In 2015 rented an apartment for 10 days on Rue Mouffetard ... watching this video brought back so many fond memories ... visiting restaurants and shops, recalling the sights, sounds, smells of the food displays, listening to the music and watching the dancers in the courtyard in front of the Saint Medard Church. The Roman amphitheater, les Arenes de Lutece is just off the rue Monge. It's one of my favorite places in the 5th Arrondissement.

Thank you for the charming and informative stroll. The grand Boulevards and the Haussmannian architecture are splendid, but it is great that parts of Paris still contain the ambience of earlier times. I particularly love this area also as did Hemingway. I’ve just discovered your channel and will be watching more of your videos.

I’ve stayed by the Arènes, and wish I had known about the short cut at the beginning! I love Maison de Verlaine, but don’t think Hemingway lived there, rather he had his writing studio there when he lived in Rue Cardinal Lemoine.

Mouffetard seems to have been derived from the name of an animal, the mouffette, the skunk.
