This battle really happened pretty much as depicted, Mount Ormel/Hill 262. By August 20 out of a force of 1500 the Poles had 110 able-bodied men left, 50 bullets per gun and 5 shell for each tank. They were fully expecting to die that day before the Canadian relieved them the next day. The Poles really gave everything they had.

The sad part about Major Jackowicz is that he probably isn't going home soon, if ever. Since Poland fell to communism and became a Soviet satellite state, most of the of the soldiers from the Polish Army in the West ended up living in Britain.

And also don’t doubt some ended up staying in France and made it their new home too. And a lot also immigrated to the United States to New York City, Philadelphia and a lot around in New Jersey especially near New York City and Philadelphia, and Baltimore, Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, etcetera. Basically the cities and states where they have a great percentage of Polish immigration. Same with Germans and even Russians that fled their nations during the war to escape the Nazis.

Want this mission to be even sadder? Remember that after the war Poland was occupied by the Soviet Union for almost 50 years, so the surviving Polish troops will return home to find their nation still under the boot of a conquering force, despite having sacrificed so much to liberate not just their nation, but the rest of Europe as well.

I find it convenient that only 85,000 polish troops escaped from the joint Soviet-German invasion, had to remake their military, and still kept fighting the Germans in France, hundreds of miles from home. A "minority" story done right, Battlefield V should have taken notes.

Alot of exiled countries that escaped nazi occupied territories , made it to britain and were given British & american weapons and uniforms so they could live to fight another day, the french on D-Day wore UK uniforms too and trhe Poles and Canadians and other european countries , the same with weaponry too, and i'm sure in RL that many soldiers did end up using captured equipment that they picked up off the battlefield.
