Born and raised in DR Congo, I cannot see this project happening, mostly due to corruption, and lack of suitable infrastructure to support the construction phases alone. I also feel DR Congo is one place where the ecosystem is kept in tact, thankfully due to lack of year-round roads that would provide better access to lumber and other land-clearing resources. We need more untouched forests to absorb our carbon pollution.

Lol there is simply no way the DRC builds this. I have nothing against the project, but they don't have the funds, infrastructure, nor educated labor to complete it. The DRC is also LITERALLY one of the worst countries in the world when looking at corruption, human rights, and development. A project like this would be Herculean for China or America, so I simply don't see the possibility for completion by the Congo. The better solution would be to build and refurbish smaller dams along the river. No, it wouldn't be as efficient, but it would be doable. Africa doesn't need mega projects, they need reliable electricity and security.

You don't need foreign forces to stop this. African corruption can kill it on its own. Also, remember we are talking about the DRC. One of the most corrupt countries on earth.

If the project engineers and environmentalists can work on diverting less than 10 percent of the main flow for this new project and not causing major disruptions to wildlife then I’ll support it. I don’t particularly like the first wall of diversion to flood the Burundi Valley. Use diversion techniques similar to the Inga 1 & 2. Or renovate them. All in all your graphics and audio and information made it a great presentation 🎉.

I’ve seen the Inga rapids. You’d have to be insane to try to kayak down it. The water is as fast and foreboding as the water leading up to the Niagara Falls (and likely every massive waterfall). If you just fell into the water there’s a high probability you’d die even if you are a really good swimmer.

Honestly, I dislike “greater good” arguments, but in this case, the potential for that kind of power generation to transform Africa makes it worth it. The earth is massive, and you really can’t balance the welfare of relatively small geographic area against the well-being of billions of Africans. The idea of displacing 30,000 people is distasteful, and I can’t speak to the areas cultural significance, but if their lives could be measurably improved by providing the, a proper townsite and stank infrastructure, then long term it’s potentially worth it. It’s impossible to do anything now a days without stepping on someone’s toes, but bringing Africa out of broad poverty should make sacrifices like this a fair calculation. Though the benefits may only be felt a few generations down the line. Tricky for sure.

A "dam" isn't going to bring Africa out of poverty and despair. You can't change thousands of years of culture by building a dam.

As a Pakistani 🇵🇰, I'd loke to add my good wishes for the people of DRC to achieve it. It would rather be better to make a company as a private corporation to own it. The US banks might be interested in loaning out to the US billionaires

The Grand Inca Dam is an extremely bad idea. If the Inga River is that deep than it’s definitely a deadly stupid idea to try and block the main river.

The great Inga dam can provide electricity to many populations in Africa, though it will cause great damage to the ecological system, therefore, a better way to balance these aspects of life should be found

This will definitely happen! Why are people being negative Yes it’s 100 years since the taught and plan. Even Ethiopia have been wanting to built the GERD… Egypt, Sudan Backed by IMF, World Bank and the West Nations had been an obstacle! The people financed it and built it…. There were many obstacles on the way. ❤❤❤
