His Majesty Emperor Haileselasi was the first Black to ride to the Buckingham palace with the queen chariot and received state and military welcome. The queen hereself sent him her special car to Airport. In fact He is the only non royal granted Order of Gartner. He is the only Black ever British Field Marshal to this day. When the queen visted Ethiopia, she bowed for him in His palace breaking the "protocol". He was indeed a very influencial person. And this is the story of Africans. Current President of Ethiopia is of course expected to get a level of respect given the fact that she knows all this fact. In my opinion sometimes dignity is something you earn. If you put youself inferior, so do other act superior over you. Perhaps the struggle of an Ethiopian people is that the pride we grow up with and perception of ourselves and our socio economic and political reality as well as today's world image towards our country is usually creating unease in our interaction with whites, Arabs, Asians and even some times with other black people.

Well I agree it was not only African leaders but all the other leaders also were bussed except the US and the Chinese . However I feel it's better if African Presidents did not attend if their request was not granted they could have sent their representative like vice presidents or foreign ministers .. New Zealand's case is different as new Zealand is still a realm of the British monarch so new Zealand's prime minister had to attend the funeral anyway as elizabeth was their queen as well
