helps improve skin barrier function and increases patient compliance with all vitamin A topicals because it reduces skin peeling and redness when applied at night, before vitamin A. Also, applying AHAs during the day help vitamin A reach deeper into skin at night, which is a good thing once your skin has adjusted to nightly use of vitamin A. It took me a long time to understand that goal #1 is adjusting to retinoid use every night. That lead me to a routine very close to this one, except I stopped acids (even vitamin C) for 6 weeks or so. This information was the secret for my skin to adjust to using rx retinoid every night with 0 irritation. I spent over a year prior trying to apply nightly with 0 success at getting above 3x a week. Hope this info helps others trying to add in the retinoid family!

I read you blog post on your journey with Retinol. I use prescription strength retinA and I do recommend it greatly! I know you have had bad experiences in the past. My advice is to use it 1x a week for month, then 2x a week for month and just slowly build up so you aren’t burning your face off(literally *yikes). It truly is a great product once your skin acclamates to it.

What is retinol and why we use it?
@rachel32977 жыл бұрын
Vanessa - thanks for asking, firstly, I am 51 and skin health has been my passion since I was a young teenager. I am using Tretinoin 0.05% daily in the evening. At first it just really tingled on the skin and I didn’t see any results, I guess I wanted to see things immediately but after about 3 months I noticed that my skin looked a lot more ‘refined’, smoother and more luminous. It is definitely a product to stick with and use long term. Where I purchase mine, the young girls there all use it ( I am in Australia). Absolutely give it a go and stick with it, remember though that sunscreen is an absolute must when using retinol, I use Asian sunblocks as I find they are a superior product and makeup sits nicely on top of them. Good luck xoxox

I am always surprised when people mention that they love 'The Face Shop Rice Water Cleansing Oil'. I used the 'light' version which caused me to have the biggest breakout of my life even worse than puberty. Mind you I don't have acne prone/sensitive skin at all. I would say I have pretty tough skin which only gets the occasional pimple. This is the single product out of all the products I have used that has ever broken me out. I put this down to one ingredient which is isopropyl myristate. This is also in the 'rich' version. This is why I'm wary of trying the illi cleansing Oil' which is also highly raved about as it has isopropyl palmitate. I am not sure if those two ingredients are related but they seem to be under the same family. So people beware when buying these products if you are sensitive to isopropyl ingredients.

Obsessing over your channel and binge watching everything you have. Have you done any breakdowns of your entire weekly routine? Like which days you use acids, which days you use retinols, what you use every day etc etc? I’m trying to fine tune my own routine and I’m having information overload of what’s too much what’s too little and what should or shouldn’t be mixed with what. So I feel like a breakdown of what you do in a week would be so helpful with the way you are so good at explaining things!

I love this video. Please make this a regular series for other seasons as well! Quick question: You mentioned you preferred using cotton pads for acids because you want to make sure you have an even application. Does that concern extend to acids that come in small bottles as well? (Eg. the ordinary's lactic acid or dr. wu's mandelic acid.) If not, why not?
@skinsciencebymira7 жыл бұрын
My understanding was that there's 3 types of ingredients: hydrating, moisturizing, and occlusives. Hydrating products provide hydration and draw water to the skin. Moisturizing ingredients are emollients which soften the skin. And occlusives seal everything in. Not all oils are occlusive and oils that are not should be used before moisturizers in your routine.

Actually it's best to apply retinols, tretinoins, directly first on skin then leave time to absorb like 15 mins then layer on whatever else its most effective when put directly on skin. I have tested it with moisturizing and serums etc. then apply retinol and noticed and then for a while done the opposite and apply retinol first and the results were WAY BETTER and effective. The retinol was working better when applied firs, my skin was brighter, smoother and hyper pigmentation was minimized significantly. My dermatologist also confirmed, the efficiency of the retinol works best when applied first then layering other products after absorption of the retinol.

Dear Renee. I've been using Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane and Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion alternately, according whether I feel like my skin needs the richness of squalane or not. Not been having any problems and feel that I'm ready to take this journey to TO Retinols (starting from 0.2) I'll appreciate your answer to the following: 1. I've been using only the derivatives of vitamin C: Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% and Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F alternately - on mornings, and on evenings alternate between Retinoids and Lactic Acid 5% + HA. In your opinion, should I continue applying them after switching to Retinol? 2. When completely adjusted to Retinol, have you dropped entirely using LA 5% or do you recommend to use it on alternate nights while not applying Retinol? I've posted this query on your blog, but it's been waiting for moderation, so I am trying here, may be it will be faster. Thank you in advance.
