The singer is a master of several martial arts. What nobody notices in this video is the colour. It's very vibrant. ppl asked the singer if they found some old film to use. (This was before computers) the singer said that when he went in to edit the video, he had a hangover, so he was wearing sunglasses. (He forgot) so, he told the guy, "more red. More yellow."

I heard DLR explain the lyrics once, he was watching the news and some guy was going to jump off of a building to his death, the news was there and everything,, and Roth came up with the chorus line from that moment: "might as well jump"

Heh, this song reminds me of high school. Definitely a signature song of the 1980's. We used to blast this from our car stereos when I was in high school. We pretty much grew up on Van Halen. The keys in "Jump" added a different sound to their music but the energy was always there. When you're ready for more from Van Halen check out some of these classics: "Dance the Night Away", "Unchained", "You Really Got Me", "So This Is Love", "Ice Cream Man", "Panama", "Atomic Punk", "Mean Street", "Running With The Devil", "Everybody Wants Some!!", "Jamie's Cryin'", and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" along with many others.

Watched the 'Premiere' of this video on MTV midnight Jan 1st, 1984, then saw them in concert later that year with great seats close to stage. Basically this video for 2 hours, still rank it as one of the best concerts I have ever been to.

My older sis saw that, too, she was a Roth superfan. We're both still fans (ages 55/45). I got into them by listening to her LPs and cassettes. Her bedroom was wall to wall VH pics from Creem mag, etc. She had an assless chaps poster of Dave's that she loved, haha. She and my other older sister went to the 83 US Fest because we lived in San Bernardino, CA at the time. Shame they were the end act so Dave had all day to get blitzed. The lads were lucky not to have died from acute booze intoxication like Bonham and Bon Scott.

San Diego in the Navy, missed US Fest due to a deployment, wish I could of went. Still between SD and LA saw a lot of awesome shows back then. Still have my T-shirt from the VH concert, was a great time.

@@BugahaJim Don't worry, I ENVY you merely as a kid too young to go to anything Dave era. I do remember the split in 85 when I was 9, I made a tape of a radio station (probably KROQ) that played all their songs alphabetically the day of the announcement. It sucked. And I remember being "meh" about the 1st song Hagar chose to release from 5150. Thankfully, FUCK had a couple of likeable big hits on it from that era, but I've never given the Hagar years the credit that those fans want the Roth fans to give them. I was in HS from 90-94, the peak of grunge, which I like (still a late Gen X slacker). Here's an fun tidbit for you. My class of 94 also had 2 other kids besides me were VH hold-ons from childhood. I mean kids who were, like me, fully fluent in VH from heavy listening as the demented little shits that we were. Not casual fans. These were girls to boot. There's 3 answers of "Van Halen" under "Likes/Loves" in our Senior yearbook and, from what I recalled, no references to Nirvana or Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc. I looked for any years ago. I always felt that was very coincidental for that era.
@BugahaJim2 жыл бұрын
@@nonplayerzealot4 VH first album was my high school's theme. The Hager years were just a strange alternative universe. Felt the music scene lacking late '80's, grunge era brought the life back, lots of good stuff. Late '70's to 2K was a good time music wise to grow up in.

Africa Reacts, this was the band's single #1 pop hit in the US. If I recall right, it took a song from Jackson's "Thriller" album to finally put it to #2. That was a great achievement for a band like VH. Tho this is a very poppy song from them (tho a brilliant one), they were a heavy rock band before that. #1 hits to bands like VH were rare and still are. Eddie played the guitar solo on Michael Jackson's song "Beat It" from the "Thriller" album, btw. That was a giant collab in music, those two. Eddie was a superstar in his own right. He did it for free, too.
