I am a white American who lived in villages in Africa for 4 years. I lived in a house like this one for a year. When Americans see this, they generally think of poverty and dirtiness. But my experience was that these houses are clean and cool in hot weather, much cooler than "modern" cement block houses with tin roofs. I loved my house and my village. Life was so simple and pure. People do not have a lot, but you learn when living like this that you don't need as much as you think you do.

I can tell you that almost every village house in South Africa has many of those things .We haven't lost touch with our traditional ways of doing things,even though there are some dynamic improvements here and there. This just shows that we are one Bantu/African people .We ( in SA) are very proud of our cultures and traditional ways of doing things and infuse it with modern civilization,even that type of cooking inside meat+ blood is done.We call it UBUBENDE in Zulu culture

6:27 "Do you have grass thatched houses?" I live in Northern Ireland. Up until 100 - 150 years ago, houses with thatched roofs would be common here. Quite a number of old houses from that time are still standing and people still live in them. Some of them have had their roof replaced with a tile roof, but others still have thatched roofs. There are still a few people left in this country who know how to thatch a roof. I've seen it being done. Pretty much all new built houses though, are built with tile roofs. I speak for the way it is in Northern Ireland, but I think throughout all of Ireland and all of Britain it would be mostly this way - some older houses are thatch roofed, but new ones are tiled.
@Ann65.

There were some lovely little thatched houses in Holy Cross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Near the old Abbey. I stayed there many years ago for months. Could have bought one of those little properties - if I had the money. There were twenty or so houses. Not sure whether its true, but I heard that they had been sold as job lot to some Company. Such a pity, if true.

Oh it is lovely to see that you are here doing a video, showcasing North Uganda in Acholi. There has been very little such videos about this beautiful people of Acholi.. Thank you so much for this great work. It is soo beautiful to see the countryside. As a Ugandan from Mbale, I love culture and the diversity we have in Uganda. Each people and their traditions and cultures are so unique, special and beautiful . I have been to Gulu and it is a beautiful place and the people are welcoming and lovely. Thank you for sharing. God bless Uganda and its people.

Thank-you so much! I feel very privileged that you invited us on this tour. I am in Canada, and now I feel I have too much stuff... but a lot of it is because of winter. I have always wanted a grindstone, and am fascinated by the one you showed us! How is it made? With what materials? Is it difficult to make? I will keep watching your videos, because I am sure you must show it used somewhere... thank-you again for the intimate tour of your paradisiacal land.

Thank you for showing us. I have questions: 1) Do you cook with charcoal? 2) How do you wash clothes? 3) How many languages do you speak? Swahili? Luganda? French? What else? And obviously English.

They cook with firewood, they get water from like a pond and wash clothes in a tub/basin. She speaks Acholi, English and I am going to guess luganda too.
