The draft has been broken for a while, in the last 3 drafts the best player in the draft has gone to a high ranking team: Ugle-Hagan, Daicos, Ashcroft.

Collingwood have been a top 8 side for most of the last 20 years, we have not got many father son recruits that are top picks. Bulldogs have, yet they have been very up amd down.

While I'd like to see WC pick him on principal and maintain the integrity of the draft, I think their rebuild needs to be so deep that they're much better off trading pick 1 for as many firsts and future firsts as they can get their hands on. I guess it depends on who else they want to target in the draft and how good a price they can get for the pick.
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 Жыл бұрын
If we can get 3 first round picks (including 2 top 10 picks) then they should go for it. But if the deal isn't there then keep the best player. Its just that we need a lot of kids through the system. I'd try to go hard at the draft this year with 8 recruits, including 5 in the top 30. But some reckon the Eagles should spread it out over 3 years to target a good West Aussie, father son or academy player in the future.

Agreed about Kane Cornes. It was a pretty disgraceful comment for someone in his position. If this sort of thing becomes widely acceptable, where do we draw the line? Would it be ok for the other prospective top 10 picks to say no to WC too? We really need to work hard to protect whatever integrity the draft has left

thanks for your content, love your analysis!! kane cornes has lots of history being disrespecful, disgraceful, towards anyone who isn't port adealaide!! and the more you don't listen to him the less respect he gets, short term memory loss on port in recent history. every club goes thru the down cycle, it is the designed outcome of the draft system. the eagles have just had unprecedented injuries to their senior and top end talent, take 10-15 of the best players out of any team and see what results happen. no excuses though west coast will sort thru the injury crisis and employ world leaders in their program as they have done before, wc have a big hole in their 22-26 yo playing group with several underperforming draftees, select as many top end kids you can thru draft , keep top end older players for experience for next 2-3 yrs and draft in top end free agents in 2-3 yrs, finals in 5 yrs!!

The Harley Reid rumour has been debunked, he, his coach, his manager have all said he’s happy to go to West Coast. And listening to Rohan O’Brien, it sounds like they’re wanting to draft him if they have pick #1. Sam McClure lied and backpedaled on Footy Classified, then Jon Ralph just wrote an article in the Herald Sun that debunked McClure. Reid will be an Eagle if WC have pick 1

To be honest West Coast need a few very good players not just one . West coast should trade the number one pick for a few top ten picks . Melbourne for example will probably have pick 4 and pick 14 . If I was West Coast I’d say to the Dees if you can trade the pick 14 up to something closer to a top 8 pick and maybe a second round pick we will do the deal .

We can keep Barras and still get Curtin. Barrass won't go anywhere. Unfortunately Hedwards and McGovern are so injury prone that getting rid of Barrass would open the flood gates to massive losses. Actually Barrass would only go if offered a 5 year deal on big money by Sydney. What could happen is that Eagles pay his salary, then Sydney top it up even more. Barrass would then be the most highly paid defender in the game. Hopefully we'd get a few early picks from it. But realistically why would he leave?

Goodwin never said he wanted to play Grundy as a forward at AFL level. Just wanted him to improve his forward craft so he has more impact while he rests there 50% of the time. Clarified that in his presser yesterday. (Though didn't need clarification if you watched the first presser the media were reporting on)

Its just a made up story re Harley Reid. I don't think we should necessarily even go for him. He's a mature boy and won't necessarily out muscle everyone at AFL level. Only disadvantage with these stories is that it undermine Eagles effort to trade one draft pick for multiple draft picks. I consider it a super draft so there is a lot of talent in top end.

Refusing to go to West Coast would be a silly move, they are one of the best resourced clubs around, the supporters show up win lose or draw and they have the habbit of winning flags at regular intervals when they are "up" You can argue whether that has any bearing on the future but some clubs win flags others don't.
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 Жыл бұрын
Resourcing doesn't mean much now because of the soft salary cap. So we're just paying normal footy dept money out really, to avoid us paying a soft salary cap tax. So it will probably stop us from rebounding up the ladder as quickly as previously. Remember in the past we paid big money to the likes of Daniher Walsh Burns etc... even Voss got a monster offer as assistant before he went to Brisbane as coach.
@spindoctor6385
@spindoctor6385 Жыл бұрын
@@BDub2024 I think West Coast should make more use of their financial strength. Break the soft cap, hire another two assistant coaches for a three - four year period, accept the fine and see if it yeilds positive results. I am surprises no club has done it yet.

Draft picks choosing destination isn’t new, behind closed doors it is painfully obvious this has occurred in the past with players like Nic Naitanui. Last I heard Geelong was the destination for Doedee too. (He’s from Geelong area). I personally don’t believe the Bailey Smith rumor to Geelong and think it was used to force Parish to indicate his intentions.
@jaredburgess8381
@jaredburgess8381 Жыл бұрын
The issue with Geelong is that you can buy a specky waterfront/beach home for less than a million bucks so their salaries all go a lot further than anywhere nice in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. I'm less aware of Adelaide real estate so I won't try and bullshit but I reckon they'd be less pricey, too, given that Rankine is Adelaide Crows' most highly paid player at $800K. Geelong, if they were smart (and they are) would show players what their salaries can actually purchase when they pitch to them. This is why they have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of high-end talent at their club. Kinda pisses me off but whatever...

As an outsider looking at the Eagles, I'd seriously consider swapping pick 1 (and maybe pick 19) for 3 top 15 picks. Gives them the best chance to get 3 good kids for the future or 2 and use 1 top 15 pick for a mature experienced player

What I reckon should happen the afl should get rid of academy’s saying this cause SA we have an academy unlike Victoria we don’t have FirstChoice to SA talent.. secondly when it comes to father son like discos, Ashcroft etc if the club wants keep there father / son player they must give up there first round picks not just round 5, 6, 7 picks that’s how the afl is so Lope-sided. Also the afl should stop clubs like Geelong, Richmond etc stretching out contracts to fit more high quality players under contract

WCE will likely be top 4 in a few years, you have a lot of youth that are getting games in the AFL and they will have gelled by then. WCE are a big club, I don't see why young prospects would not want to go to West Coast. I think WCE will become a destination club.

Hawks might try to deal with the Eagles for Reid. Pick 3 plus Granger Barass and Brockman. Maybe another pick. Two W.A boys that are both young. Reports have suggested that Brockman may ask to go home ay the end of the year and the Eagles were wanting him in his draft year. Denver pick 6 is another that may want to play consiatent footy. Both would help the Eagles rebuild for the next few years.

I reckon Sheed and Gaff will probably move on. Difficult for Yeo now do to recurring leg issues (probably due to pounding running style). Darling could also be traded elsewhere if he wants to play for 2 more years. Freo would have really benefited from Harley Reid as he is a big bodied midfielder, but they gave draft picks away. Melb will go after him for sure and they have at least 2 first round picks. Eagles would benefit from having another ruckman with experience. Doesn't have to be a star. It will just help our youngsters out and allow a break at times. There are a few youngsters that the EAgles really need to step up. Including Bazzo HEdwards Maric JWilliams. If those kids can improve then it takes the pressure off trading for key position. We can choose the best player rather than being desperate in choosing for a position.
