I've heard that they hand pick the elephants to hunt. They are usually rogue bulls or orphaned bulls that have left the herd. They are very aggressive and will attack people and indiscriminately kill other animals. I don't know if that's all of them but some. Zebras?? Maybe they taste good

The hunting of the elephants and lions usually happens when the numbers of them are to great for the land they are because elephants cause a lot of damage and have to be taken off and rather than doing it themselves they get international hunters that pay a lot of money which can be used in the protection of the rest of them from poaching so in the end its conservation which a lot of people dont understand

I'm a hunter myself and I love it. Watching this video annoyed me. I would never shoot an elephant, giraffe or a zebra. If I feel threatened by an animal that's a different story. Otherwise, I will only shoot animals that I plan on eating. I won't trophy hunt.

Nothing goes to waste in Africa. Meat protein is a vital commodity in Africa. Hunter, guides and trackers eat some small portion of meat around the camp fires. The remainder is turned over to the local chef-tons or numerous orphanages. The hunters take the trophies . So it is a win/ win situation. Americans, Europeans have never been truly hungry, so they do not understand.

Yet another video highlighting everything that is wrong with ethics of some supposed Professional Hunters and Outfitters in South Africa. Shooting over water from a blind with a rifle, shooting from vehicles etc. etc. Quantity over quality, when PHASA pulled the ethics out of their mission statement to appease the Captive Bred Lion hunting fraternity they took away all credibility of their members and themselves as an organisation!!! Looking at this footage it is all Limpopo, North West and Free State...all renowned areas where unethical hunting practises are common place and not frowned upon, where the money is more important than the journey!! These wankers do nothing but destroy the reputation of true Professional Hunters and Outfitters!!! When stuff like this gets posted on social media the damage is far reaching for the worldwide hunting fraternity and people and businesses who think this is acceptable and post this crap should have their licenses revoked...

I have no problem with men hunting for food or to control invasive species. Hunting for sport, to kill an animal for the thrill of killing is a pretty fucking low thing to do in my opinion. Elephants are very smart.. I’m not animal loving hippie but I hate to see elephants being killed.. most people don’t realize tho, these super expensive hints in these very poor areas of the world. The funds generated off legal hunting provides most of the funding to stop illegal poachers. Places like Zimbabwe don’t have money to protect wildlife, but if they can sell/harvest 5 animals for 500k, they can use that money to stop poachers from decimating the population... hard truth to swallow but it’s true nonetheless

Came here for some good shooting. Must have rather read video heading better, impact shots, not kill shots. Some very bad shooting here. I understand everyone has a bad shot and all hunters have "kwessed" something. But, the PH should not allow shooting antelope walking away or having the client shoot through thick shrubs. There were more bad shots here than good shots. High shots, leg shots, rear shots, you name it. Just raining the animal with lead will also kill it. Despicable video and does not help hunting as a sport.

If people who put out video as this one, need to show the hunters giving the meat to the village, or even field dressing the animal, and harvest the meat. The conservation side of hunting is complex but boils down to, the indigenous people are encouraged not to hunt with poison or antiquated weapons in exchange for a financial contribution to their people from the hunting licence fee and the meat from the animals shot. This discourages poaching and the killing of females or young animals whilst the hunters take the oldest, post breeding age animals. This is a very abridged summation but there is a lot more information out there of the conservation and fiscal benefits to The dark Continent from hunting. I'm sure from the tone of your question that you are of an open mind, Please, please, please look to sources from both sides and not just P.E.T.A etc before you form a decision. Then there would be no money from the hunt, groceries, guides, licenses,or lodging. It would hurt the economy. You have to pass a test to get a license. The illiteracy rate is extremely high in some places. You may only own 4 firearms. The cost of a weapon that is capable of making a clean kill is EXTREMELY high. The people can’t afford the weapons, or the ammo. Then they have to buy a license. Some of these licenses cost anywhere from $60,000 USD and up. Now remember there are poor people. If they can’t afford the price of a box of ammo or the gun itself, how do you think they can afford an $80k license to “Harvest it themselves?

If they can get a tractor then they can sure as hell get a gun that can put an impala down. They have the means to do this. The adult literacy rate in South Africa is 95% and in Zimbabwe it is 88%. The price you mentioned for the permits is also misleading. Those high prices are for animals such as Rhinos and Elephants and some Lions, the locals wont be hunting these animals for meat. The price for a giraffe is $3,800 and it drops drastically from there for animals that Africans have historically hunted for meat. And that price is for tourists who will be hunting with a professional hunter in a private farm with all the ammenities included. Free range hunting is available to locals and the cost would be near zero at that point. This whole narrative that Africans need westerners to hunt for them is a load of BS.

@@tommy_egan impala aren’t anywhere close to big game animals. A friend of mine went on a safari trip a few years ago, and yes those prices were accurate when he went. He wanted me to go, but I drew an elk tag in Wyoming and couldn’t do both trips. For the right price you can even hunt poachers! Priced a H&H double .416 Rigby lately, or a box of ammo? The average salary in SA is around $17k in USD per year. That’s before taxes. And check out the cheap .416’s on gunbroker. Around $10k starting price. Throw in a box of ammo and your definitely going to be hunting for dinner. Because after taxes you would be lucky to have twenty bucks left over!

This is not out of reach, especially for a community that pools resources as African communities have done for millenia. Africans have tractors, farm equipment and pickups, getting a few large calibre rifles some scopes and ammo is trivial. They know the animals and how to track them. They can harvest the animals themselves.

You just solved the world’s problems! Ever notice what the guides and hunters use to take down dangerous game. Different areas have different regs for different game. Mainly the muzzle energy, measured in joules instead of foot pounds. And in some places it’s paired with bore diameter, usually in MM. A .375 H&H is in general considered the minimum for big game, but not the recommended caliber.
