I didn't know this movie was based on a book series, so needless to say I never read the books. Having only seen the movie I was touched by this story. I think it protrayed the emotional dilemma people in this situation might actually face. Legally and morally she belonged with her biological parents, but emotionally she needed the ones who had raised her and she grew up loving. In the end there was room in the girls heart for both sets of parents. Wonderful acting!

so did they, everyone was actually pretty charitable regarding her motives then you get her perspective in book 5 turns out as she put it "it was even more fun than stealing a car" then she needed somewhere to "dump the kid" because she hated being tied down - actually getting the full kidnap story was so gripping and terrifying - especially the fact that Hannah was an inexperienced driver, driving from new jersey to Connecticut with a 3 year old in the front seat and she didn't even put her seat belt on even though Jenny/Janie asked her to and for chunks of the journey she forgot she had anyone else in the car

Such a good movie, it just shows that a mother can love her enough to let her go after 13yrs of searching for her, she showed that she was the true mother by allowing her child happiness even though it broke her heart, and had to lose her all over again, Love this movie :-) x

she gave her back because she knew that because Jenny was a teenager - had lifelong friends that she'd had since she was THREE that the only thing Jenny would do was continue to resent them for ripping her from the only family she'd ever known. You cannot force someone to love you -- and if you try they will always find a way to build a wall to keep you out - the harder you try the more resistant they will become ESPECIALLY a teen

A couple of years ago I found out that my dad wasn't my biological father, but this never changed anything between us, I even love him more than ever. And even if I have a great relationship with my biological father now, my daddy will always be the one who raised me, loved me for all these years, and helped me when I was in trouble.

In a case such as this, where the stolen child was not taken for the purpose of harm to him/her, it is a good lesson for birth parents to try to think of the person who has taken care of the child, whether it is the grandparents of the thief or the child stealer herself. The child still loves the one who brought him/her up and needs some access to her. Maybe after the person has served her sentence, visitation could be set up for her and the child, if the woman is deemed safe to be around and truly is repentant for her crime and her mental illness is being managed.

That and he spent his entire life seeing what it did to his parents and had to deal with his parents always having to know what he was doing all the time, imagining everything that could have happened to his sister and living in a pretty small house that the family had long outgrown (it was smaller in the books) with 3 siblings, but couldn't move in case Jenny somehow remembered their address or number after all these years. Then she was found and he saw his parents joy, followed by their hurt by the fact that she wasn't ready to call them Mom and Dad and kept talking about her parents (the other ones) and not really giving them a chance - honestly I think his reaction was pretty realistic, even if it looks really sucky when following Janies perspective. Book 2 started with the Springs (their last name in the books) and kind of showed what life had been like for them.

She's glad 'cause she gave them & herself closure. She found the truth & the Sands were given peace of mind; especially the brother & mother who felt responsible. Saying 'I love you' was done out of respect & to show Mrs. Sands acceptance. Janie doesn't want to leave her feeling rejected or at fault as she did nothing wrong, but fell victim to tragedy. She lost her daughter (worrying everyday & not even moving in fear Jenny would return) only to find her and be told she was happy the whole time.

NO CHILD wants to be split between homes that way -- I am thinking and hoping that she will voluntarily take her friends over on weekends - that they can get together as two families on holidays -- it only makes sense and I suspect that Janie being the kind of person she is made to appear in this movie would do just that -- but taking her back was the only hope her natural family had of ever having a relationship with her - the ONLY hope

And during that time frame the director want to be able to tell the story in a way that will be understandable and won't confuse people. So yeah, the book had a lot more detail and the movie was way different. But that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. There are plenty of movies that have done the same, for example: Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and not only those but TV shows based on books (pretty little liars, the lying games) are totally different from the actual book. Just enjoy the movie.

5:58, Kidnapping is the most prevalent form of theft in our nation's states. Most children who are kidnapped are victimized at age 3. Adults can reduce the incidents of kidnapping among children by educating them about the circumstances in which kidnappings occur and taking action when these incidents are reported.

I love all the books in the series; particularly "The Voice on the Radio": that had me on the edge of my seat, especially with the chapter finale of "My name...is Hannah". But as a movie (even a TV movie which are always notoriously bad, this one being a case in point) "The Voice on the Radio" would suck! In summary, I would say that some things are just better left in the medium they were originally intended for, in this case, a book, and the books are great

This movie doesn't make sense to me Janie/Jennie was 16 and the Sand (even though they were the biological parents) would most likely come across as the villians in her eyes for ripping her away from the only home she can remember. Also because she was 16 in two years she could of chosen the family that she wished to be associated with, and if she percieved the Sands as the villians in this story she might have broken ties and gone back to the parents that raised her. This whole story was sad but the issue of custody could have been handled better on both sides of the table

NOt sure she could at 16. But I am sure she saw her biological parents and sister and brother even though she went back home.

I'm confused about her luggage. Wasn't it in the car? But her mom just drove off and left her with the backpack, they didn't unload any luggage.

The ending was always so sad! That poor biological daughter she wanted her back so badly just to have to end up returning her. I understand the situation but that poor mother if this was real life I would hope Janie/Jennie would have continued some kind of relationship with her biological family.

I don't understand why Janie tells Mrs. Sands that she's glad she saw herself on the milk carton when it's obvious she was never happy about it. And saying "I love you Mom" as she's leaving? That was so wrong. Just my opinion.

Sheesh, they are within driving distance, why can't she see her bio family on a regular basis? For myself, I would not have disrupted a teenager's life like that. Even a younger child would be traumatized if two familys fight over custody.

She was raised as an only child she didn't know how to be a sister. She stopped being there daughter when she was taken. They should have shared custody and visitation. That would have been a good solution. Let both sets of parents love her.
