I've ordered 4 guitars from Thomann over the last year (two orders of 2 guitars each). While the outer box looked like it went through a war, the inner boxes and the guitars themselves were undamaged. Thomann's packing is very good; there's enough bubble wrap and air pillows to safely cushion the instruments.

I live in Germany and though I don't own an HB I bought so many guitars (my Gibson LP, my Traveller, the Taylor GS Mini), and gears from Thomann. Their service is top. Never had packaging issues. When I bought the Taylor GS Mini I called them as there was a 2 week waiting period, while another shop had the guitar in stock. I asked Thomann if I could get get an additional discount for the waiting ( and because I bought so much stuff from them). I had to wait on the phone for 2 minutes and then they agreed on the discount and booked my order. The guitar actually showed up at my door within 1 week. I wasn't even expecting it! If you live in Europe you should visit their shop. It is a lifetime experience.

I've bought serveral things from them too, and like you, never had any issues whatsoever. The only time a shipment was delayed was due to a trucker strike, and you can't blame Thomann for that. Add to that that their shipment fees are VERY modest, and you have a winner in my book.

I think the damaged package issue is mostly on the side of the carriers. I have nothing but good experiences with their packaging. They always pack mine to the brim with padding. I'm from the Netherlands though, so that;s right next to Germany. No airplanes needed.
@tolvajakos
@tolvajakos 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed, however, I think what people mean is that anticipating the hardships the package will go through, they should go with some more solid/sturdy packaging. But I think they just made a decision to see if they get a lot of complaints or not, and if not, it is worth more for them to exchange a couple of broken products than to pour more money into packaging for every single one of them. Of course this is not great for the guy that receives a broken product and has to go through returning it, nor for the environment, but from money point of view it does make sense. Btw, I also live in Europe, and I have received multiple chewed-up boxes from Thomann (once even the factory box of the product was broken), but never ever got a faulty product. So it does seem to work.

Phillip, you wanted feedback on their shipping packing quality, so here goes. Got this same guitar yesterday (thanks for the review!) and it arrived in perfect shape. Double boxed with a very heavy gauge corrugated rectangular outer box, 16 feet of airbag packing padding protecting the normal corrugated Thomann inner box which had it's own support for the neck and the usual foam bag. Not a scratch on the guitar and no real damage to the packaging. Great little guitar !

Thanks for the review. I've purchased 6 Harley Benton's, 5 for me and on for a friend. Sometimes shipping and the boxes getting beat up are an issue. Remember, they are coming from half way around the world! One thing I've learned is that Thomann always listens to me and has gone above and beyond regarding backing their products. I bought a kit SG guitar and the tuners were unusable. They gave me credit to purchase tuners that worked. I currently have a HBO 850 acoustic and Santos classical, on the acoustic side of things and absolutely love them. They punch way above their weights. Thomann also has plenty of all solid wood acoustics ranging from about $110.00 for a classical and acoustics with all solid wood for great prices. It would be nice to see a blind test comparing the Thomann all solids with other name brands. I think most of carry some bias as soon as we see a headstock or price tag. Know your Thomann!

It does look and sound like a great guitar for the money. I do suspect; however, that when they send instruments out to be reviewed, they probably put more effort into setting them up. Not sure how to get around that for apples to apples comparisons of their normal stock. I do like that Jonathan Koh(talented musician) buys the instruments he reviews, or reviews instruments purchased by friends. Thanks for sharing Phillip. Love your channel!!!!!!!

Thomann's customer service is nothing short of excellent. I ordered a Victory V30 mkii head and V212VV matching cab 2 months ago. The cab had some small dents on the front corners. I was pissed, but they credited me the difference as if it was a bstock item. In the end I was very happy with them. Besides I saved over $900 buying from Thomann in Germany compared to buying from a dealer here in the States. The amp head was packaged in an additional shipping box around the Victory packaging. The 212 cabinet was shipped in the original victory packaging which would have been fine shipping within the same country. But going through customs was where the packaging didn't hold up. I will buy from them again in a heartbeat.

I bought the very cheapest Harley Benton acoustic guitar for a daft project, and found it very reasonably good. I changed the strings which improved it noticeably, smoothed a few fret ends and tuned it - the set up and action was fairly good out of the box. A tuner change may also improve it, BUT it would be good to learn on straight out of the box. BTW the price was £51.

Thomann took a fair amount off the insanely low price already and I fixed it. I should point out Shipping for 1 or 3 is exactly the same and when Thomann Ships 3 the packaging is far better. For the Packaging: In Germany they are so careful with the Mail that the packaging is well suited for it's purpose. But i can see the problem with shipping outside of Germany, never thought they'll use the same package for shipping to the USA. Having worked for those package carriers in germany I can't really agree that they are more careful in germany than any other place in the world ... I got a Harley Benton shipped to Switzerland with an outer box that would actually hold two of those small boxes even with some padding. It was for a more expensive electric (Fusion 2 was the model iirc) though, so my guess is it depends on the price, or just talking to a salesperson ...

Yeah I can't see it being that big of a difference. Prove me wrong....
@Xaltar_
@Xaltar_ 5 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-ef2sx Materials and craftsmanship make a much larger difference with acoustic instruments, even something as seemingly insignificant as the glues used can make a large tonal difference. All this talk about tone wood in electric guitars started with acoustic instruments where it actually does make a difference, though it's more about density, resonance and mass than it is about specific species of wood. When it comes to solid body electrics however, it's more the pickups and setup than anything else. I have had my hands on a lot of acoustics over the years and you can instantly tell the difference between a mass produced, budget oriented instrument and even a mid range players guitar, not just in playability but also sound. This HB sounds phenomenal for the price, I will say that outright but it can't compete with a high end instrument acoustically. The amplified output with the right EQ and processing could make up some of the difference making it a decent choice for recording acoustic parts on a tighter budget. All that said, there comes a point of diminishing returns, IMO a $1000 acoustic will is barely discernible, if at all, from a comparable $10.000 acoustic (shape, size and tonal properties). At some point you end up paying for window dressing, hand crafted inlays, "premium wood selection" etc and little to none of this makes a difference to tone. Where you will see the largest differences is going from budget to mid range then mid range to high end and any combination thereof. Acoustics are tricky, even near identical looking guitars can sound very different because of differences internally (bracing, wood thickness etc). Then there is personal preference. My advice with acoustics is always to try a bunch in person before choosing, often times a cheaper guitar may sound better to you than an expensive one, it's all in the ear of the individual.
@filianablanxart8305
@filianablanxart8305 4 жыл бұрын
That's not exactly what Exalter was saying . Once you reach the level of properly set up frets and action , there will be little difference in the * playing * . But how it * sounds * will be influenced by the exact body dimensions , the type and thickness of the woods , and particularly the bracing .

@@mojoman2001 The difference is certainly subjective but bare in mind we are talking about people who play here not average listeners. I have yet to meet anyone who actually plays that can't tell the difference between a cheap (bad) and a decent acoustic, even relatively new players. The instrument needs to play well and feel good, cheap ones often don't and if you are a pro you want it to sound good with whatever your style is. If all you want is a campfire strummer then just pick up something cheap with a decent action and call it a day.

Even for the 320 Bucks Thomann sells it for its a nobrainer. Was kinda like the best Guitar Deal ive ever made. On the other hand i tried a few of they flagship electrics, when i start playing guitar like the SC550 or the Strat Clone ST-62 but even with changed pickups i never really loved them. Arrived today. TE30 “B” stock. $80. My hope was that it was a floor model that had been set up. It was.The guitar is far better than it had any business being for $80. I really thought I was going to need to ditch everything except the body. I had some Fender tuners I threw on, shielding tape and new strings. It’s ready to go. I’m going to put some Piledrivers in it, but those won’t be here for a couple weeks. Absolutely fantastic deal and once the new pups are in, absolutely on the level with MIM fender.

I have 3 Yamaha acoustics and they were all quite inexpensive and have aged wonderfully. However, if I am ever in the market for another acoustic I will seriously consider buying a Harley Benton since the 2 HB electrics that I own (JA60 & HB35) have both impressed me, both great values for someone like me who wants to try different guitars but can't pay 300€+ for them.

On the mention about their poor packaging: a few months before you uploaded your 212 review, I had bought the same cabinet. When it arrived, the slabs of wood that the speakers are mounted to were both busted out of their place. the were held in with some cheap staples or nails and when I asked for a return they wanted me to jump through a couple hoops like asking my delivery service to sign a notice for a claim against them for damaging the product and for me to sign over rights to pursue the claim on my behalf. after all that was said n done they decided to send me a second cabinet for free. They asked that I keep the original for 6 months in case there was a QC issue. I fixed the first cabinet and traded it to a friend and I asked Thomann to put some extra packaging in the second cabinet so it wouldn't get damaged. It was shipped in a second box filled with some good bubble wrap and such and the original box was still inside with the same packaging. it arrived in good condition with the extra packaging. My take is that they're not properly prepared to ship this stuff directly to customers and the packaging when being shipped is by default the same as what they receive put on the sales floor. when they take an order to ship an item they probably don't bother to add any extra packaging unless you ask. kind of strange if you ask me but next time I order from Thomann I'm going to ask for extra packaging again.

Repent! The Kingdom of God is at hand. Christ died for you and resuscitated from the dead, humiliating satan and defeating him. Accept the Messiah, Yeshua the Christ as your savior and get saved today! I reach out to you in His name, and He acts in the name of the Lord the Father. He can give you peace and love you’ll never receive in the world and free you from any chain and every evil, if you accept Him. I just received a guitar from Thomann and I had no issues with the shipping. I had several items in a box in a box so I’m sure that helped some but nothing even scratched. I agree that I don’t feel it would be so much with Thomann but the carriers. Some can tear up an anvil!

Phil, while I don't have an acoustic, I do have a Harley Benton SC-Custom (Les Paul style) in matte black with gold hardware that is killer, and costs $188.00. My grandson has a Harley Benton DC-580 (SG style) in cherry red that rocks, and costs only $112.00. Shipping from Germany is only $34.00 for up to three guitars in the same box. Hard to beat! Maybe we have been lucky, but no quality issues!

New acoustics can be a can of worms. So much can change on them in a relatively short time, and it takes at least 5-10yrs before the sound of the guitar will settle. Whilst at this price point you can't really lose, a good second hand aged instrument, such as a higher end Yammi or Epi, will always sound nicer. Thank you sir.

Think of it this way. We are now buying factory direct like a music store. In the past, a store would have paid $177 for this guitar and put in on the floor for $350. That margin covered their labor and overhead. How much do you think that $350-500 guitar you buy in the store cost them??? Same stuff.
@GrimYak
@GrimYak 5 жыл бұрын
Correct, so just imagine how much margins Fender and Gibson make.
@peteanddrake4242
@peteanddrake4242 5 жыл бұрын
@@GrimYak not great I imagine. remember, the distributor or music store needs 50% margin to cover their expenses. Fender and Gibson have a very slow sell through. They have to keep the factory running daily cranking out guitars that take the dealer months to sell. It is a VERY tough business. Often a manufacturer will have to buy back a stores inventory just to get them to stock the new stuff rolling off the line.

@@peteanddrake4242Interesting. So. essentially, music stores will exist solely on accessory and lesson sales along with few(er)high ticket guitar sales thanks to the OEM's foreign manufacturing partners now selling cheap copy guitars via mail order. Why is HB not sold on USA soil to begin with? I am just curious?

Just bought HB Custom Line CLD-10S, solid top. After seeing your video I really hope it will be as great as the one you tested. In other words, great guitar with good playability. I hope I will learn F and B and other barre chords at last which have given me headaches because my hands are small and I have only classical guitar. My son has HB bass guitar, and it is pretty good too.

Nice to finally see a review of this guitar. I have the older rosewood version. A German magazine review said the tone is mid biased - not dreadnought bass and some lack of treble. I have to agree. I tried different strings to try to increase the treble sparkle finally using some Martin 11s. I also fitted a bone nut and saddle then split the saddle into 3 sections in case the saddle was not seated correctly! These things made some difference but ultimately it does not have a sound that excites me. The guitar feels overdamped in some way - the start of each note does not seem to be crisp. I cannot fault the finish but I was not so happy about the positioning of a sticky pad to hold the pickup wires on the soundboard. Just another place to suck tone. Actually playing the guitar feels great and I am sure it would be a good choice for someone who like that slightly mellow tone. Recently I bought a Faith Naked Venus to get the zing I wanted.

these acoustics are surely not comparable to the really good expensive ones from martin or else, but the qualjty for a beginner is FAR beyond the ones i know from my youth. i got a gibson style jumbo from thomann with a fishman 3 years ago and its really ok. i then ordered a nylon one and yep very ok. the crafting processes really got very reliable due to tech progression. the only guitar style i dont have now is a resonator, not sure if the harley bentons are worth it, but i am pretty much spoiled since i heard a mule reso. :D

I have a Harley Benton (electric). It really is great if you know what you paid for it. It does not feel like a million-dollar guitar, but it certainly a playable, enjoyable guitar that you can get good sounds from without feeling like you have crap in your hands (I have had that type of cheap guitar before, I hated it) and from about one step distance it does look like any fancier guitar. Mine is a couple of years old and hasn't fallen apart or rusted away yet either. I did end up changing a couple of parts on mine, but like I said, mine is an older model and newer ones (electrics) have much better hardware and really can compete with squier and Epiphone (I have played a newer one and it really is better, so keep that in mind if you are planning to buy a used HB). Oh yeah, and mine has a super comfortable neck as well.
