I have Lowell and wasn't looking for lights, but on Black Friday these popped up. I was like, "Why not?" My Lowells are better but old with no remote nor battery slot. Plus, they're a pain to set up. Man was this a win!! Days later, this set went up $200 more than what I paid for it. I've already benefitted because I needed to shoot something real quick and was able to do so with one GVM panel. Hassle-free.

I have couple GVM bi-color panels with stands, absolutely love them. They've exceeded my expectations, and I haven't had single issue with them. They have 1% increment steps, and it's nice and smooth, and I'm running off the sony batteries, so no power cable problems. Love the little remote they came with too. So quick question Gerald, if you were to spend the $240 on a key light, would you get this, or the 3 pack, non-rgb with stands for $279 and have more light? My new home studio will just be 9' x 11', so I'm thinking one would be enough.
@geraldundone5 жыл бұрын
If I was just looking for a single light as a key light and had no intention of using RGB, I'd probably go with a Falcon Eyes similar to what I covered in a previous video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5a7pWejj9xpgc0. Either the 28 or 48. It's a bit cheaper and is diffused. If you could take advantage of the RGB, though, then I'd definitely get the GVM-50RS. Multiple lights is nice if you plan on doing a 3-point lighting setup or want more flexibility, but they aren't my favourite lights for a straight up key.

Hi Gerald. Just letting you know I use these exact same lights and I got the kit with the remote control with it. The remote does allow you to control them independently so you can have different intensities in each head (even in a master and slave scenario). In addition to that you can assign heads to different groups giving you event more separation and control. So for example, you could say put head 1 in group 1 at 100% brightness and head 2 in group 2 at 50% brightness defining a scene. One annoying thing is when you cycle through the colour spectrum, they loose some intensity around the middle setting as the LED’s cycle from tungsten to daylight.
@geraldundone5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Arthur. Is that only possible with the remote?

LEDs get undone! Awesome review, it made me order a set of these. I've been looking for some led panels for some time now to act as fill lights or hair lights. But them having RGB gives them a whole other dimension of usage in adding color to backgrounds or subjects. Stoked to go out and use them! Thanks for the recommendation Gerald!

Mr. Undone, Thanks, as always, for the FANTASTIC video!! Since Sweetie & I only vlog from Bed [since 2007] we are hot and bothered about these exciting inexpensive GVM 50RS RGB LED lights. We were on Amazon about to pull the trigger [via your affiliate links, of course]. Then I noticed GVM has TWO BRAND NEW RGB 2 lights kits at about this price… But we can’t make ANY sense about how they compare to the 50RS you revived. It SEEMS the R50R288 has FEWER lights but better diffusion, but MAY be better [or worse] and the [almost same price] GVM 1000D MAY have many more lights for same price… but OLDER diffusion. We are SOOOOO confused and stuck in bed poorly lit afraid too make the WRONG $400-$500 purchase. Has GVM hooked you top with these 2 new models? Can you bring your brilliance to compare the 3 models? No one can do what you do. And LV and I are REALLY eager to add some more color to our Bed Vlogs… We really need your help. Please, pretty please with Xmas Candy canes on top!!! - Zork & Sweetie [Bed Vlogging since 2017 with bad lighting ]

Can I use only 1 GVM RGB Video Light as the backlight, and use 2 dimmable bicolor 660 LED lights as the key & filler lights on the foreground and still get a color gradient effect? And if I want to clash lights, do I need to have 2 RGB backlights, and 2 dimmable bicolor led lights for key & filler light (4 lights in total) or would it suffice to have 1 bicolor key light and 2 RGB backlights (3 lights in total)? Thanks, Gerald, great review! I just bought a 2-pack of the non-RGB versions and like them (great price). They have the same cord issue with bent prong, lol, but easy to bend straight and I slapped a couple rubber bands on the light stand for the power brick which at least is pretty light weight. Would love the RGB version though, as the first thing I did was put a gel on there which was a pain to cut to size and also lowered the brightness of this not-super-bright light quite a bit.

This is my favorite light I own from GVM. The only issue I have is that the batteries drain when they are attached even when it’s turned off. Same thing with my GVM 10s. And the other one is that the lowest brightness still starts off very bright- which you can kinda fix with the barn doors, but overall, it’s an excellent product for the price and my go-to for things like gym motto videos and stuff like that

@ChaseChronicles5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for another great gem, Gerald! One question: the GVM product page claims the max output of this panel to be 18500lux @0.5m, which means it beats out the Apurture 120D (14000lux @0.5M) in terms of brightness. I find this a little hard to believe, can you confirm or deny this claim? If so, you might have just introduced to me the portable alternative to the 120D that I've been searching for.

Yeah, I don't think that's right either. For me it measured around 7500lux at 0.5m.

@@ChaseChronicles Hi Gerald is that 7500 lux @ 0.5m in tungsten/daylight mode? Or RGB mode? Just wondering if the light suffers from the issue of tungsten/daylight being bright but RGB taking a hit in power.

AC DC adapters always have a short lead on the DC side : it's lower voltage, and DC, therefore wire losses will be greater. Same reason the power grid uses very high voltages. You can make a longer low voltage cable, it's just going to take fatter cable with more copper and that sh*t is expensive. And bulky.
