Here's a few classic thrills that should be added for the future: Backdraft, Aliens, Cape Fear (1991), The Departed, No Country For Old Men, The Usual Suspects, Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR, The Dark Knight, Basic Instinct, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Saw, Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, True Grit (2010), The Town, Inception, Single White Female, Seven, The Hurt Locker and possibly The Hunger Games. Casablanca is a great movie, but is it really as thrilling as, say, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which doesn't even appear on this list?

Casablanca IS thrilling. Put yourself in Laszlo''s shoes if you can. You're a Czech Resistance leader and you're on the run from the Nazis for inciting a revolt against them. You take off with your wife and find a trustworthy source in the form of your wife's ex-lover. She convinces him to stop moping about and help you escape back to America where you'd be safe. He smuggles you and your wife on-board and the Nazis attempt to abort the takeoff but fail. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is just horror. Thrillers cannot be compared to horror, as they're both a genre of their own. Thrillers is about keeping you on the edge of your seat, not just horror films.

Avatar not only had a weak story but with poorly made CGI what made the everything look like it was crunched n and did not match the flow of the people... And The Dark Knight, Inception, The Usual Suspects, or Backdraft dont go on the list because they lack an origanal concept of excitement i mean The Usual Suspects is redundant compared to Chinotown.

I used to watch the AFI lists every single year. However, I always thought this was the weakest of all their lists, mostly because they have a poor definition of what "thriller" means. The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, and 2001 really shouldn't be on this list at all.

I think you confuse thrillers with horror. Thrillers is not just about horror, it’s about keeping you on the edge of your seat, especially for non-horror action films. I’ve seen all three of those movies you mentioned and I can see them being on the thrills list: The Wizard of Oz for the Wicked Witch of the West’s relentless and aggressive pursuit on Dorothy to get the ruby slippers back and the flying monkeys. Casablanca for the fact that Rick Blaine has to help the husband of her ex-lover be smuggled onto an airplane heading back to America to escape from the Nazis during the onslaught of the North African theater of World War II. And 2001 for the HAL 9000, a robotic computer on-board Discovery One and how he kills several members of the crew. Not to mention, his soothing, creepy voice could give you nightmares.

2001: A Space Odyssey IMO was a thriller because of the breathing sound effect and the scene where HAL kills the other astronauts
