"Addicted To Love" was a huge hit for Robert Palmer back in the eighties. It was a signature sound of the later decade. The sister-model-backing band eye-candy helped to make the video pop on MTV. It caught my attention when Ciccone Youth, a Sonic Youth side project, released a cover of the song in 1989. Robert Palmer enjoyed a couple of hits in the early eighties too, "Get It On (Bang a Gong)" and "Some Like It Hot", which he sang for The Power Station, a side band he formed with two members of Duran Duran. I was a kid when Robert Palmer took "Every Kinda People" to the top twenty hit in the US back in 1978. That song is super smooth. Caribbean steel pan drums with a subtle guitar riff and a really phat bass line, plus a sax and trumpet solo to boot! Great song. He took the uptempo rocker "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)" to the top twenty the following year. I was bummed when he died almost twenty years ago. For some deep tracks from him, check out the soulful "Fine Time" and the funky "Sneakin Sally Through The Alley" from the seventies.

Fortunately I had the good luck to see Robert Palmer in concert, and I can report he was as good or even better than his recordings. "Addicted To Love" was one of his biggest hits, but he had quite a few more over his all to brief career, the trilogy of "Hey Julia/Sailing Shoes/Sneaking Sally Through The Alley" is a TON O' FUN, as well as "Some Like It Hot" which he did with The Power Station, a sort of All Star Band with guys from Duran Duran and Phil Collins band.

It was originally going to be called Addicted to love but his record label wouldn't release it so he changed the title. Replace 'kiss' with 'fix' and it'll make sense. Still an outstanding track though!
