Yes, a PT-6 in Beta is a nice sound! In A&P school we each got our own PT-6, bugged by an instructor or senior class member. The goal of the class (turbine powerplant diagnosis & repair) was that you get one semester to diagnose your PT-6, fix it, and run it to acceptable, factory settings & limits. If you did so it was an automatic "A."

Been using this plane in flight sim 2020, love it, flying missions and cargo in the sky park, it seems to be the one plane that covers most mission types, can takeoff and land almost any airfield or just a big field, great range and it looks awesome. Great video, this area is next on my flight list in the sim, really love the back country type of flying.

Excellent video! Beautiful country and part of the world. We did a self fly safari back in March and it sure brings back memories. @@DeonMitton the self fly was excellent. We started in South Africa and visited Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Botswana over the course of three weeks. Unfortunately our time in Botswana was cut short due to the impending South African border shut down due to Covid and we had to return a few days early. Planning to go back back and do it and more all over again as well as hit Namibia as well once things open up again. Flew C182's which were well suited to the trip. This was the first company I worked for after flight school in 2011. Stayed there 3 whole years on the Cessna 172, 206, Airvan GA8 and my last couple of months there on the Cessna Caravan. It is fun place to fly but was exhausting at times. You're your own potter/baggage handler, at the airport when it's dark in the morning, leave when it's dark in the evening. Fun times! Ha ha.

Lovely video! I love this area, have been there a few times. At what time of year did you go? I presume that you know this, but the wet season of the Okavango is 4-6 months out of step with the rainy season, as the water mostly comes from the Angolan highlands rather than from direct precipitation. How long does it take to re-charge the battery, and how many times can you start from a battery?
@DeonMitton4 жыл бұрын
I Peter - yes - about the rainy season, and the Delta's season. Unfortunately, for this visit, I didn't have much control over the timing ... In the beginning of the video, I state the time - November 2019.

And that's what flying is about. No ILS, PAPIs, A/P, A/T and all that long-haul "waiting" at the cruise altitude.

although... your plane actually has the autopilot panel :P Still, not the same as with the big jets where you spend hours on the cruising level
@DeonMitton3 жыл бұрын
@@migupl Yes - VFR backcountry flying is a great way to spend time in the air, piloting, and brings diversity everyday. It's something not many pilots consider, because it's not as well publicized as commercial jet travel.

@@DeonMitton Definitely. For some pilots it's a dream come true, though. Unfortunately, there's not that much need for bush pilots as there is for commercial jet travel. I'd love to do bush piloting!

Why are floatplanes outlawed in Southern Africa?
@DeonMitton4 жыл бұрын
Watch the Intro video - I give the reason there. It is believed they cause the spread of invasive species, by cross contamination of bodies of water.
@avestuart3 жыл бұрын
I'm in the US and working on my commercial certificate, do you know if MackAir takes American pilots and their requirements for the Caravan? I looked on their website and nothing there for pilot requirements. I was in South Africa in October 2019 and really want to go back. I'd love to fly back-country, cargo or anti-poaching patrols in Africa. I just want to do something different with flying, not the standard stuff.
@DeonMitton3 жыл бұрын
